That girl can swing around a sword that's bigger than she is. The only thing I'm gonna say to her is "excuse me" as I get out of her way.

I might be (read: probably am) grossly incorrect about this, but it's possible that the name is based on the fact that these are ingredients to other recipes? I know Marmalade is used in another cooking thing, and Grape Liqueur is used in pharmacy stuff. Mixed Ole is pretty much the capstone of Mixer recipes, though (in other games in the series it takes 90+ cooking skill to make) and Boiled Gyoza is just some meat dumplings. EDIT: Digging up a guide, Mixed Ole is actually depressingly easy to make in RF2. I don't know how blending fruit and vegetable juice together with milk went from a relatively pedestrian 18 skill here in RF2 to 91 in RF4... The king of the mixer recipes has to be the gold juice though? Not level wise, but lore wise? You grow these plants that take forever to grow and blend them in a gaudy, sparkly golden juice. And then you make money.

Honestly only negative to the school bit was it gets reaaaaaal repetitive, but it's easy to just skip some days if it gets grating. Although it was weird that one recipe would stick around for each batch of lessons no matter what so it's easy to accidentally learn "Hammers Axes and Sickles III" or whatever four separate times.

It's such a minor thing, it just feels worse because by that point in the game some amount of fatigue's set in and I want to rush all these shiny new skills and not be stuck without Swords 2 because I re-learnt Swords 3 two weeks in a row.

