Ghost Leviathan posted:

A lot of the duck comic lore surrounding Della and immediate duck family members is very vague, rare and questionably canon, with Disney clearly not intending for much to be done with those family members. (A lot of it goes back, I think, to the 40s/50s idea of having to get around morally acceptable ideas of how to portray parents and families; uncles and nephews have a ton more leeway as to how they're presented and what they can get up to, especially with romantic interests and behaviour, than parents who'd be expected to be portrayed as faithful, responsible and generally hella boring.

And as for the current spoiler topic, Rockerduck is a bit notable in that he is more popular in the European comics than the American ones, swapped with Glomgold. There's an old argument that since old money is more common than new money in Europe, and vice versa in the USA, and all. It also means that they almost never appear in the same story or even in the same series; and in the one exception where Rockerduck and Glomgold teamed up (I think in an anniversary/finale event with nearly everyone showing up) they work together well at first but Rockerduck is soon uncomfortable with Glomgold having absolutely no scruples.

Makes me wonder if at some point we're going to have an episode with all the billionaires pitted against each other; Scrooge, Glomgold, Mark Beaks and Rockerduck. And wondering if Goldie O'Gilt might qualify, though she's clearly better at picking her battles.
Goldie is Scrooge's secret weapon and helps him win. For a massive payoff

Has Donald's anger ever actually achieved anything? I haven't watched season one since it aired, but I recall finding his displays of anger kind of underwhelming there, and nothing stood out in season two or three after watching them over the past week or so either. It makes him feel kind of pointless compared to everyone else in the cast, at least on adventures, since Scrooge, Launchpad, Della, Ms Beakley and Webby are all really competent fighters, who contribute in combat regularly (at least, when they are there in Ms. Beakley's case), but despite the show constantly talking about how great Donald's anger is and how strong he is as a fighter when he's angry I don't recall him ever actually accomplishing anything when he's angry. Generally he gets steaming mad, runs at someone, makes a blurry circle as he spins around them for a few seconds and is then pushed away in some manner, before deflating and losing all threat. His role seems to be more as a good parent, but even that's kind of a obfuscated because Scrooge is generally a good parental figure as well as skilled fighter, and is along on pretty much every adventure. Donald just seems kind of redundant despite how much the show says he isn't.

COunterpoint. A: s1 against the Beagles at Funzo. B. s1 At the casino where his luck is utter poo poo, it's his pure rage that puts him ahead of that smug dick Gladstone. C. s1 Shadow War. Raging Donald with Don Cheadle Voice took down shadow gizmoduck.

Just give me a goddamned Manny spinoff. Perhaps with a group of likemind manhorses. And they live in an old Scottish Castle that is ontop of a Manhatten skyscraper.

God drat that finale was just the greatest, I can't get over it! I'm a huge fan of the Barks and Rosa comics but the way this show builds on those is so phenomenal. Della and Webby especially are too good for this to be it I really hope theses versions make it into the broader canon for good akd I'm so bummed I can't get a Della action figure yet.

We've been watching Tangled the series with my girls but I just orderee the first three volumes of IDW Ducktales comics and I'm gonna push to start this show next. I can't wait to watch it all over again.

Are the comics still ongoing? Any chance we can keep getting more stories that carry on beyond the finale??
