I've been wanting a thread like this in here for a while but was far too lazy to make one, thanks OP.

Happy that Bassnectar made it in there as well. Love his stuff, first started listening in 2009/10ish and first saw him at a tour stop in 2011 in a sweaty rear end nasty club. I'm not one of those "follow Bassnectar everywhere he goes" types, but if he's at a festival I am, believe I'm at his set over anyone else. This year's NYE 360 was the first of his curated events I've seen and I was blown away.

Off his newest release, this song makes me want to jump through the goddamn ceiling.

All that said, I cannot loving stand ~*weird bass*~ crap like Space Jesus, Yheti, Toadface and whatever else. It's like, instead of trying to make music, they're trying to be edgy and make poo poo that sounds dumber and more bizarre than the next guy.

I can't agree with this more. Flume is awesome when he works with other artists, but when left to his own devices, Flume tries too hard to Flume. Just constant edgelording "aha, bet you didn't expect THAT!" and it ends up sounding like poo poo.

Floss are certainly pioneers, but I've never really been impressed with them live. Curt continually stays mixing (not outstandingly) and Josh just yelled at people and waved a flag. I always figured Josh was some sort of studio/production wizard and just couldn't DJ worth anything.

Haven't heard from them much since the split, what's the show like with just Curt?

I was gonna go to Bassnectar NYE but I slept on tickets and it sold out.

Also my work schedule has me waking up around 3am and going to sleep between 6 and 7pm so a 9pm-2am show isn't really a thing that can happen anyway.

Also Illenium's set today was like a million times better than when I saw him like 6 months ago, and I thought that set was great lmao. This one was just on another level entirely though.

Good. He deserves to.

I won't lie, some of the most fun I've ever had at shows has been at Bassnectar shows. But his actions are just completely indefensible and gross. I haven't listened to his music since I first heard about the allegations and I don't plan on listening to it in the future.

Hell, same.

I'm one of those weirdos that prefers physical media over streaming, and all my Bassnectar discs were at the very front of the cd wallet in my car. There were times I'd listen to Vava Voom or NVSB while driving and I'd go through them front to back, like four times in a row over the course of a number of days. I haven't touched them in months.

I made a comment on Reddit (I know) about how none of what he did is defensible and if he does down the line decide to come back, the community should not in any circumstance support that action, and got extremely downvoted.

He put on one gently caress of a live show, and I have some memories that I'll never forget. Probably the best of which is from Electric Forest 2015, one of my closest friends was kind of gloomy as we're standing around pre-show, so I gave him a drug-fueled passionate pep-talk about looking at all the wonderful people out here wearing their favorite outfits, playing with their favorite shiny and flashy and glowy poo poo, and they're all here to have a drat good time! He gave me a hug and from what I could tell, had a drat good time! What really locked in the memory was the next morning at camp he said to me "Thanks for last night man, I was able to not think about anything and enjoy the show. I needed that."

I'll keep those parts, but if you want to greenlight his actions as a person, go gently caress yourself.

A bunch of my friends back home worked really hard to establish a thriving EDM scene in our city of ~500K. They got ill to play a show, took him during the day to check out some local spots, hung out after the show, and multiple times he's messaged them like "hey I'm playing Saturday two hours away, you got anywhere I can throw down Thursday or Friday?" Not to promoters or clubs directly, but to the people building grassroots, who then go to the people they know at the venues.

Super cool guy.

God, it was always incredible when you’d be rail-riding at a festival and someone would get up there and just make sounds that you’d straight up never heard before. Electric!

I pretty much agree with this. It almost seems like if you go to a show and don't hear some of those 2010-2015 tracks dropped, it's a disappointment.

Dang kids with their 808s and future bass. I feel like a lot of the future bass type stuff I've listened to is just based on "yeahhhhh bet ya didn't expect that" and it just ends up sounding like poo poo with no discernable tempo or rhythm.

Chief McHeath

So much poo poo being passed back and forth on Reddit between Bassnectar and Illenium fans. From what I can tell, Illenium played a Bassnectar track at a show, people were like, hey, guy, he's currently on trial for sexual assault and human trafficking, maybe don't play his songs right now? So he says "I didn't even know it was a Bassnectar song, it wasn't labeled as such in my library," and Bassnectar fans are climbing way out of the woodwork to look for any way to prove that the clown wasn't a groomer. Again.

Disclosure: Bassnectar was basically what got me into any sort of electronic music. I've been to a number of club shows and festivals he's headlined. I have about six CDs in the binder in my car and I haven't listened to a single one since the allegations against him came out. And I will not.
