you can go into settings->keyboard and change the global quit command to something like alt+q that mimics the mac though

looking forward to Linux supporting 104 key keyboards after the last 102 key owners die in 60 years.

meta is widely used by applications from the terminal-only era, so it is not super practical for global shortcuts

it's not that hard to use, and there are multiple functional wms. try lxde? it's basically windows 98 kinda or something? if that's too smart for you then gob ack to using the mac

using linux on a desktop is a bad idea unless you've been using linux on a desktop for years... if they provided you with a mac why did you bother going for wayyy-too-hard-to-use ubuntu?

xmonad.

You basically have to configure it using haskell.

This is an example config linked from the haskell/xmonad docs https://wiki.haskell.org/Xmonad/Config_archive/Brent_Yorgey%27s_darcs_xmonad.hs

gnome is a lot better than any other desktop. You have some kinda insane stockholm syndrome from using the terrible aids infected osx too much. I pray for your recovery op. Namaste.

Seems most of your problem with the os are derived from you trying to give it aids (making it more like osx.) Think about it op

it's ok, but gnome's window management is great once you learn the shortcuts. you can fling windows all over the desktop and between workspaces with just the keyboard while osx still requires you to drag things around for certain operations, like moving windows between workspaces

yeah lxde is alright, it's basically a pre-configured openbox, and openbox is probably the best barebones floating windows manager. the config is pretty straight forward but it's XML (lol). might want to customize a bit or pull out and swap components
