Will I need to get five gears in every side activity in Just Cause 3 to unlock all the upgrades or can I settle for three or four gears on some of them?

Huh? The weightlessness of the movement is the main thing that turned me off about it. Yes, it's very tight - it's way too tight. There's no momentum at all to any of your movements. You can change direction mid-air, you have to keep holding down forward when you jump to move forward through the air, that's exactly what weightless means in this context. I posted about it earlier in this thread and the consensus seemed to be that some people hate that kind of movement and some people hate anything except that kind of movement, but it's absolutely true about this game.

I don't agree about the bosses but that's subjective I guess, and the map seller was most often placed near the boss fight itself. I would book it to the boss to find him then go back and explore the level afterward when I played.

If you prefer games with a jumping system where as soon as your feet leave the ground you are committed to an unchanging trajectory and speed, then that is fine. But Hollow Knight needs the kind of fine control it gives you when jumping for many of the platforming and fighting sections. If you tried to put the kind of jumping you're talking about into the game without changing other aspects such as the platforming and enemy encounters to accommodate that, then the game would be very different and much worse IMO. To the point where I'm not sure how you can say you like the game but not the jumping/movement, since the two are so inextricably tied together.

Has anyone else had a problem with Prey opening with the overlay in big picture mode? None of the other games I have installed do this. It wouldn't bother me since I don't use the overlay super often but it makes the friend toasts bigger and for some reason the FPS counter doesn't work.

I wonder how often it happens that the majority of a given game's sales are not from Steam. Anecdotally, I buy the majority of my games during non-Steam sale periods from third-party sites like Humble, Bundle Stars, GMG, etc. because their prices tend to be better. However, I would have thought that the majority of sales over a game's lifespan come from Steam within the first few weeks before the third-party sites get a chance to offer steeper discounts.

I am very near the end of Prey and I just finished out the last of the three skill trees you start with without putting any points in the others you unlock partway through. I was fabricating neuromods like mad though. If I had to guess I would say I've made like 40 or so, maybe more. My recommendation though is to pick some skills and stick to those especially if you don't really explore or finish side quests in these types of games. Spreading yourself too thin just makes things harder.

Can anyone who played the Original Sin 2 EA thing comment on the QoL improvements (if any) made over OS1? I'm playing through the first right now and it is a good game but it is hard to enjoy sometimes. I'm talking about things like knowing when a key/quest item has served its purpose and is now useless, improving the usability of bags, adding a junk tab in the inventory, MAKING THE CHARACTERS RUN FASTER, being able to click on the map and move the camera to that position, etc.

I asked about this sometime back when Original Sin 2 was still in EA, but I am still interested in hearing about quality of life improvements (if any) made over OS1. I put the first on hiatus recently after being annoyed one too many times in a short period. It's good game but it is hard to enjoy sometimes. I'm talking about things like knowing when a key/quest item has served its purpose and is now useless, improving the usability of bags, adding a junk tab in the inventory, MAKING THE CHARACTERS RUN FASTER, being able to click on the map and move the camera to that position, allowing respecs without having to re-buy all skills over again, etc.

Regarding the Steam vs. uPlay vs. Origin vs. GOG etc. chat, I have no particular affinity for Steam or Valve, that just happens to be where the vast vast majority of my games are. If there was some kind of combined games library app that would show and let me download/install everything I own everywhere I would be way more open to buy things on other stores. Too bad that will never happen.

Blattdorf posted:

Way too many games take their sweet time to actually let you play the game. It's one thing if it has to load during the logos, but most often it's just a waste of time.

One of the first things I do when I install a new game is check PCGamingWiki to see if (among other things) there is a way to remove the publisher/developer/middleware screens.

I think as long as you know from the outset that you are not going to be able to do raid content and the harder versions of the strikes where coordination with other players is needed and you just want to run around, shoot things, do quests, and find gun/gear upgrades, you can have some fun with it.

Despite not having any particular affinity for 4X games, I have a handful of them in my library through bundles and Steam Gifts giveaways. Keeping in mind that my only experience with the genre has been some Civ 4 and 5, which of the following should I play if I happen to have a hankering for this particular type of game?

Endless Legend
Endless Space
Galactic Civilizations III
Stellaris

All things being equal I would prefer any of the science fiction ones to the fantasy one but I wouldn't let that hold me back if it is the best of the pack.

Yeah Activision keeps their old games at ridiculous prices so even during sales the price is too high. I've had Prototype 2 in my wishlist since July 11 2015 and every sale it is 75% off for $10 and every sale I never buy it because that is too much.

How is Fallout 4 if I was mainly interested in getting lost in exploring a game?

I will say that personally I think the explore/combat/scavenge loop in FO4 is probably the best that Bethesda has ever done. However, the story is not great and the changes to the dialogue system, including the incredibly vague choices you get to pick from, the lack of reactivity to in-game events, and the fact that usually you are railroaded in important dialogue to basically doing whatever it is that the developers wanted you to do really bring that part of the game down a huge amount. If you just want to gently caress around and explore then I say go for it, but basically never go inside the Museum of Freedom in Concord.

Do you have any info on the Deathwing relaunch? I can't find anything on it. I was always a hair's breadth away from buying it on the strength of the atmosphere alone but the fact that it just wasn't very good put me off, so I am very interested if they are retooling it.

Rage 2 looks neat but I will wait to get excited until a longer gameplay video is released. As many others have said if they do Doom 2016 shooting with Mad Max car combat that would really be something.

As for other games, Space Hulk Deathwing's Enhanced Edition is coming soon. Were any of that game's problems fixable through updates? I think the highlights of the EE are a new character class, the ability the customize your character, and randomized quests (maybe in multiplayer only). Will it still be bad, just polished a little more?
