the first real nerd project I took on was a custom mech builder for tabletop battletech in hypercard that would do all the calculations for weight, heat sinks and armor distribution [only scrubs used stock mechs]

when we needed to research in elementary school we either went to the library or broke out the Encarta CDs in the computer lab

i think all we did was make the computer say rear end over and over

I took a physics class with numerical simulation projects and submitted them all as hypertalk scripts. the alternative was BASIC and I still believe it was the right choice today

mtropolis was the best follow up to hypercard because it was object oriented so you could do cool things with inheritance and stuff but the people who made it were bad at software and we ended up with shockwave/flash and their horrible absolute timelines
