The worry with Qe8 is if they counter Re7, making any taking of their pieces a death sentence for our queen. It does give us the time to then play Qa4 and save our knight, but that feels like ceding the middle of the board to our opponents. Voting Nb5, although I'm not too sure where to go from there.

Also, this mucks up the new voting gubbins: before my vote we had enough votes to proceed, and now I feel like I'm holding things up by voting this way.

Phoneposting, but isn't this checkmate? Qc8+ and then Bxc5 either checkmates or sends the king down the a column, to suffer the most humiliating fate: checkmate by pawn.

Don't feel too bad about this. If there are any holes in the plan, it would certainly be a good move to let us know.

Here's a diagram of what happens if they Re7 and we Qc8:

Only 2 legal moves the King can make there. Kxa7 or Kb6.

Kxa7 leads to a Checkmate for us once we go Bxc5, so they probably won't be doing that move.

If they go Kb6, this would be the move they are eventually forced to make once we go Bxc5.

So yeah, Re7 isn't a death sentence for our Queen.

I'm sold on Qe8 mostly because I think at this stage losing that rook hurts them more than losing our knight.

also for as long as our queen is on 8 that bishop is pinned. If they move either of the two back pieces from our queen in 8 they will lose one and probably both.

Like, look at the board from here with Black to move. The ideal situation for us is the following.

ka6
Qc8+ Ka7
bxc5+, bxc5
Qxh8.

At that point they have a bishop and 3 pawn, with our queen basically able to capture those pawns at will. At that point they may well just forfiet. They won't even easily be able to capture a pawn from that postion.

And frankly, most of the paths you run with this work as similar variations. In any case, with our queen at 8 we essentially paralyze the remaining enemy forces.

Why do I get the feeling we're missing something here? Did we catch the idea that they may move their pawn instead of their rook? Are there any other moves that they can make that could potentially continue the procrastination? They might be stumbling onto something that could turn the tables on us, we have to be decisive, but not hasty.

Rxd1 seems like the best idea to me.

Alright, so I think the time is right to start setting up that Checkmate. So how should we be going about this? Bishop to c5 would definitely set a check, but do we want to do that yet? That will force their King to move, and our Queen is still in play.

Maybe they are giving up in the most passive aggressive way possible?

Anyway, chekmate in 3 moves.

22. Rd7+, doesn't matter where their King goes.
23. Qb8, again, doesn't matter what Black does. May or may not be a check. We don't care.
24. Qb5+. Checkmate.
