Is messing with Ame-no-habikiri not worth it even with Land Slash?

Would it be possible to put katana mastery or something on a grimoire to allow katana access? I'm assuming doing so would require a Ronin/katana user in the party already to generate such a skill so it isn't a solution. "Open the box with the crowbar inside"

Omobono posted:Would it be possible to put katana mastery or something on a grimoire to allow katana access? You don't have to. You get provided a Ronin Grimoire from a secret area chest so you can equip a katana that way. However, the equipment bonus part doesn't really get abused on DPS classes as using a katana on a Highlander would lock him out of his spear skills. And same goes for all the other classes and their weapon skills. So unfortunately they're only really good on support classes who don't usually get placed under those equipment restrictions and can reap the benefits of equipment bonuses more easily. Of course if you fused that Ronin Grimoire away, yeah you're poo poo out of luck unless you get lucky with Streetpasses and uh, good luck triggering those nowadays! Seraphic Neoman posted:Is messing with Ame-no-habikiri not worth it even with Land Slash? Weapon ATK is a considerably part of the damage formula, but STR has much bigger weight. So it'll be a boost, but the other reason I didn't really make use of it was that locking Dude out of Highlander skills wasn't too appealing as Land Slash spam would destroy his TP pool instantly. Though for those curious, with Dude's current stats (44 STR), here's how much damage he'd deal with an unboosted Land Slash against Alraune who has 52 VIT. With the Pylon Spear which has 151 ATK, it deals a total of 648.622585 damage. With the Wyvern Spear which has 218 ATK, it deals a total of 957.133282 damage. With the Ameno Habikiriwhich has 255 ATK, it deals a total of 1129.57137 damage. A very considerable boost all things considered. Just that being locked out of Highlander skills and insta wiping my TP pool was not an attractive prospect for me at the time.

I see. That's unfortunate. I actually kinda like the idea that you can use the bragging rights reward "early" but then they hosed it by forcing you to only get it with the story party.

I mean, if you can actually use it it's not a bragging rights reward, it's just a regular reward.

Story Update 29 The suffering begins. Aside from that, probably my favorite floor in the entire game, if not the entire series. Which is pretty impressive given how hot garbage the original version of the floor was! If you wanna know how bad it was, just read these two updates. This floor got a massive glowup from the original, I actually really like it! I might harp on this game a fair amount but boy is the labyrinth way better designed.

Arthur's "It's all thanks to me" is probably meant to show him as arrogant and cocky...but goddamn he's not wrong. Also I guess the game over screen will just be a regular part of this LP now.

EO1's postgame difficulty came from the labyrinth itself. EOU's comes from dancing in the dark.

There's a typo in the Storm Clone's learnable skills section - both Volt Torrents say they deal ice damage instead of volt damage.

