Having hundreds of hours of playtime but being unwilling to say you enjoy it or would recommend it to others is that point. Just like your opinion holds less weight to others when you haven't taken in the whole experience, the same is true when you've taken it in 20 times, for better or worse. Speaking of which, I just beat the second Divine Beast in BOTW. People have gone directly to Hyrule Castle from the beginning, right? Maybe I should just see if I can end this

Not that its necessarily the case in those pics, but often games that people tend to dump lots of hours into are ones that are continuously updated and sometime they change the game in a way that people dislike. Or they don't change them enough over a long period of time. Or sometimes people just sour on a game they used to enjoy. What I'm saying is my 1000 hour negative review of dota2 is legit.

I think that it's fine to do this as long as you're able to express that you used to enjoy it and then your opinion changed for real, actual reasons- which 99% of these people do not have the two brain cells to rub together in order to do. homeless snail posted:I'm half joking, 4000 is kinda ridiculous, but I've seen a lot of posts here and other places about people that play a game for 40-100 hours and end up coming away from it negatively and that's just incredibly lovely IMO. A well considered review from someone that allowed themselves to become invested with a game and fully engage with it is always gonna be more valuable than a drive by from someone that had an emotional reaction to a game they played one afternoon but has no understanding of it. sometimes it takes dozens of hours to cut through the subjectivity of experiencing a game to get objective distance from it and form a coherent opinion, and sometimes that opinion is "well I liked it but its a bad game ultimately" That's fair.

This is why I stopped playing ff14. The whole time I was like "drat this is fun but I sure do wish I could play it completely solo" while occasionally playing with that friend I mentioned I signed up with... and then I got to the part where the game starts forcing co-op dungeons on you and I was like nahhhh no thanksss

I don't think it's unreasonable to play a lot of a thing but not be able to recommend it to others. Games seem set up to be physiologically rewarding in ways that few other forms of media are, namely by rewarding repetitive behavior. So you might spend a lot of time playing something that's boring and bad, but it also keeps hitting the buttons in the lizard part of your brain to keep you from stopping.

i enjoy playing tales of symphonia and will probably replay it in the future because for all of its issues it's pretty decent at clicking buttons with character progression and combat, but i wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone in 2017 cause it's dated as gently caress and the story is a trainwreck and there are infinitely better action jrpgs to spend your money on now. basically steam needs to let you give a game no thumbs while still reviewing it so it doesn't look like you're calling it a pile of garbage when you're just saying it might not necessarily be the best game to drop money on

I mean, people don't review books or movies until they actually finish them. I think there are two kinds of "review" we're talking about here. "I got bored after 2 hours, not recommended" isn't a review of a game, it's a review of a 2 hour span of time.
