I think twisted transistor was probably the last song of theirs I was ok with. Far cry from the glory days though.

I thought twisted transistor was absolutely awful, but then I was never that into Korn. Their first few albums had some tracks I liked but that was it.

I remembered the lyrics being unusually bad so I looked them up and they are seriously awful even for nu metal.

"Anesthetize this bitch, I'm not the time
Just let me be
Between you and them things

Music do
And then it its reaching
Inside you forever preaching
gently caress you too
Your screams will whisper
Hang on you twisted transistor"

It doesn't even parse properly.

Yeah the lyrics are horrible for sure.

It's a piece of JUNK!

They never printed their lyrics, so most of what's on lyric sites is pure guesswork. I'm pretty sure those are wrong. I don't suppose the real lyrics are much better though.

(For example though, "I'm not the time" in the above lyrics is actually just the word "anesthetize" repeated again)

Never cared for Coal Chamber, but the vocalist's current band (since the early 00s) DevilDriver is pretty good.

Calling all girls of the opposite sex

Korn are Metallica these days: albums suck, but the live show is incredible. They clearly care about being good performers but, as much as I like the new album and the dubstep album, Korn haven't released a truly interesting LP since See You On The Other Side. I've seen people blame the drummer for some reason but he, unlike David, doesn't seem like a gigantic dickhead. I figure Jonathan Davis just doesn't have anger any more but, unlike Moreno, Reznor et al, can't find that new place to derive inspiration from.

Slipknot are definitely still a thing, although the weirdness of Joey Jordison being fired still lingers, but Corey seems to be slowly transitioning into Henry Rollins: books, radio shows, podcasts, even an appearance on UK comedy panel show QI. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets his own hosting gig on TV at some stage. Plus, his musical efforts are tied into Stone Sour right now.

Speaking of Joey, anyone remember Murderdolls? I found out last month that I once attended one of their shows (zero memory of this!) but there was a huge deal made about them when they released a cover of White Wedding, and then it just died off. And their first album was just reworked versions of Frankenstein Drag Queens songs... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7d44j9xXKo

Metallica's live shows these days are not incredible, at least from videos I've seen. James was never a "good" singer but what he had used to work, now it doesn't. and Lars has gotten worse. they sound like they don't rehearse.

they've been streaming their pre-show warmups lately and sometimes they're basically a jukebox and other times they sound like a bunch of nervous kids doing metallica covers at their 8th grade talent show

e: there was a pretty funny one where eddie money randomly wanders in the room and tells old man stories

Slipknots live show is definitely falling off. They're getting older now, so they don't bring the same energy to the stage, and for the most part their older songs are the only ones that are truly great live. There are some exceptions though.

Korn is getting boring as well, although they toured this summer with Robert Trujillo's 13 year old son as a fill in at bass, and I guess those shows were all really good.

Rammstein is the only major live band from the time period that's on the upswing. Tickets are expensive, but that is a show you don't want to miss. They're working on a new album now too, which will be their first in like 5 years. Unlike these bands that are falling off, Rammsteins last album was one of their best, and the new one from what we've seen of it is promising.

Re: Joey Jordison, he's in a new project that I think just released their debut album. It's called VIMIC. I like it.

I haven't seen them post-Glastonbury 2014 so if they've dropped off then that's a huge drop because that show was incredible and every show I've been to of theirs has gotten better and better every time. Some of the most solid, organised, rehearsed, polished live shows I've ever seen. Mind you, I wasn't a fan of Hardwired. So I hope that quality hasn't translated into laziness...

Korn had a period, I hate to say this but when Head was gone, where their gigs were insane. Not as polished but felt as if they wanted to prove they could still go without him. Saw them last year with Limp Bizkit and LB were admittedly better on the night, but by the end of the night Korn had won everyone back. The show felt far more like a big time rock show, though: everyone in their place, nothing missed, every beat perfect, if lacking a little heart. Bizkit were a lot more *fun*, but I don't know if that's just because Wes Borland couldn't even pretend to conceal his disgust with Durst all night.

I saw Metallica almost one year ago, it was the opening of the new stadium in Minneapolis and it was incredibly fun and entertaining. It's been a while since I've seen Korn but they seem to be hit or miss based on the night.

El Camino

Coal Chamber are worth seeing live still, the performance makes up for its slight ropeyness with sheer energy. Meegs is the master of open string/first fret only riffs, apart from maybe Daron Malkayan

Ha. They had a good album. My step-brother used to give me a bunch of CDs because he worked at Capitol Records. I got a lot of random stuff.

For the longest time I thought OTEP had two singers, one male one female. Warhead kinda sounds like a duet. Not so much. That chick is loving brutal.