Next up on cut content, the Forest Folk. Strap yourselves in, cause this is a big one! This first bit takes place during the 3rd Stratum mission to discover what these Forest Folk are. Following the first meeting with Kupala, there were in-between encounters cut out where you would encounter more of the Forest Folk. quote:-- ID 50 -- These encounter were also in Story Mode as well: quote:-- ID 210 -- Now the Annihilate the Forest Folk mission is where things get more interesting. In EO1 and the final version of Classic Mode in EOU, you were locked into doing this mission, and the only way to not commit genocide was to turn off the game and never play it again. That was not always the case for EOU's version of Classic mode. In fact, the mission text highly suggested that at some point you were able to go off the rails and not do the mission. The first point of interest here is Quinn's mission dialogue: quote:-- ID 0 -- I'm not sure how this was intended to be triggered, but he had a different introduction that's similar to the one in story (but this isn't Story's version, as Story has its own section it pulls from.) The original mission text you see in the final game is right next to this one, so it seems like while they never intended to cut you being able to wipe out the forest folk entirely, they were able to let you go off the rails somehow. After you encountered Kupala on B17F, you had to report back to the Radha. Quinn had some different things he could say on this supposed route. quote:-- ID 71 -- His initial text, which just cuts out a lot of what's said in the version you see. You meet with Visil afterwards, but there are no differences there. Now your conversation with Quinn afterwards is where things really get interesting. quote:-- ID 74 -- Yeah. At some point you could actually plan to negotiate with the forest folk instead of going full extermination mode. Granted I don't know if Quinn would have given you the letter if you answered peace wasn't possible. Though this doesn't mean you avoid conflict altogether. quote:-- ID 111 -- As Kupala stomps on your negotiation attempts as you were still killing Forest Folk on the way down to B20F. Though the aftermath of the Iwaoropenelep fight could potentially go another way. quote:-- ID 130 -- quote:-- ID 150 -- As your guild could rescue Kupala, and then unlock her as a guildmaster in Classic. Sadly this was all unimplemented. Quinn had 3 different mission accomplished lines depending on how the mission turned out. One of them was for if you opted to stay on the rails and slaughter all the forest folk, which is what you're stuck doing in the final game. However there were 2 unimplemented deviations you could take, but I have no idea what exactly triggered these. quote:-- ID 10 -- quote:-- ID 12 -- Now what about Story mode? Unfortunately, there's not much of anything on that front. Or rather, most of it got scrubbed out and the text there is used in the final game. However they did miss few a spots. There's an unused conversation in the B16F text file that sheds quite a bit of light on things. quote:-- ID 370 -- There was a plot point raised that the forest folk were a defense mechanism for the Yggdrasil Core. Which got mostly scrubbed out of the final game, except M.I.K.E. mentions it when you talk to him after killing Gudanna. Whoops. There's also an untranslated conversation that is also quite telling. quote:-- ID 320 -- This untranslated conversation is the moment you were trying to hand Kuapala the letter in Story mode. Raquna attempts to hand it over and start negotiations, but Kupala rejects it. Unfortunately that's the only tidbit that survived, but that does shed some light on quite a few things. Story had the same Sandy Barrens plotline as Classic mode at some point. It was supposed to be a straight up clash rather than the whole disease justification, but you did attempt negotiations at some point. (None of this was in the original EO1. You just committed genocide no matter what in that game.) quote:-- ID 1100 -- There's also this unused text in the Yggdrasil Core battle that suggested you allied with them at some point, but we'll never know what really happened there. Oh and yeah, there's this full body portrait of Kupala you never really see. She wears that outfit normally once she's your guildmaster, but the top part is obscured by the hood and the in-game portraits cut off there.

Taking the other games into account, the Forest Folk being created by the Core was probably always a false lead - and MIKE was being deliberately misleading about that point to get the party to accept the genocide mission. Just about every Yggdrasil tree seems to have a demihuman race (or 3) engineered to care for it while the tree does its work. Visil was hoping that the adventurers would fail, but as their creator, he decided that the forest folk's lives were his to gamble with. Wheras MIKE's calculations were that they had outlived their usefulness because the tree was about to be destroyed anyway. Of course a certain character from 4 has the best response to those lines of reasoning.

quote:If you're wondering how I know it's going to phase, I don't mentally add up all the damage or anything during a fight, as that's just a lot of needless work. I just read the HP bars. And here are a few tips on how to read them properly, because there are some things that can get in the way of the infomation you can gleam from it. What I'm about to say applies to every game in the series, so this can really help with really gauging an enemy's HP. The first and most important thing to keep in mind is that the HP bar isn't actually proportional to the actual amount of health the enemy has. Because of this, you really shouldn't try to estimate how much HP a boss has left just going off of that, as eyeballing through that method can frequently lead you to overestimating or underestimating when a boss phases, and that can really throw your strategy off. The bar being half depleted doesn't mean the enemy is at 50% HP. In fact, it's quite the opposite, with a half depleted bar meaning they're considerably above that threshold. Also for that matter, you'd think the bar being right at the middle of the arrow means 50% HP as well, right? That's also not the case. Instead it means they're below that threshold, with the actual threshold for 50% HP being just to the right of the arrow. If the bar is red, that means they're at 25% HP or lower. From there, I'm sure you can work out ways to estimate proper HP thresholds. this is so stupid

Why are HP bars non-linear? Why the gently caress would you even program in non-linear bars? I swear
