It was probably inspired by Trump but it was more like "A lot of people just want to be told what they want to hear instead of actually voting for their best interest." which isn't something Trump invented.

Don't go back and watch old episodes of Law and Order SVU unless you enjoy a barrage of T slurs and general transphobia. The handling of male victims is also really terrible. But weirdly enough there were a lot more Asian actors roaming around. I guess they didn't find that necessary after they got BD Wong's fine rear end on the show.

Cradle to the Grape posted:Yeah I recently rewatched some old episodes of SVU and this really stuck out. It was jarring how they were overall surprisingly respectful towards gay characters considering when those episodes were made, then would turn around and call trans characters by the wrong name/gender and casually drop slurs at them like it’s nothing. I didn’t remember any of that stuff, probably because I was a dumb kid when I first watched the show and was only barely aware of trans people at all. My jaw hit the floor when I first heard the word "tranny" casually said by Olivia Benson. It's jarring when you know that's literally how trans women are still treated by police today while trans sexworkers are the most endangered people out on the streetsh. Plus munch's misogynist ex wife talk that we are supposed to find endearing and not horrifyingly off putting.

If the show had been from Skyler's perspective I imagine that the reaction would've been the reverse as we see her trying to get ahold of her husband multiple times over and over throughout the day and getting more frazzled as he starts getting more and more closed off from her as well. Walt was terrible and there is no possible way to justify hating Skyler for responding to his shittiness. She did smoke during her pregnancy though which ain't good but lol her husband is literally an emotionally distant, drug dealer who really doesn't give a poo poo about her or her son's well being as long as he gets RESPECT. Woke Lena Dunham forgot that POCs very much live in New York and that they don't even have to be filthy poors! Maybe she was just preemptively getting revenge on that meanie, fit, rich black jock who was too busy with his phone to gently caress her.

I loved Fresh Prince of Belair's live audience. They genuinely seemed to laugh and were shook and silent whenever there was a serious scene. It helped that most of the cast were charming and all around good actors. It's weird but this goddamn sitcom obviously prepped Will Smith for his later serious roles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI4Mv8R0mE0 Like at 3.56 you can hear a woman audibly gasp and cry. drat I love Fresh Prince.

Yeah the sad thing about the aunt Viv thing is that the original actress was this regal as gently caress, dark skinned lady, which was really cool. And then they replaced her with this light skinned lady with much less presence. She has alleges that Will Smith on the reg and continuously mocked her skin color in front of the audience before tapings. But she also has a reputation for being very difficult. El Gallinero Gros posted:From what I've seen Roseanne strikes me as somebody who is swayed by strongly worded arguments. I think in the early 90's when her show was fighting for gay rights, THAT was one of the most strongly worded arguments going on in society: Gay folks deserve equality, let them marry, don't treat them like deviants, etc. Now that they have a modicum of the things they fought for, Roseanne probably wants to move on the next thing, hoping she'll be on the right side of history again. But this time she's backing BeCheeto Mussolini. So whenever you talk about Roseanne or Will Smith I will always be way to biased. But Roseanne's life has been a big existential mess. Compared to what she's been through she is somewhat ok? She also called out Louis CK over a year ago so there must still be some of that old justice driven Roseanne in there. I like to think that the bad stuff is just brain damage but man do cool people show themselves to be less and less cool. Anyway, speaking of great meta replacement of actors moments, my favorite thing so far about the upcoming reunion (except for John Goodman in anything) is that both Beckies are going to be starring. Sarah Chalke is playing another role but I expect a lot of "two/old and new Becky jokes. And in the vein of things that didn't age well Sarah Chalke's hair was super fried but I like to think that it's on purpose because the family was poor so she couldn't afford proper haircare.

SVU is obviously a really messed up show in subject matter, but it's pretty pro-victim generally, with Mariska Hargitay becoming a real life activist for abuse victims, Criminal Intent has the irritating/compelling "detective who is troubled but brilliant" thing but that's a trope that will take a while to go away.
