Voting for Iceland first. It can be an easy rally point for your transports and you can stage long range bombers from it to be support, and it's a quick place to cycle units from back and forth to help reinforce faster.

Okay, probably a dumb question. It was late when I asked. In the bright light of day the plan seems much more insane and less practical so now I have to try it.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

December 24

I load up some units to start the invasion. I have four long-range transports ready to go.

Germany buys a new Heavy Cruiser.

End Turn

And I had finally gotten them below 100%. :(

Italy finally gets the aircraft carrier I bought a few years back. It needs some work before going to sea too.

Cheaper units maxed.

Income maxed.

And first time Germany breaks 1,600.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

February 4

Intel reveals another amphib further west.

The navy sinks one and a transport finds another past the fleet:

I have some subs on the way that can deal with it. That transport is loaded with tanks and needs to sink.

In Turkey I finally eliminate the Russian presence in the South and can move North:

In Russia my units mostly upgrade and reinforce. I spend the entire German budget on it but every unit on the front now has maximum Antiaircraft protection.

Italy buys another Spying and Intel chit and another Ground Attack Weapon chit.

End Turn

It is mine now very soon.

Better fighters and carrier aircraft.

Good.

And there it is.

Finally some good partisan activity. Soviet units in the area all take hits.

They were clearly swayed by the "not liking to be occupied by a foreign power" issue. Is no one focusing on tax reform or building more windmills or killing their uncle at the request of their father's ghost or whatever it is Danes do in their spare time?

Intel spots a pair of American battleships parked at Iceland for some reason.

In any case it will be at least May before the landings begin in the Americas.

March/April 1943
_____________________________________________________________________________________

March 18

Sweden has two armies, two corps, an HQ, a fighter, two heavy cruisers, a light cruiser, and two destroyers. I spent a lot of my money upgrading the whole thing. Then I am going to use the navy to hopefully purge the Soviet raiders and possibly even the whole Soviet Baltic navy.

Both Germany and Italy max out diplomatic efforts in Finland. I thought they should have joined by now. Maybe their support is too low.

In the Atlantic the fleet sinks five more amphibs (these ones short-ranged). Another blow to US morale. Again, no escorts spotted. All up in Iceland?

With artillery and air support the German tanks destroy a Soviet corps and cross the border:

The Russian front is quiet and dull as I spend what is left reinforcing units there. Germany cannot afford anything. Italy invests in another logistics chit.

End Turn

Nice.

Morale boost for Italian ships.

And more intel.

Good.

I am very disappointed in Japan right now.

I don't think this has any game effect.

Russians move a lot of reinforcements to the Turkish border. Signal intelligence shows that the Americans are loading more transports near D.C.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

April 19

The fleet spreads out. Next turn I will start looking for suitable landing zones. I need to capture a port quickly. I would prefer to attack the US first but not sure if that will be clear enough:

A Russian tank and corps are destroyed. The road to Baku is currently open:

Further south a single German corps takes Bandar Abbas, the last non-Axis location in Persia, and finds a British carrier parked there. They do minor damage to the carrier.

Kiev falls:

Troops march on Leningrad:

Italy buys an Advanced Tanks chit. Germany buys an Advanced Aircraft chit and a Long-Range aircraft chit.

Germany also lays down the last battleship they are allowed.

End Turn

Back down to 97%. At least they are getting a penalty again.

My subs start mining ports.

Good, maybe this will get them onside soon. I don't remember the exact requirements.

Good luck with that.

Still creeping upwards.

Bad news is that one amphib got through. I have American tanks about to land in Britain:

I hope it is just the one unit.

May - June 1943
_____________________________________________________________________________________

May 11

I pull some subs back to hit that amphib and hit it with my maritime bomber to weaken it. If it does not land the subs can finish it. I have an army on standby in the ocean to land to deal with it if necessary:

I sink one amphib that wandered near the Graf Zeppelin and close with the coast to find more loaded transports. Let us have some fun:

Sank four transports including one carrying General Eisenhower. I still have two more I can see. Prince Edward Island was one potential landing zone but it is a bit of a fortress. Yarmouth has Canadian tanks. New York appears to be empty. If it stay that way that is where I land:

Interestingly the UK got virtually all of Canada when the capital moved here. Ottawa is the capital of Canada and Toronto is the capital of the UK. Canada own Ottawa and two other hexes whose placement makes no sense to me? Mistake in coding and they were missed? Maybe you have to place Canadian units there? The transport off of Britain is just sitting there.

