Getting matched up against other Ketchup teams a fair bit. Though I'm starting to think while Ketchup has quantity, Mayo has quality.

So apparently ketchup is the condiment of the unruly masses but the disciplined players of skill all picked mayo I've never seen votes vs wins so lopsided

The Heavy Splatling kinda sucks for Turf War but I'm having a lot of fun with it in ranked. Mini Splatling can go to hell, go big or go home.

There's something to be said for the short duration of matches and the fluid ranking system to make losses less rage-inducing. Chances are you'll forget all about them by the time the next match starts.

Owers posted:I embarrassingly found that out a while ago. He basically says something like "Zero?! Maybe I should make you reread the training manual." He's not as livid as you'd expect. I don't think these kind of games usually have characters get actively angry even at your miserable failure. Probably because they don't need to encourage the players to take it out on each other, the Switch, nearby pets and loved ones, etc.

I do like that the new specials are, as above, built around disrupting gameplay rather than 'splat everything here' buttons. (Splashdown and Bomb Rush aside, more or less, and they have limits) The Stingray is best used with good positioning and from behind a wall.

The Power Armour set is totally made to go with the Splatling, the winning animation has the Inkling resting their hand a few inches above its barrels unless you're wearing it.

Oh hey, it's a cleaning fluid spray bottle with... one of those attachment thingies I'm sure there's a name for. I do like how many of the weapons appear to be made of household items. The Heavy Splatling uses a water cooler tank.

Anyone got any basic tips for gear abilities? I know jack so I'm mostly just hoping for variety so I don't have to worry about diminishing returns. Though faster ink recharge/less primary ink consumption is always good for Turf War.

So it seems like Inklings tend to be overgrown children/stereotypes of young people who can barely be arsed paying attention to anything except what's fresh and trendy, and happen to have a favourite hobby of gladiatorial combat especially to settle petty arguments, while Octarians are mad scientists who come up with all kinds of fancy technology but can't think of any better way to power it than to steal glowfish and plug them into over-capacity power boards.

Pearl's design kinda suggests she's either slightly younger than the player character or a runt.

Kinda disappointing that they completely changed Pearl and Marina's personalities in the translation; I thought we'd gotten past this, it's not the 90s anymore, and we've got plenty of examples of how badly that can backfire in the long run. (see Ace Attorney) It's not quite 'calling rice balls donuts' level, but it's going to make a lot of difficult work for the translators in the long run given the Japanese characterisations may develop in obviously different ways than they're prepared to work with.

Owers posted:You gotta give it to the localisation team for Phoenix Wright, they're pretty drat persistent. Fair, but that's kinda my point. If you're gonna take liberties with the localisation you'd better drat be a good writer on your own merits, because we've seen the worst of what can happen.

Internet Kraken posted:I'm pretty sure the dualie roll doesn't have any iframes. I've never seen someone dodge through an attack that would of splatted them. It doesn't, it just makes you move fast and harder to hit than usual. It's best used for the brief fire concentration rather than trying to escape attacks.

Neddy Seagoon posted:They hand out pieces once you reach certain levels in multiplayer. I think you need to be level 13 or so to get the full armor set. That figures, I thought you had to beat singleplayer mode first. (you might still need to do that to use the Callie and Marie amiibos) Saving loadouts isn't too bad considering you can then switch to a loadout (which includes changing tentacle-do and pants) at nearly any point in the lobby or menu just by waving the Amiibo over the controller/right joycon. Beats fiddling with the menus anyway.

Chargers have their uses, and become hilarious at low tide, but are definitely a pain in the rear end for everyone in Salmon Run. At least you can take out Steelheads relatively easily.

Umbrella's a little weird because you have to keep tapping the button for rapid-fire, otherwise you'll activate the shield. The sub-weapons (sprinkler and rain bomb thingy) are clearly intended to be thematic rather than necessarily complementary. Still getting the hang of how to actually use the shield effect, aside from the obvious use case of protecting teammates as they jump in. Rather hoping there's some umbrella reskins (besides the Hero Brella), because there's lots of potential for nice designs.

I think pretty much anything that involves removing/changing an ability from gear has you keep the chunks.

With the Sting Ray buff, it looks like there's even more viability for my Splatling Power Armor setup. (Bomb Def, Quick Respawn and Ink Saver Main for quick reference. I needa figure out how to get screenshots offa this thing) Wondering what I should go for with additional effects? I usually use this set for Ranked, Tower Control especially it seems suited for, so thinking of doubling down on Bomb Defense. (Also fits the theme)

Had one match where I had the Goo Tuber, and the others had the Dynamo Roller and Splatterscope. The poor bugger with the Splatling Gun couldn't save us. At least I'm back to Profreshional again.

Splattershot is one of the first weapons you get, easy to use and an all-rounder, not surprising it's popular. Generalisation is a specialisation of all of its own, and means you're never caught trying to cover your weaknesses, or at least not often.

It's like how you use 'fish' to refer to multiple of the same fish, and 'fishes' to refer to a group including different kinds of fish, in an oddly relevant comparison.

It is mentioned that the Inklings and Octolings fought brutal turf wars over viable land, and the Octolings had to move to their underground habitats when they lost.

Funny that you had people way back defending Treehouse's localisation changes and even now they've rolled most of them back to be more in line with the JP versions.

They said movies AND TV, and I've been watching a ton of Frasier lately, so the choice is obvious. I wish I could draw. And come up with a good Frasier joke.

DK64 would probably be a much better game if they just cut it down. I felt Banjo-Tooie was better than the first, maybe in part because DK64 was where they got all the mistakes out of their system. Weirdly enough, I feel like Odyssey is the Mario take on the N64-style collectathon that actually works great.