Update 29: Playing With Giant Swords So, welcome back. You might remember that we ended the last update with Water Laser, and I said it was important or something? Yeah whoops I actually meant to grab THIS spell on a table. Mea culpa. Oh, I’ve missed you so much, old friend. I mean, there’s nothing WRONG with Water Laser, it’s perfectly serviceable, but… Let’s talk about great utility spells. Hi, Escape. If you use this in a dungeon, it returns you to the entrance immediately. If you use it in town, it sends you back to your house. It also costs 0 RP. This is very handy, and cuts down on a ton of the more...draggy bits of playing RF2. Now that we have so many spells, I’d like to store some, but...I filled up the shelf. Whoops. Well, for now let’s just go play with Water Laser. Which, coincidentally, is a very obnoxious spell to get on a screencap. There we go. There’s honestly not much to say about it, it’s Water elemental and it is a laser. It has screenlong range and it lasts so long it sometimes ticks on enemies twice, though. So I’d call it one of the better combat spells, if not super-entertaining. Thankfully, it’s Wednesday, so I can also solve this shelf debacle. I picked up the Refrigerator while I was here as well. And, to round out the set, let’s grab a Record Player. I kinda love the description there. All of these new purchases make their way to the same place everything Bargain related does, the Workshop at the school. So, on the bright side, this is double the amount of storage space for both the Shelf and Refrigerator. Unfortunately, you cannot access your Home Shelf/Fridge from the Workshop Shelf/Fridge, or vice versa. I feel like I’m obligated to make some kind of goof here about Resident Evil item boxes but I have not played those games. And there’s our Record Player! It changes the music in the workshop to any of the seasonal themes from your farm. What do you mean that’s not worth 20000 G? This is a 100% Bargains Run. Since we’re at school anyway, let’s see what Mana has in store. Holy poo poo mana what is it with you and grilled fish The lesson I did end up taking was Shrimp Ahoy because it had the best name. It nabs us Shrimp Sashimi, Grilled Shrimp, Lobster Sashimi, Grilled Lobster, and Tempura, as pictured. Now that we know all there is to know about Shrimp, it’s time to show Tanya all we know about...killing Orcs, I guess. : That's great! More trials and.fighting is always a good thing! This time, I want you to defeat 10 Orcs for me, okay? You already seem pretty skilled, so this shouldn't be a problem for you. My only advice is: Don't let your guard down. You can find Orcs in Trieste Forest. Now then, off you go! Take care out there! This was about as difficult and engaging as it sounds. Once you’ve defeated A Big Tree, Orcs ain’t poo poo. Shoutout to the mid-flight arrow about to hit absolutely nothing. (maybe this minor victory is going to my head) : Just like I thought you would. You've got sword skills, just like your father. I've have (sic) a reward for you. It’s like I’m back in the single digit updates all over again. : I’ll give you another battle hint, then... Although her tip is mostly a sales pitch, Tanya’s pointing out a nice new feature of Generation 2. Tanya sells more weapons now that we’ve slain our first boss! This is a very stable alternative to Forging, honestly, so you don’t have to bother with it if you don’t want to. I didn’t buy any of the new weapons, but we’ve had an empty Accessory slot for like the entire game. That strength gain sure looks good! I don’t really know what it does, because I don’t have any of the formulas for how poo poo works in this game, but it’s probably good! Maybe I can dig up the manual for this one too. Let’s hit up another request at the Forge. : Uh… I seem to have lost the PIN I borrowed from Leonel...I can’t find the thing anywhere! He’s a nice guy and probably wouldn’t get mad about it, but I’m sure it’d make him sad if he found out I lost it...Will you help me look for it, Anna? You know, I kinda felt bad about not doing any Roy requests while we were in the BandanZone, but he is...kind of a gently caress up, huh? : Sure. Where’d you lose it? : I think somewhere in my house. It could be somewhere with Mom’s weapons, or buried under my toys. But, in any case, I can’t find it at all! Will you help me look for it? : Sure, I’ll give the place a good looking over! Well, it’s not here. But I do think this means Anna now legally owns Tanya’s store. I don’t think we’ve ever been upstairs here either. The decor is...about what you’d expect. This is another one of these “wander around and hit A” requests, but it does give us some valuable insight into Tanya’s style of furnishings. She likes swords. And axes. And open pits of flame. You know, I think Roy’s smarter than I made him out to be earlier. He’s still alive. The actual spot you want to check is the top barrel by the stairs. : That’s it! Boy, I sure owe you one, Anna! Here, have this in return! : Remember not to say anything to Leonel! Well. What to do now? Bam, Blessia Island, perfect segue. I’m getting more confident grinding here, since these monsters aren’t too terrible. Like so. Also it’s full of crops and that’s cool. I don’t think this line was supposed to trigger inside of the bathhouse, but it was so good I couldn’t include it. I also wanted to sell the crops, but alas, it seems Doug has gone on a walk. Same with Ray. I had a brief moment of existential crisis here where I thought all of my NPCs were slowly disappearing. Thankfully Alicia reminded me that Doug is, in fact...at my own house. Because he collects the shipping crate. Also all of her prices are doubled in the second generation. I made it rain, but with greater regret than usual. Thanks, mom. To try and end this string of failures, Anna went to school. This time it’s “Staff Basics”. This is the most important tip you should take from Rune Factory 2. This was just a small nitpick. This is where the text box ends. And it picks up. I guess this is one of the problems of only being able to put one item in the recipe at a time. This gives us the recipes for the Silver Staff, Flare Staff, Ice Staff, Lightning Rod, and Earth Staff. I also did “Waterpots, Hoes, & Poles” to get the Tin Waterpot, Sturdy Hoe, and Beginner’s Pole. I also went ahead and reforged these old classics. We’re slowly crawling our way back to maximum farming potential. This is costing a lot of ore, though. Thankfully, Trieste Forest has this handy room we can access now, full of rocks to smash! Hooray! There are also quite a few in the Mushroom Patch, but you’ve also got the natural inhabitants to contend with there. Unfortunately I don’t think Audrey took kindly to my actions. Sorry, buddy. You also might notice all of the other animals growing into some kind of horrifying clump. That’s actually a new thing with the Friendship Points system. Once you have a monster at high FP, they will follow you around. Since Audrey’s new, it doesn’t seem to care much about our hero. Oh yeah, I also sold the Raisin Bread. There’s one more chore I need to take care of here. Namely, actually using the wood pile. It does have a practical purpose! You can gather Wood here, at a cost of one Wood per...Wood. (look we’re nearly done with the update bear with me for like ten more screens) It’s required, for example, for a new fishing rod. Maybe we’ll be able to do some cooking soon. We’ve also got this unused Pharmacy station, so… In a nice touch, the little animation that plays here is different for each crafting station. This is handy. It’s worth mentioning that the Pharmacy will also refund your ingredients if the crafting fails. Only Cooking doesn’t do that, because it hates you. ...Audrey c’mon. After all that success, it’s time for tragedy. This new waterpot is actually NOT the same as the original. It only charges up to three squares, not the 3x3 grid. If we want that luxury back, we’ve got...more forging to do. RF2 Monkey’s Paw, fully curled, now punching me in the gut. (well, it does at least hold more water than the original one, but that’s incredibly minor) Alright, let’s just clear out the game’s last big gold sink and finish up the Workshop. First up, the small appliances: : You can’t cook without a frying pan. How about 2000G? : You know you’re a full fledged chef if you own a good pot. How about 2500G? And the big ones: : Mixers are nice to have...You’ve got to have one of these. How about 5000G? Yue has a much higher opinion of the Mixer than Russell did. I can’t believe I remember that. : If you can cook using a steamer then your cooking is nearly pro! How about 2000G? And that’s it! That’s the whole kitchen and...I’m pretty sure that’s a Microwave Oven and not a real one, Yue. dammit Yue I spent 17,500G on this poo poo next time flower festival

Can we only do one lesson per day per teacher? ...I have no idea why I think it was two. Maybe my memory is messed up. Why don't we give mom some gift she likes? Not that it changes anything, but having your mother at zero FP is kinda weird. And maybe we should do all of the quests? I mean, it's not like they're gonna go anywhere.