My tiny battle on Crete continues indecisively. The Aquila carrier is about ready to leave port.

The defenders of Baku are dead but I could not take the city. Half the oil fields are mine:

My tanks wipe out two units of rocket artillery that have been harassing me. Going to have a bit of trouble with those tank units:

Surround one unit in a fort and my tanks push east to Leningrad:

Germany buys back its Finland chit. Germany also lays down their last heavy cruiser, a destroyer, a fighter group, and an army.

Italy buys a tactical bomber group.

End Turn

C'mon, join me!!!!

Cheaper transport costs and another HQ.

Good.

Nothing but complaining.

American planes and an American carrier attack the fleet off the East Coast and sink an Italian heavy cruiser group and nearly a light cruiser group.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

June 2

Bombers and subs sink the tanks loitering near Britain.

A naval battle develops off of Washington. The carrier Bunker Hill and an American heavy cruiser group go down. The Ranger is in dock at Washington and is about to sink. Multiple amphib units are also sunk. A German HQ, a Spanish corps, and a German army land around New York. I have one more tank that will arrive next turn. That will be the end of my amphibs. The rest of the troops on the way need a port so have to get New York repaired. The Graf Zeppelin is undamaged but is almost out of planes. I moved some fighters in to get air cover though they could get wiped out.

The Swedish navy attacks the Soviet sub that has been hitting my ore convoy for over a year now and reduces it nearly to death. Hoping it will not escape:

Baku is taken but my tanks get ravaged by Soviet heavy tanks. Hoping I do not lose the unit:

Kharkov is taken and the armies are about to link up around the swamps:

Capture the last town before Leningrad:

Italy buys back the Logistics chit and buys its last squadron of tac bombers.

Germany buys another destroyer, a new fighter, two rocket artillery, a heavy artillery, and a corps.

End Turn

Another new ally.

Neat.

Broke 1700.

Never gotten that before.

Good riddance.

Allied planes sink the Tirpitz, the first German battleship lost. British and American troops rush to crush my beachhead. Not sure if I can win here. Fortunately British morale is in the 30s so they should be easy to push around.

Two turns before my regular transports can land.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

June 24

I was thinking the US invasion would be a bust but while sinking a US battleship and light cruiser I noticed that Norfolk was undefended (probably railed near the New York landing) so I landed some tanks there and the port was captured with enough strength to land troops so I brought another unit ashore and got some planes on the ground.

At least four more transports will be in range to land troops next turn at Norfolk. This might end up working.

With bomber support the Italians take Crete:

Nearly have Kars surrounded, only Turkish town left in Allied control:

At the edge of Kursk:

The Finns begin teching up their units and I make a mistake. My forward tank on the road to Leningrad might die. The Swedish navy does wipe out that Soviet sub:

Soviet front is suffering a little as I am continually pulling German units off the line to rail them to France to cross the Atlantic.

Germany and Italy each but three Switzerland diplomatic chits and Germany buys two in Saudi Arabia. Those are the only two neutrals left.

Germany buys its Rocket tech chit back.

Germany and Italy each buy a garrison unit to help maintain order in Russia. Money is low due to the need to upgrade Finnish troops.

End Turn

No idea what that means.

Hooray for the Swiss!

Those were Italians and they were not paratroopers.

Another HQ.

Morale boost to Italian air.

Good.

Definitely going to need more garrisons.

In Turkey the Soviets take out my Italian tank. I lose the German tank near Leningrad and in the New York battle I lose an HQ and a fighter unit. Got to hope the Norfolk landings work now. If this landing fails the invasion is off:

July - August 1943
_____________________________________________________________________________________

July 8

I wipe out an army and more troops and another HQ lands:

To win I believe I need to secure the South to give myself room to bring in more air power and then North to D.C.

Wipe out a corps in Turkey, nothing exciting.

The Italian units in the med are being shipped over to Russia.

Slow advance here but several Russian units wiped out:

Finland enters the war. On to Leningrad:

Germany buys back its Swiss chit and an ASW chit. Italy buys an AA chit.

Germany buys back the lost tank, another fighter unit, and lays down a successor for the Tirpitz called "Tirpitz".

End Turn

This is going very well. They were leaning Allied but are now 10% Axis.

