i have been tasked with thanksgiving cocktail service and have been completely uninspired due to my will to live &c. being sapped by working for a living fortunately the coffee shop was willing to sell me a generous portion of their home-made sweet potato spice puree which, it turns out, is fuckin' great when a little tiny bit is mixed with sotol, the spirit i have the most of at the moment (which is also good). so i think i'll do that and maybe some unsweetened cranberry juice and some agave and a dash of habanero bitters and boom people mistake me for someone that knows what they're doing

made myself a rye old fashioned. i used palm sugar syrup.  i feel like i can never get it good enough to worth making over a cocktail i can actually pull off decently, instructions like "use enough bitters to soak a sugar cube" gently caress me up.

I have a couple of bottles of scotch that are of questionable quality so I've been making Rob Roy's with them. It always take a few tries to get a recipe right, and a few more after that to get it just the way you like it. I wouldn't sweat it too much, home in on your own recipe.

I usually put 2 or 3 dashes of bitters in an old fashioned and I use simple or maple syrup instead of sugar, and not much, like 0.5 oz for a 2oz pour
