Oh my god, running through the worlds again to find the challenges and use Beepo's new abilities is such a loving slog.

I dunno why you can't just select challenges from a menu. I get the abilities/hidden chest things, not crazy about it but part of what they're doing is a "poking around the environment" game, but why do I have to manually run through the entire world to find the challenges I haven't done?

I'd at least like each chapter/map section to have a "This many chests are here" counter because tracking through an entire completed level for one or two chests is pretty groan inducing

You can select them from a menu, but not until you have manually run through that entire world and found them. Which was a really annoying choice.

Is there any reason to go back to a level and perfect it?

Also I'm getting really annoyed trying to make a Mario/Yoshi/Rabbid Mario team here at the start of 4-7; I just want to loving swap Rabbid Mario and Yoshi's starting positions, geez! That's the difference between boomdashing one buckler versus three!

Perfects will net you more skill orbs.

Starting positions are usually a moot point if you have Luigi on your team and activate Itchy Feet first thing, though that's still circumstantial.

As long as you find all the orbs in boxes and beat the secret stages, yes.

I find rabbid Mario and Yoshi difficult to use together because they both to a lot of close up some damage.

Yes, take two sentries (so R.Peach and Luigi) and spend all your money getting the best two.

The creative director deserves any kind of cross over at this point. If you can make Rabbids likable as characters you can probably use anything in a cross over and make it good

I forgot the DLC is happening. loving hyped as hell for that.

I think it would be interesting if they made Bowser Jr in his clown copter as a playable character. Do something where he has pretty ridiculous movement (since he's in a hover vehicle) but he can't do team stuff with the other characters. Or something.

I'd go for a NG+ where I can use the full roster from the start, a hard mode, or a full XCOM map randomized.

Or a XCOM Collab where Mario has to capture Rabbids alive for Vahlen to "study".

Eh, I'm not really sure about that. What makes XCOM replayable to me is the way you build up your troops over a campaign and how the RNG can force changes of plans, plus the permanence of a lot of your decisions. The randomness of the maps and enemies contribute to that, but not all of it.

Even if you had random geography and enemies, MRKB is much more deterministic in the actual combat -- lots of battles feel more like puzzles to me. I suppose the DLC with "a new unexpected story content" could change that up though.

what seals the deal is the other characters acknowledging how annoying they are. having them as a sort of nuisance chaotic neutral enemy was a good choice. mario rabbid is the best new character. what a braggart

This Bowser jr fight is kicking my rear end, the tactical overview is kind of deceptive when dealing with characters who are this large.

The mecha was a pain until I realized the secret is to not give his valkyries any cover close to him, you have to blow it up in the battle before. Since they refuse to stand without cover they don't approach and more importantly don't shield him. This gives you the chance to overwatch him to death in a turn or two. It took me several tries before acing it.

There were like 2 fights I used him on at some point, but otherwise I found basically no use for him. I also stopped using Rabbid Peach outright once Luigi joined my party. Rabbid Luigi's vamp ability was more than enough healing. Rabbid Yoshi just never had anything particularly great about him that made him worth using. I didn't want enemies to be pushed away from each other, I wanted them all bunched up

Finished the game yesterday and I can't believe how well Yoshi's guaranteed critical ability synergizes with his rumblebang, it's crazy.

Weakest characters are probably Rabbid Yoshi and Peach, I think. Rabbid Yoshi has a very weak dash and you rarely need to dash that many times, and his forced movement ability doesn't synergize with his weapons like Rabbid Mario's does. Peach is a shotgun-toting monster that has a lot of trouble closing distance and you can't use itchy feet on her. She's very good when you've got her in a good place but between her bad movement and her overwatch being extremely good at hitting friendlies she's very challenging to use well imo.

Peach is pretty much custom-made for escort missions. She keeps your toad fully healed if you're jumping off with Mario every turn, which lets you take more risks with the little dude such as leaving them in an advanced position with little cover. The 3rd man can then be a vanguard or protect your rear (why you'd ever protect your rear is beyond me though).

Really the only thing I could think to do with Rabbid Yoshi is using the Scream effect to trigger your overwatches, but even then that can still happen anyway.

Huh, I never thought to use her like that, but that's pretty clever! The siren song of Speedy Luigi was too great for me.

I never came across the instance where Luigi's speed boost was necessary for acing escort missions. Also being pretty frail I find him not so great at offensive advancing work. He's so much better when he can jump instantly between two sniper posts pelting away at enemies below. Honestly, if there isn't a good high-ground area for him on the map I don't bring him. I know he'd do fine (3x overwatch is so useful), but it allows me to try out other characters.

I think I just found out R. Yoshi's niche. I don't know how you guys did it, but so that I only had to re-do each world for challenges and collectibles, I went into them after finishing the main game. It was here I realized that R. Yoshi can clear out early maps in one turn, if you bring Luigi along. Those maps tend to be small, allowing him to dash EVERYONE (and since the enemies tend to have <100hp they die), those who can't reach he screams at unlocking the Mario Bros. x2 and x3 overwatches.

It's not much, but I've used him pretty steadily from World-1 through World 2, and no one clears those maps better than him.

You may argue that the AOE of R. Mario or Yoshi are just as effective, and maybe they are, but I never upgraded their moves because of friendly fire. The pin-point precision of a dash is way more useful and less costly on your health.

Looks like the first DLC wave surprise-launched. Does it have a lot of content? I understand Ubisoft's not had a good track record with DLC, but I enjoyed this game. If anyone here can confirm that there's a decent number of additional missions to do (I don't think anyone in this thread cares about the extra weapons) I'll take the plunge.

Looks like it’s a challenge pack. The secret stages in each world now have a challenge (or more?) and co-op has 5 new levels.

The final drop in January adds more story content, but you can only buy them both as a bundle; no a la carte. Breath of the Wild did the exact same poo poo. I guess this is how Switch DLC is gonna go. Which sucks for people like me who typically avoid “season pass” type stuff on Xbox and just pick and choose the parts of them that interest me.

Yeah, I realize the bigger one drops next year, but I was willing to spring now if the current DLC was good enough. It sounds like there's only 8 new challenges and 5 coop maps, though? That's... a pathetically small amount. Someone please report back on how meaty these 8 challenges are; I'd like to know if they're substantially long or if they're like... those 1 turn challenges.

Last few levels felt kind of rushed with the addition of Rabbid Wario, Wabbid Waluigi, Bowser but it felt good to wrap it up. I'll probably see how many challenges I can get through before Odyssey drops and then see what the story DLC looks like. I'd probably play a sequel.

I felt they were rushed a little but also a massive spike in difficulty compared to the preceding levels. Especially 4-8, where I just skated through the final part with rabbid Luigi trading vamp shots with the Lava Queen and dashing for four turns

Do the challenges in world 1. The game is balanced so that it assumes you do that. If you don't, world 2 will be considerably harder and if you go back and do the challenges, they'll be pretty brainlessly easy with very underwhelming rewards.