Soviet partisans eat up some of my income through disruption. Need garrisons.

The overwhelming US airpower destroys the northern landings and does a lot of damage on the southern landing. Turkey loses a corp.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

July 22

The invasion is not going well. Got more troops ashore but still only have one supply point. I have loaded the last troops I am willing to send in France. If this is not enough the invasion will fail. I need to get more room to get planes in there. On the bright side we wiped out two US destroyer units:

Two Russian tank units fall in the area:

Planning to mostly screen in the Southeast and drive for Moscow:

In the North Finland's attacks have so far been unimpressive. The Swedish navy sinks a Russian light cruiser and traps a Russian battleship in port:

In the Far North Sweden marches on Murmansk to cut the Arctic supply convoys:

I also rail some Spanish garrisons I forgot about into southern Russia.

Germany buys a fighter, an army, and two garrisons. Italy buys the last two garrisons it is allowed to have.

End Turn

This will help against those Russian tanks.

My strat bombers start getting some tech.

Not helping in the US.

Nice.

With heavy air attacks the US breaks through my lines and wipes out my fighter squadron along with an army and my tanks.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

August 5

I wipe out a US corps and try to ship in more planes. I think I am going to lose but going to keep trying:

Still mostly indecisive but it is drawing off Russian troops I guess:

Orel is taken. Only one more group of towns by those fighters to occupy before the siege of Moscow begins:

Despite almost losing a unit the Swedish navy sinks the Russian battleship. Finland is mauling its army trying to advance:

Germany buys back its anti-tank weapon chit, its heavy bomber chit, and a long range aircraft chit. Italy buys back its logistics chit.

Germany buys two garrisons.

End Turn

Italian HQs at max effectiveness.

The Soviets push through and retake Kursk and hit an HQ.

And the Americans destroyed all the fighter cover I brought along with another land unit:

This is not going to work. I am losing units much faster then I can bring them in and my air force is shattered. I do not have a single German fighter unit left and even the ones I am already building will not arrive until winter. The minor powers are going to have to do the interception and escort work. I am going to evacuate what I can and bring the invasion home. I will probably send an invasion of Iceland eventually but not trying this again.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

August 15

It will take two more turns to get the rest of the units out assuming they all survive. Spoilers: They probably will not.

In Turkey I hit supply problems and fall back towards Baku.

I retake Kursk and wipe out two Russian tac bomber units. Hopefully this will cut down on need for intercepts until I can get the air force rebuilt:

The advance on Leningrad is stalled by Russian reinforcements coming from the South:

A few garrisons are railed into Russia.

Italy buys an Advanced Aircraft chit.

Germany buys the tank lost in American, two new fighters, and two new garrisons.

End Turn

Moving along.

Italy now has maxed out Naval weapons.

Good.

The Americans wipe out my HQ and surprisingly paradrop into Norfolk to liberate it cutting off one army. I still control the port and can evac one army this turn and if my tanks survive they can leave the next:

A partisan unit pops up in Kiev:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

I apologize for failing in the invasion. I think the only way I would have a decent chance of pulling it off would be to tech up Italian and German amphibs to maximum and then also loading lots of minor nation units as they appear to have their own pool. If I could get 5 German, 5 Italian, 5 Romanian, 5 Spanish, 5 Turkish, and a smattering of others and landed all along the coast I might have been able to get enough ashore to get a solid line, be able to move an airforce in, and win. Not practical while fighting Russia. It also might have worked if I had done it earlier. If I were to try again I would have Germany put everything into amphib tech, create Vichy, run a faster Sealion, and then launch an invasion of America in 1941 before they have time to build and tech up.

I will probably not take Moscow this year but probably the next. Not sure about Leningrad. Stalingrad is definitely a long-term goal at this point.

I don't think the location would have mattered too much. The AI can rail the troops anywhere pretty easily. I already own the Azores. Came with Portugals' surrender. On the map the only locations not owned by the Axis right now are the US and Canada and their offshore islands, some of the Orkneys, the Shetlands, Iceland, Greenland, Bermuda, Malta, the parts of Russia I have not conquered, some strips of Persian and UK territory on the eastern edge of the map with nothing in them, two hexes in Turkey the Russians hold, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland. I think that is everything anyways.

