Halloween Jack posted:I figured it out. I was thinking of Re:Born where he, like...shoots a guy in the neck...with a pistol magazine...and a pen...but no pistol. This was a fun movie, but the plot takes the hero and his small squad off into a forest about 3/4 of the way through and the scene goes on too long by about double, I think they shot a bunch of ‘cool’ stuff and then didn’t have the heart to cut any of it.

Anyone else see The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion..? I don’t know if I could really recommend it as the first three-quarters of the runtime is like some shot-for-tv twee Korean drama about a schoolgirl winning a talent show and it drags interminably but then the last half-hour goes bonkers, maybe the s-l-o-w start makes the sudden violence all the more https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Witch:_Part_1._The_Subversion

I liked Tak Sakaguchi's quick, brutal style in RE:BORN so I took a look at his filmography; I didn't realise he's been in a lot of the mid-00's 'splatter gore' genre that came out of Japan. I picked one I hadn't seen before - YAKUZA WEAPON - and was quite thoroughly amused. As a manga adaptation I was expecting some silliness but it was exceptionally ridiculous - the fistfight scenes themselves were a little roughly lit and shot, and the whole move has a cheap DTV feel, but if you want to see an insane yakuza have his dead sister turned into a nude cyborg who shoots a machinegun from her mouth and rockets from elsewhere, this may well be the film you have been searching for.

The early Seagal stuff where he did a bunch of Judo-style throws and shoves was an eye opener when all the other martial arts stuff I had seen was very kick-based. Of course these days if you could somehow Judo from sitting in a chair he would be absolutely unstoppable. This is a re-use of the Yojimbo / Fistful of Dollars plot, but it is in no way a good movie.
