I was at a wedding after-party this weekend in a small music venue with a club DJ. I was the first person to make a request, a couple hours in, and asked if he had any Eric Prydz he could play and he said yes, at which point a half dozen other people came up after me to also make requests. After about 20 minutes, he finally got around to playing Every Day, but at that very moment most of the people were taking a break from the dance floor. I didn't want to look like a buffoon jumping around by myself, but in retrospect, I should have and hopefully gotten people to come back and jump around too.

This is gonna bother me for years because I'm just that kind of crazy.

It is your responsibility to dance when the DJ plays a track you requested, even if you are the only one! I had a similar thing happen where I requested a song at a wedding, and then stepped outside for a smoke break and completely missed the song. The worst part was that apparently everyone went out on the dance floor for it....except me and my wife who were stealthily smoking a hash pen.
My extreme overreaction was to get tickets to see Eric Prydz at Rebel in Toronto on Friday of NYE weekend. He's also playing Echostage in DC 2 days later on NYE which he has mentioned as one of his favorite clubs, and the Prydz subreddit says his NYE 2014 concert was amazing so that would seem like the obvious choice except:

1) Rebel majorly renovated a year ago and Toronto goons say the sound is super good. Plus moving LED ceiling rings!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj9A8OkVp6U

2) One of my best friends lives in Buffalo and is willing to go with me and he's happy to get a hotel in Toronto (where I've never been) for the whole NYE weekend.

3) Probably nobody I know in DC would be up for it, plus it would be more than twice as expensive for the whole trip.

This would only be my 5th concert as an adult and the first one I've traveled for, so this is all new to me.

I went to Eric Prydz in Toronto on Dec 29.

It was v good. My second show ever after Major Lazer in Atlanta a few years ago.

Actually I also saw Outkast's reunion tour in Atlanta a couple years ago and it sucked.

Sunday 10pm closing mainstage is still unknown. Prydz could join them. This could happen.

Also dubstep is the worst.

Trip report: Echostage was fine but we probably stood too close to the front. I had earplugs but it’s physically exhausting to have the speakers beating on you.

Carl played almost all techno which is fine but I was hoping for house. Lots of kids in their early 20s, too many people lighting up joints, just vape you jerks.

After the shitshow that was getting tickets for Eric Prydz HOLO the weekend before NYE in NYC, he’s coming to DC to play Echostage for actual NYE. Speaking of A&B, I saw them for the first time at Echostage last night and it was loving fantastic. So much more enjoyable than Tiesto last week.

Given my utter love for Eric Prydz, this alone was worth the price of admission:

I was almost gunna go to that show! I live in NY and my brother lives in DC so I go down there all the time to see shows.

Had a bunch of friends from the Anjunafamily groups that were there and it looked like a blast.

Im seeing Andrew Bayer next week and Im SO stoked. His new Parallels EP is really great. The end of this track is amazing.
https://soundcloud.com/anjunabeats/andrew-bayer-voltage-control

Hes hands down one of the most talented electronic producer around. His versatility blows my mind when he puts out an EP like Parallels out after stuff like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhxC7N97XwI

And then remixes that track to be an absolute banger(among all the others from this album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqpCKb1WwBc

He is also essentially the 4th member of A&B as he is credited as the 4th writer on a ton of their new tracks.
A&B played a couple Bayer songs and gave him shout outs during the show. I haven’t seen Bayer live nor am I too familiar with his style of music but for $20 at Souncheck next Friday, I might as well go?

For the longest time I confused Andrew Bayer with Adam Beyer. :downs:

Id absolutely go, thats a great venue for him, I was there for Ilan Bluestone(was shooting the show) and Spencer Brown and was really impressed with it. Its right by my brothers bar(Columbia Room) too so I try to catch shows there whenever I can cuz its always a fun night.

His style is hard to lock down, hes usually "trance" but his last album In My Last Life is anything but. Its basically trance inspired 80s pop music, right down to major Kate Bush influences.
I’m industry adjacent so I know Columbia Room all too well... but is your brother is Derek Brown? :psyduck:

I listened to Bayer’s ABGT300 set on YouTube and Parallels. I like his instrumental stuff, especially Parallels (a lot of it sounds like it could be Cirez D) but the vocal stuff from ABGT300 I’m meh on.

Paul Oakenfold is playing at Soundcheck here in DC next month and tickets are only $27 before Ticketmaster fees but I'm gonna be in NYC that weekend. Dubfire and Andrew Bayer are also in July which I might check out but those are maybe a bit too chill.

At least Echostage has Above & Beyond on Thanksgiving weekend. The artist presale ticket price is $62.50 though and I seem to remember tickets for the event starting at $50? :psyduck:

We've had Zedd, David Guetta, and Tiesto since clubs reopened on July 11 and the Youtube videos indicate the shows were PACKED. Alesso is this Friday but $70 feels a bit much for mainstage music.

Porter Robinson is playing at The Anthem in October which is newish and our largest general music venue but it seems sold out.

e: Looks like I may have misremembered that $50 price and the $62 for A&B includes fees. Tickets bought, :feelsgood:

Josh Lyman

I didn't seriously get into EDM until 2013 so I missed out on seeing them live but I've always wanted to. They're playing here in DC at our NBA/NHL arena next August, so that's an instabuy for me.

The new single has production that is identifiable as SHM but it mainly just feels like a Weeknd song.

Josh Lyman

Spotify Wrapped reminded me how much I still listen to EDM from 2011-13. There are exceptions like Eric Prydz who is by far my favorite. Ultra 2013 is when I first seriously got into the genre so it makes me wonder if this is like when people always listen to the music that was popular from high school. Or maybe I’m just becoming a boomer? :thunk:
