rojogames posted:No plans for UU2 at the moment. It's more tied into the main Ultima story, taking place between Ultima 7 part 1 and Ultima 7 part 2 as I understand it. I'd need to decide if I wanted to play 7 on the channel first, for continuity, or even go all the way back and do a heavily edited playthrough of 4 and then 5 and 6 first as well (all of which I haven't played at all except for a little of 4). It's still a cool game, though, and I may decide to just play it sometime, story continuity be damned. I've occasionally tried to find a decent video LP of Ultima 7 without any luck. Everyone (on youtube) who LPs it seems to be the sort of person who sees a game with no voice acting and thinks "I have a voice! I'll do the voice acting!" And then puts on incredibly annoying voices for every - single - conversation. Anyway, I never did play Ultima Underworld 2; it would be interesting to see.

Can I make a suggestion: change the MIDI device to Soundblaster, General Midi sounds so bad, though I do admit the sound effects are pretty funny, such as piano notes for footsteps like in an old silent film. Otherwise it's interesting seeing someone do an Unarmed playthrough of this game. I never really found unarmed skills in games useful since half of the point of these games is finding better weapons to kill things with. wafflemoose fucked around with this message at 01:54 on Jul 26, 2017 |

Based on your advice I looked into this and actually took it a step further based mostly on this thread over on GOG about how to get Roland CM-32L emulation set up. Makes a whole world of difference, so thanks for bringing that to my attention! I'm going to upload a sound test probably sometime today to show off the differences between a few different audio devices.

Sound Test Based on wafflemoose's advice I looked into updating our audio settings for future videos. I also made this video to compare the different options available. Devices: Microsoft GS Software Wavetable Synthesizer (default windows synth, and what we've been using to date) Sound Blaster (DOSBOX emulation, not sure specifically which version of Sound Blaster, but I think it's SB Pro 1) Roland MT-32 (Munt emulation) Roland CM-32L (Munt emulation) Episode 6 will post later this evening. rojovision fucked around with this message at 19:41 on Jul 26, 2017 |

Yknow,I was wondering why it kept dinging whenever you opened a door... The Roland CM-32L really shows off the sound design in this game. It's pretty strong, definitely a lot more atmospheric than I expected in parts like the water. God drat if that Sound Blaster isn't nostalgic as gently caress, though.

Aren't you guys glad I pointed that out? The Roland CM-32L is probably the best option but personally I think the music sounds better with the Soundblaster. Maybe you can do Soundblaster for music and Roland CM-32L for sounds? Comedy option: keep General Midi for sounds wafflemoose fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Jul 26, 2017 |

Man, the sounds are so much better now. Notes for episode 6: pre:Grey goblin named Jaacar implied that something dangerous lurks in their privy.
Ketchaval, grey goblin king, is having problems with a spider called Navrey Night-eyes.
Navrey's web is strong as iron and does not burn.
Ketchaval claims Cabirus committed suicide by taking poison. Somehow I doubt that story.
Korianous helped build the Abyss; his grave is on level 1 of the Abyss.
Korianous was killed when a stone block fell on him. Accident? Or murder?

Tax Refund posted:Also, I noticed that when you found some worn leather leggings to replace your badly worn leather leggings, the character model changed. I went back over it, and the badly worn leather leggings had some visible damage to them, while the leather leggings that were merely "worn" had a model that was less visibly damaged. This game was seriously impressive for its time (1992). Ambient, context-sensitive music, visible damage to your armor so you can tell when it needs to be repaired or replaced, a physics model that lets you throw rubber balls around AND can cope with changing the height of parts of the floor... I am impressed. - sloped surfaces - actual 3D objects like shrines, rocks, some furniture - 3D movement, jumping, flying/levitating, the option to fall straight to a lower level etc. - inventory system with nesting containers (with a slight chance of said nesting containers loving up your game pre-patch, but still) - interaction with the world. Bashing doors, breaking rocks, poking buttons with 10' poles/slingshots/magic missiles, destroying items with magical fire. - automap with built-in note system (that was when games like Eye of the Beholder liked making you draw your own map on graph paper and rage at illusionary walls and teleporters) - excellent mouse interface. Combat, inventory, movement, pretty much everything can be done with two buttons, they could get rid of the left-hand icons and lose nothing. They feel like a nod towards people used to more traditional controls. - in-depth plot in a loving 3D game in an era where those used to be either simulators or "kill everyone and the big villain" type shooters. - awesome music (I couldn't appreciate that one due to not having a sound card. The first thing I ran when I got one was Dungeon Master 2 at which point I melted from the ) And it still holds up. I can still start my DOSBox and play through both Underworlds without getting tired of them. ...You know what? gently caress it. It's been a while, I'll play along.