All of the farming equipment Bandan gets is the equivalent of your Level 3 tools. So one more upgrade should get you up to speed on them. Unfortunately, you'll probably need to dip into ore gathering on Blessia Island to get the silver for it.

Update 30: Trouble On Turtle Island Welcome back. Let’s celebrate some flowers. You saw this Festival like 20 something updates ago, it’s not exactly exciting. I spent the morning logging, then headed to Messhina Valley to check on my Fall crops. However, I am ambushed by a cutscene. This part is oddly threatening. : Cammy, you said you’d keep this a secret! : Hey, I didn’t tell any of the teachers! There are two teachers and one half of them already know. We’re only duping Mana here. : Yeah, don’t worry! We haven’t said a thing! : B-But...you guys… : There’s no need to waste time pointing fingers, anyway, is there? Plus, the more of us that know, the more people who can you out if anything happens! : Well...keep it a secret from everyone’s parents, okay? : We will! : Promise! : Okay! : Let’s tackle Messhina Valley together, then! :But you’ve fought alone before...With more people, it’ll be safer, right? : Hmm...I don’t think so… I can’t really explain it, but I feel like...I don’t know...like fighting comes naturally to me. Anna was born to slay goblins and water strawberries, sometimes both with the same tool. : What are you talking about? I’d deride Cammy here for just saying Anna’s strong because her dad was, but she literally did just directly inherit his stats. : My dad was strong? :Yeah...He didn’t look tough at all, but when it came down to it, he could surprise you! : Dad… : You really do take after your father, don’t you Anna? : I… I guess I do! : Come on then, Roy. We’re only going to get in the way here. Let’s head back. : All right… but you be careful out here, Anna, okay? You can always run away if things get dangerous! : Yeah, I know! Thank you! Well, she is carrying on his legacy pretty well. If not better. She’s also carrying his Sweet Potatoes. It’s the Flower Festival, so Mana’s too busy staring at plants to teach us anything. Thankfully we don’t need her or Barrett here to use any of the Workshop tools. Our new neighbors seem more excited about the Festival than I am this year. Honestly there’s not much to talk about with it. I’m more interested in even more sweet potatoes. At least Jake’s changed a bit. a bit I’ll be happy if any reviews of this LP come out as “isn’t that terrible”. I’m aiming high this go-around. Seven years later and Cammy has still not managed to achieve her Tree Dreams. I never really thought about it, but I guess Gordon can’t do his service on Festival days. Not that it seems to bother him. Don’t push me, mom! Uh, Byron? Maybe you should scoot those glasses up. I’ll be honest, I made an executive call here. (Also I thought a second marriage poll would be a bit silly, since we cannot get married in this generation. Just raise LP to 10.) I can change directions if the thread wants, but I think Anna has a mission. She’s going to romantically cure Human/Elf strife, to prevent Future Jakes. : Flower watching…. Sure, let’s go. Let’s go to Cherry Blossom Square. Also it’s funniest this way because the cutscene just auto-triggers for Anna to walk to the left for about seven seconds. You can see him from where you’re standing! I can already see this relationship is going beautifully. : Yeah, I just got here too, Orgland. I was worried that I made you wait. : Well, let’s go over to the cherry tree. : It’s pretty, isn’t it? : Yeah, I guess so. : I love the cherry blossoms. Looking at them just makes me happy. : Really? They don’t make me feel anything in particular. But I guess they’re pretty. : Don’t you think it’s good to be happy? : Yeah, I guess. I’m not really that interested in flowers, but it’s not like I hate them or anything. : Oh. This feels like a pretty common date situation. Except for the part where one party is an Elf. : Well, what are you interested in, Orland? Anna is regretting her decision more by the word. : That sounds like a lot of work. What are you going to do when you’re someone important? : …...It’s better to be someone who’s important rather than someone who’s not. : Oh. Well, you’ve got a lot of work to do. : Since I’m studying a hundred times harder than you are... Yeah, I know. I don’t need you to tell me, Anna. what have i wrought : Yeah, thanks for coming here with me. : Yeah, thanks. Bye. : See you later! I think that went just about as well as could be expected, don’t you? With all of that Festivaling out of the way, I think it’s about time we did some checking on our second dungeon, Blessia Island. This first room should be familiar enough to you all that I don’t think it needs any further commentary. Here’s like, a solid line of it anyway. We can now finally do something about that Statue on the lower right, though. ...This is the most demanding loving statue. Since we can’t do anything about that yet, we’ll check out the statue in the second room. This is a new trend some of the tablets will require. Hope you can remember your RF2 trivia. Summer theming, appropriate for Blessia. Search your noggins and dredge up this one! Or, you know, don’t, because I already did and it’s in the next shot. Congratulations! A little bit of bias there, Statue. Thankfully I’ve been farming