It's more like a MLM scheme. Huge amounts of player-owned assets bought during the early access phase with the expectation of being able to on-sell them on release to the expected incoming players who would then need them, except of course the only people ever interested were those sinking hundreds if not thousands of dollars into cyber-squatting.

There's maybe one other fight accessed through WM1 that's comparable to fighting one of those. The cheese trick to defeating dragons is that they're still vulnerable to Charm/Dominate, which means they can handle killing all the other adds for you, after which you can just use Mental Binding to keep the dragon on lockdown while you plink away through its super high armor (use 2H weapons!). The other key is being able to live through the initial burst, especially the breath attack. Have a backliner (Mage/Ranger/Cipher) keep scrolls of healing and resurrection.

You also haven't even mentioned the most difficult dragon fight in the game :v:

This is part of it. Some other notable parts;

  • Not really a game in there. It's got systems and mechanics and you can walk around and fight things and some of your other typical MMO stuff. But none of it goes anywhere, or has any sort of point. It's also all incredibly out of time, like a very bad late 90s/early 2000s RPG.
  • 85% of the game is Unity store assets.
  • Garriot sold vials of his blood as fundraising at one point.

I actually backed Shroud of Avatar for something like 10bux when it first came to Kickstarter. Did it on the off-chance they might make a cool Ultima Online clone... Oh well.

Albion Online might be closer to success on that front but haven't actually looked into it. Has anyone tried it out? It also just came out and at least has a "Mostly Positive" rating so maybe it's not a garbage fire.

Surprise! Also a garbage fire. Extremely P2W (to the extent which all of the stuff you buy with real money can be lost is P2W), lovely devs with absurd ideas about balance, PvP and community handling, and a really abysmal sense of time investment with regards to effort:fun ratio. It's a UO successor in that it's top down, a gankbox and is basically already dead. It's been launched for months off Steam, this is basically a last ditch save attempt.

I just started using one of those Xbox Windows Controllers (basically Xbox One without the One branding) which is a good controller but for some reason Steam keeps popping up this weird keyboard overlay randomly and minimizing whatever game I'm playing. But I'm not in Big Picture mode and I've never once configured a controller specifically inside of Steam and this doesn't happen with any other controllers. What the hell is Steam doing?

I can stop it from happening by adding the -NoKeyboardUI launch option for every game I play but is that really the only way to prevent this bizarre and loving useless thing from appearing?

Yonder is a great open-world RPG with no direct conflict -- it's all about exploring, gathering, crafting, trading, questing, and finding secrets, with a dash of farming. I liked it a lot, and C-- loves it; she is now on her third play-through, with two at 99.6% completion or so, and excitedly bought it for the Switch so that she could play if I was playing a different game on the TV. It's a relaxing, engaging game -- unless you're expecting more from it than it is, I guess.

If that sounds like your jam, then it most likely is.

Fanatical has links to the Steam store page of every game, so you can check them out quickly.

For me, it's a handful of games that look interesting but fell through the cracks for whatever reason. Stuff you wouldn't buy on its own even during sales, but for a dollar a piece ok why not.
Technomancer is a Eurojank RPG and the followup to Mars: War Logs
Signal From Tölva is exploring an open world with robots and I'm looking forward to it
The Swindle looks like Mark of the Ninja, but about thieves and heists
ICY looks like Banner Saga but with guns and more frost
Zenith is a humorous action RPG I never heard about, but the pictures make it look interesting enough
Dumping the stuff you don't want on steamgifts is also weirdly satisfying :unsmith:

Oh my god, I thought this game was abandoned -

quote:

Why Am I Dead At Sea has just been updated with a newer version aiming to solve some of the more prominent issues in the game, and smooth out some of the gameplay with quality of life changes!

