I've enjoyed watching this show mindlessly but does this season just seem extra corny? It's like they're trying to force everything and make it relate to the election and it's coming off more campy than usual. I'm wondering if I'm the only one feeling this way.

Oh God yes.

I couldn't tell at first what angle they were even going for; I thought the show was playing some of it straight.

By about the fifteen minute mark, I got the utter impression this season is more of a black comedy. They have their tongue so far into their cheek it might burst through and seem to be taking the utter piss out of all sides, from the far right facebook / fake youtuber psycho to the far left twitter whiner that voted 3rd party then starts sobbing on the street when the wrong candidate wins.

Adding Billy Eichner to the cast this season was genius.

I couldn't stop laughing at the reveal that he owns Nicole Kidman's gun from Cold Mountain.

I'd like to believe they're Craig from Parks & Rec and Mary Cherry from Popular. It's plausible.

Yeah. I prefer it this way though, at least it's more entertaining.

It's weird that the last season seems to pull a lot of the plot threads from the previous seasons together and make the AHS universe feel more coherent, this one feels really detached from the 'overlapping universe' thing, aside from Twisty the CLown just running around for some reason. I've always liked the show fro it's 'screw it, throw everything at the wall see what sticks' approach, which has had wonderfully, campy, over the top and sometimes creepy moments, so this feels a bit quiet so far in comparison. I did like episode 2 a lot more, so maybe it'll pick up steam.

I liked FreakShow because the characters were all pretty likable. Hotel was silly fun with Dennis O'Hare playing one of this best roles in the series, Lady Gaga roaming around as 'Lady Gaga but a vampire', Angela Basset going full Foxy Brown and whatever accent it was that Evan Peters was going for, and ignoring the police storyline. Roanoke was one of the best the show has done, with it actually having a creepy atmosphere and the meta tv show within a show stuff, so Cult has a hard act to follow.

Dennis O'Hare was hilariously slimy in that role. He's one of the best things in the franchise. AHS is massively hit and miss, even within each season, but most of them have enough things which are interesting to balance out the bad bits.

It's an anthology show, so you should expect them to vary the tone and storytelling as well as the plot.
Roanoke also had a lot of humor between all the gore, especially with satirizing the TV medium and reality TV, it was shot like a reality show and also contained a lot of commentary on modern horror with excessive gore and found footage, and in general it was very unlike the other seasons.
This year they go with black comedy poking fun at political stereotypes, mixed with psychological thriller.

I hope the next seasons experiment even more. It could have been cool to see them do a season completely straight faced and dark, full on horror comedy, "slasher" or even a Phantom of the Paradise-ish horror musical. As long as it's competently done.

This season's twist is going to be that all of the murders and events will somehow culminate in to Bernie Sanders still winning the presidency.

The twist will be at the end when Ally wakes up, the entire season having been night terror. She'll feel better until she turns on the TV that morning and finds no really Trump was elected president. The twist is we all live in a nightmare world now

Asylum & Murderhouse were the only seasons of this show that I liked..... Should I give Cult a chance? I like cults in shows in general, so I figure I might like it. But at the same time, the other AHS seasons were so garbage and I don't know if I should use my previous viewing time on this show again

We don't know how the title relates to the season yet. Thus far the closest thing to a cult that's appeared is 3-4 people in clown masks.

At the moment I'd say you could probably skip it, but AHS can also be a very unpredictable show and it is pretty early in the season so

This episode was so hilarious. Lesbian George Zimmerman lol! I couldn't stop laughing the entire time. I do not know how these actors are keeping straight faces. Also cookie therapy from the first episode lol!

This is making fun of the alt left and the alt right in glorious fashion and it's long overdue.

Although they should probably rename it American comedy show at this point.

A pretty creepy episode, detective person is with the neighbors and the psychologist is either a red herring or a huge key to this story. I love the paranoid tone of this season and how they haven't shown anything yet for them to try to fight against.

It's really different from last season of "yo were ghosts, gonna kill ya".

American Horror Story: I don't have the buffering capacity to handle this.

Evan Peters making crowds disperse like some blue-haired Jesus.

Pinky-swear scenes are like Scientology auditing without ridiculous jargon.

Good balance between hilarious, chilling and narratively consistent.

Yeah, still liking this season.

There are two factions, right? There's the Kai's Kult lot, who want people to push past their fears and seem to want to recruit Ally, and then there's the serial killing clown faction. That's what I figure, anyway.

Are people watching a different show, because there are basically zero horror elements as far as I can tell. If it weren't for the melodramatic music, this would be a bad episode of Modern Family.

Are there pets being microwaved to death and the occasional murder in Modern Family? There's nothing supernatural in this season, but there are some horrific events.