a ton around here. This one can be a little obscure, since it’s only for a single season, and you honestly don’t have to spend much time outside at night in this game. That one took two tries. Alright, we haven’t even been here yet. This is a total shot in the dark. Thankfully I’m a great...dark shooter. (look this is why this update took so long) Big talk there, Anna. Here’s the new area we’ve gained access to, Silent Cave! I’m not sure how silent it can be with that giant-rear end Hammer Troll in there. It hits pretty hard, but it’s predictably slow and you can easily kite itaround and just Wizard the crap out of ‘em. This is what drops those Giant’s Gloves, by the way. They’re actually worn by a Troll...but I’ll take it. Here’s another spawner, as well as Anna’s impending doom. There are two more exits to the cave. This north one is, sadly, barricaded until we do a little tilling. That’s some RF1 poo poo right there. Oh, Anna, you don’t know the half of it. Be thankful Godwin isn’t here. The southern entrance is also blocked, but it only craves blood. Anna is so remarkably pumped to slay a new creature. I don’t think we’ve seen a Death Stalker yet. So here’s an exit that looks blocked, but you can wriggle around it. We’ll need to come back here later for those Death Stalkers, but for now there’s just a regular Troll. It’s like the Hammer Troll, but minus the Hammer. They do count as separate species, though. So, for now we’ve just got to hit up the Altar. A new foe lurks here, the Tortoise! They showed up very late in RF1, but in this game they’re a bit more timely. They like to try and slide into you, so they can be a bit tricky to dispatch. Time to head south. Later, Goblin. This is the Southeast Beach, which we needed to access for that Tilling statue earlier anyway. Glad I stumbled across it. Here’s the aforementioned field as well. And here it is once I got done with it. Huh, the sunset actually lined up really well with that screenshot transition. Since I’m hurting for RP at this point, now I head back and pick up the Runes from our summer crops. There are also a few RP Rocks to smash in the Silent Cave. Since it’s nighttime now, the monster distribution has changed. Shadow Panthers and Death Stalkers have replaced the Goblins. There’s also this easy to miss area south of the SE Beach. It’s just full of turtles. Noone enjoys this place. Let’s go. Farewell, Rock Godwin. This one is illegible, apparently. And also the room is full of BLOOD PANTHERS, which are a terrifying thing that want to murder humans. And have really high attack. Thankfully they’ve decided to waste their time by making a totem pole in the middle of the room. This is a little more ambiguous than the other statues, but you can probably guess what it wants. We’ll have to down the boss here to pass. Alright, now we can take care of our mission on North Beach. And here’s another returning foe from the first game, the Ignis. It’s still annoying, but not nearly as rough to deal with as it was back in RF1. It mostly just dashes around and leaves some fire in its wake. They also drop Magic Crystals, which you might remember being required for a lot of the powerful Staffs. With some careful fire dodging, the Death Stalkers went down pretty quickly. They aren’t very threatening, they just kinda melee at you. And the statue gives up its prize. That’s quite a few of those fragments now. Our reward is the Dense Overgrowth, a pretty little area with our first Orange tree in it. You can’t grow these, so it’s worth it to try and make runs here daily if you want to stock up. You will have to contend with the Giant Beetle, though. It’s on the right there, doing a flying charge. That’s something to watch out for, but otherwise the usual circle strafing makes it a pretty simple foe, even in melee range. As shown here. Level Ups refill your HP too, so this should carry Anna through the rest of the dungeon, especially since there’s not much left. The Southwest Beach is infested with Fire Monsters. There’s not too much else to say about it, most of Blessia Island is honestly pretty simple. The West Beach is sort of the same story. But with more BLOOD PANTHER. Also oranges. Does that make them Blood Oranges? Is that how that works? Please help me, I know nothing about agriculture aside from in this video game. (and even then, not much.) We can finish off our map of Blessia Island with the Cliff Top. It’s been a long journey, but we’ve got the whole place covered now. This is just the other side of that illegible statue from earlier. And that’ll do it for now. Next time, we’ll see what’s up around town, and maybe gear up a bit before taking on this dungeon’s boss. See you then. Wait, Beetle? What Beetle? gently caress New Monsters: Death Stalker Ignis Blood Panther Tortoise Giant Beetle

Since your only options are Roy, Orlando and Leonel... Anyway, I like Orlando and Leonel. Don't like Roy. At all. He's okay as a kid character and as a villager but do not like him as a potential love interest. His hair is strange.

Glazius posted:Man. That is one unpleasant elf. It's bizarre after the only adult elf in RF1 was super nice and helpful and generally one of the more pleasant characters, but the influence of Jake corrupts all things. I'm noting these names, but the next session might take a bit to get done. Sorry about the delays.