Full change-log:
The game's language can now be changed in-game within the menu - just select English or Russian at any point in the new "Languages" tab! You may have to enter/leave a save file, or at worst restart the game, for these changes to take effect.
Collision has been reworked, adding smooth movement when walking into corner tiles. No more getting snagged on one pixel of a wall!
With the collision rework, you can now go near Gwen's axe or the pillow in Xu's room without being launched out of the playable area
Made collision around some of the stairs more forgiving, so NPCs don't get stuck in them (still monitoring this to make sure other related issues don't emerge)

When the user selects a new resolution, a confirmation message pops up that the user has to respond to, otherwise the game will revert to the original resolution.
For those that have resolutions that aren't in the settings list, or for whom the resolutions are a bit off, a "Detect ideal resolution" option has been added to settings which should set the game to the size of the user's current resolution.
Full screen buttons are now accessible by controller/keyboard

A couple of small visual issues have been fixed - for example, while Xu is following you and cannot be interacted with, a speech bubble does not appear.
Some longstanding typos have finally been fixed
Fixed minor issues with Darryl/Alton mindreading
Fixed issues with observation window / outside scenery not displaying properly when the time of day transitions
Changed Quella's theme in chapter 3 temporarily to remove probably the most jarring/out of place musical transition in the game. Her theme will go back to normal after a certain point
Made it so you can't keep looping through a critical piece of dialogue with Xu in chapter 4 over and over
Made it so a certain important dialogue option with Marcurio doesn't appear until certain criteria have been met

In my opinion, The Swindle is good enough to get that bundle for.

It has an interesting mechanic of having to rob enough places on 100 days to do the one big heist at the end. Everything is randomly generated but it does feel very well fleshed out. I loved every second of it, well worth 5 bucks.

10. Party Hard

I once lived in an apartment building with a downstairs neighbour who would play loud music despite visits from the cops and landlord. Although it was a pretty frustrating experience, I'm fairly certain that at no time did I: stab him, poison his food, set off explosives in his vicinity, frighten a horse into fatally kicking him, lure him into a gigantic bear trap, or put him in the path of an oncoming vehicle. Had I been the protagonist of Party Hard, however, all of those options would have been on the table.

Party Hard is a top-down game in a genre I've heard being called "stealth action." It's less about skulking in shadows waiting half an hour for a guard to patrol by and more about bobbing and weaving around your enemies without getting caught. You control Darius, a man driven to the edge by noisy neighbours and has chosen to solve this problem in the stabbiest, explodiest manner possible. The objectives are often nuanced and varied. For example, in the first mission your objective is KILL THEM ALL. However, later on at a frathouse you're given the objective KILL THEM ALL. In a neat twist though, when you and your knife arrive at a beach party your objective is to KILL THEM ALL.

Okay, so the story doesn't have a lot of depth but the gameplay does provide a lot of interest. When you arrive, you have your trusty knife of course, but there are also a couple of accidents-waiting-to-happen that you can use to discretely get rid of partygoers: some levels will have a horse hanging around, who you can startle into fatally kicking whoever is behind them. You can throw people off of roofs, shove them into fans, poison the punch bowl, set off a motorized cart, and one level even lets you lure people into a deadly lumber processing device. You also have the option of using the phone, although this seems to have a different effect depending on the level you're in. In some levels, it will just spawn more partgoers, increasing the amount of people you need to kill by a dozen or so. However, in a different level it brought in a helpful chainsaw lunatic who eviscerated numerous guests before being hauled in by the cops. In other levels there were zombies and partygoer-abducting aliens and so on. You will also occasionally get help from a mysterious man in black who will sell you items like stun bombs or poison.

The rest of the folks you'll need to whittle off one by one with your knife. In doing this, you need to be a good judge of people's line of sight and distance. If someone sees you commit a murder - or standing in the vicinity of a stabbing victim - they will call the police. You can outrun the police but if they catch you, it's time to start over. You can kill police but it's generally unwise as a stronger cop will simply be sent out in his place. Bouncers are prevalent and will murder you if you get too close. In some levels, federal agents will also scour the level for you and they can only be killed with traps. I guess the government gives them knife-proof suits or something.

That's about all there is to say about Party Hard - it's not complex and if the idea of a stealth game with an inventive twist appeals to you then you should certainly give it a try. Also if you've been looking for an excuse to let your inner slasher out. It's already pretty cheap but you can wait for a sale if you're unsure...there's also DLC with additional levels. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the soundtrack is great and although the game doesn't wear out its welcome, it does have a lot of replay value in the way of additional playable characters.
