I also enjoy some the anime on this list.
I was turned off of Escaflowne as soon as the dude sprouted angel wings because that was stupid. Also it was kind of boring.

the first 60-some episodes are the best shonen anime ever made, with a plot that actually progresses and fun characters and insane situations that are solved by card games. unfortunately then the writer got arrested for being in a cult or something and they decided to just make the next 100 episodes constant tournament arcs, and also aki got turned into a race girl even though she was an insane badass esper, which was really weird. also crow sucks.
