Eclipse12 posted:Face Off was great, especially early on, but you're right about them pushing too hard with it. There are only so many makeup artists to use as contestants so I feel after awhile the quality began to drop. That, and they tended to overuse challenges involving aliens, monsters, and "evil" versions of normal things. Make a sinister Hansel and Gretel! Next, make a spooky Cinderella! Take a candy and make it... a monster! Season after season, it eventually got stale. These types of makeups give the contestants lots to work with and look impressive, but I can only see so many "This is an alien from an aquatic world!" before I just don't care anymore. One dude who left the show under what I'll refer to as "circumstances", made a movie called "Frankenfake" about his "experiences" on the show, it's a fascinating piece of work, that I've never been able to find online.

Toshimo posted:On point for the thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCk6DrVJpYM I liked this film as a dumb teenager, when it was released in the UK as "Politically Correct Party Animals", and I love this film now, because the DVD commentary is just Jeremy Piven complaining that the writers/director/producers hired him, but refused to let him do any improv. He's SO mad about it, and they put it on the DVD any way, it's just the best worst thing.

docbeard posted:There's an epsiode of Spaced (which was just about contemporaneous with League of Gentlemen I think) that's extremely uncomfortable now, in that it's not even just incidental transphobic humor but the entire plot resolves with the protagonist attacking a trans woman in a fit of rage (who is in fairness being completely horrible to another character, but that's not really why it happens). I think this is the episode "Art", but the plot of the episode is about a Job interview and an art opening, and also one of the characters being out of his mind on cheap speed and Resident Evil games. The character you're talking about isn't a Trans Woman, they're based on / directly parody Leigh Bowery, but Brian refers to them as non-binary, not that it excuses violence. I rewatched the episode to be sure, and while I don't think you remember the plot correctly, you may have done it to black out the surprisingly large number of T-Bombs they drop.

Jedit posted:It's possible that the UK got a different edit. It was definitely there on my first release DVD the last time I watched it, because I watched it with friends and had to ask them to leave the room while I FFed to the right place. Unfortunately I can't confirm this for you now, as I donated the disc to charity a couple of years ago. I don't have the VHS, but I've the first UK DVD release, and the intro doesn't have the "Outside" reveal on it. I've watched the Directors Cut more in the last few years, so that voice-over is really jarring. BooDooBoo has a new favorite as of 18:08 on Sep 8, 2021 |

Doesn’t mess up continuity, but sandboxes S31 to pre-2402 at least. I was hoping it was going to be a prequel, but set around TMP time, just wanna see more of that vibe.
