I'd need to see it again to clarify that, which I probably won't, but as far as I can remember Brosnan had no idea any bombings were going to take place at all, he makes a comment to one of the guys along the lines of "if we're gonna be bombing poo poo at least don't kill a bunch of random civillians", but he still didn't like it and had no part in planning it.. Maybe I misunderstood that part.

Brosnan ordered the explosions, but he wanted no casualties, so the government would be forced to the table and he could get some of his guys released form prison.

I don't think I've seen Lockout mentioned. It is a pretty fun movie about Guy Pearce having to rescue someone from a space jail.

So, because of this thread I've been watching some action movies again. Thanks for that.

Today I watched Man on Fire again, and drat if it isn't some drat good movie.

The chemistry between Denzel and Dakota is awesome, and he sells it really, really well. Add Christopher Walken and the dude from Casino Royale and it loving owns. Go see it if you haven't.

The music is also great with the guitar thingies, and Denzel's walk is like some art or something, the way he walks the dog... I love it. :)

Man of Tai Chi was fun, thanks for the heads up.

Weird that it's basically forgotten considering one of the biggest action stars in the business directed it. Maybe because it came out within a few years of some of the best action we've ever seen put to film(sandwiched between The Raid films, John Wick a year later) so it was overshadowed.

I've read about it, but never gotten around to seeing it. Keanu is a pretty big dude.

Does anyone know if Lockout (2012) is any good? It's got a terrible movie poster but Luc Besson's name is on it and it has Guy Pierce in it along with Joseph Gilgun and few other choice names.

It is very cool. The interrogation at the start is brilliant.

Don't know if I mentioned this one already or if it qualifies as an Action Movie, but I just saw Outlander again for what must be the tenth time.

If you like a monster movie with Vikings, go watch it. It is firmly tongue in cheek and has some good actors ( Jim Caviezel, John Hurt and Ron Perlman ) in it. The CGI is serviceable though.

Just saw Overlord, go watch it. Especially in a cinema with a good soundsystem.

Forces spéciales / Special Forces is a solid one in the Delta Force / Navy Seals tradition. They filmed in the mountains of Tajikistan which gives the scenes set in Afghanistan a look you rarely get.

The sniper scene is good.

Seconding Upgrade. drat, that was fun.

It's more of a slow-burn thriller than an action movie, but Blue Ruin is a nasty little revenge movie, and it definitely has some action.

Along those lines, I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore is another revenge movie with a real sense of dread to it, but it's also darkly comedic.

For more straight-ahead action, Fast and the Furious parts 5-8 are excellent, and Fast and Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw was fun, but kind of a letdown after how amazing 5-8 were. Part 6 is my absolute favorite from the entire series, but everyone seems to have a different favorite.

And even though it's a TV show, the Lethal Weapon series ran for three seasons on Fox and was a lot of fun, with at least one great action sequence in every episode, and deeper development of Riggs, Murtaugh, and their relationship. I never got the impression that TV Riggs and Murtaugh were the best friends the movie characters were (mostly because the TV actors hated each other), but they definitely got a lot more interesting backstories on TV, with so much more time to spend fleshing them out. When Murtaugh's new partner was introduced in Season 3, he was cool too, and not just a Riggs ripoff.

And Banshee on Cinemax might be the greatest action series of all time, but not nearly enough people have discovered it because it was on Cinemax. (The first two seasons, out of four total, are on Amazon Prime.)

Banshee is cool, Justified also.

Also Strike Back. I dont know if I like it more than Banshee but the chemistry between Scott and Stonebridge is amazing. Last two seasons with a new crew are ok as well.

I just love the lines Olyphant has in Justified. He and Boyd are just fun to watch.

6 Underground commits the ultimate sin for action movies, it becomes boring. A whole lot of action movies seem to have this problem these days.

Another thing that is bugging me lately: John Wick has this problem of "filler" between actions, you know people waiting to do the next bit, and it is really noticeable. Especially after watching the Matrix again, drat that movie's choreography rocks.