September - October 1943

September 2

Another army gets loaded. The heavy tanks have to survive one turn to get out. I doubt they will make it. Maybe if most of the air hits the trapped German army:

Turkey is still an indecisive mess:

The town Kaluga is captured, last supply point needed before Moscow:

Can begin the siege of Leningrad now. Finland tries to encircle the corps blocking them:

Some reinforcements are finished. Two rocket artillery, a new corps, and four garrisons.

Germany buys the Swiss chit back. Italy buys another AA chit.

Italy buys a new army. Germany buys back the Tac bombers lost in the US, a new fighter unit, and the last three garrisons they can buy.

End Turn

Considering the 30% chance of success this is going very well.

Finally an edge over the Russians. Probably will not get a chance to upgrade much until winter. I need them all on the front line right now.

I plan to build some soon. I lost the one they had.

Good.

I did not know I could get imports from Switzerland.

You people live in a fantasy world.

Rain blankets the East coast of the US keeping the American planes grounded. The heavy tanks are going to escape in their own private Dunkirk.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

September 16

The fleet continues across the Atlantic. Some are almost back to France for resupply. The amphibs should land on Iceland in two turns.

I keep clearing out that town on the border but never have the ability to take it:

Reached the outer fortifications of Moscow. Their engineers have been busy. Not anymore though. I just bombed and attacked those engineers out of existence:

The siege of Leningrad digs out the entrenchments of the army there and batters it to half strength. Down south the partisans are about to fall near Kiev:

Way up North Sweden runs into a garrison and starts attacking. Supply is a problem but the HQ caught up. Should solve the problem next turn. Then they can push North to Murmansk and cut at least one route for US lend-lease:

Germany buys back its Swiss chit and an Advanced Tanks chit. Italy also buys an Advanced Tanks chit.

Germany buys an HQ and the last fighter unit. The Luftwaffe is now completely built out. The navy only needs a few destroyers to be the same.

End Turn

Not enough to cut off oil shipments but getting close.

Nice.

Good.

I am outfitting the Swedish navy to go hunt down the sub on the Norway route.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

October 4

My HQ lands in Iceland. The army going with it is a little slower. Low supply from being rushed towards America earlier. No problem. This will give time for the HQ to take the other settlement:

The Bismarck returns to a French port. A lot of the navy is home. All but the heavy tanks have been offloaded and they will reach port next turn. Other units that were on the way to the US or escaped are being rebuilt and then will be sent to the Eastern Front.

In Turkey I am going to try an offensive on the westernmost Russian group to drive them completely out of Turkey:

In the South I get new reinforcements and try for another advance towards Rostov. The partisan barely survives but all cities have been retaken:

The advance on Moscow slows due to the rain. I need planes to force my way into those fortifications:

With an armored attack Leningrad is taken:

Germany buys back the Saudi Arabia chit. They also buy a Heavy Bomber chit and an ASW chit. Italy buys another AA chit.

Germany buys two armies and a cavalry division (plan to use it against partisans).
_____________________________________________________________________________________

October 26

The slow conquest of Iceland continues:

I go ahead and load up a corps to invade Greenland.

Nothing in Turkey.

Wiped out a pocket and the Kiev partisan is destroyed:

Smolensk is about to fall and troops take some of the outer fortifications:

The Soviets pocketed me at Leningrad. I am pretty sure I can break out but still clever of them:

Germany buys an Advanced Sub chit. Italy buys an artillery Weapon chit.

I buy a Hungarian garrison and two Romanian garrisons. That is pretty much it for those outside of Persia and Iraq who cannot easily get garrisons where I need them. Germany also buys an army.

End Turn

Hooray!

New AA.

And the raiders leave just as the Swedes were closing in.

The Russians cut Leningrad off from the rest of the pocket.

I spot American amphibs loading again.

November 17

The slow conquest of Iceland continues. Troops continue towards Greenland.

Retook a town in Turkey. Now hold all Turkish settlements:

The siege of Vononezh still has not broken. The weather is making it difficult. Hope to hit Rostov soon:

I have gotten adjacent to Moscow. Smolensk is also taken. With one turn of good weather I could probably bomb the unit there out and take the city:

FInland wipes out its first enemy unit and the Leningrad pocket is still trapped. They have enough supply though that I am not too worried. If I could get clear weather the bombers could a way out:

Sweden wipes out a garrison blocking the way and heads on to Murmansk.

Germany buys a Heavy Bomber chit.

Germany buys an army and a corps.

End Turn

Good.

Better.

Somehow the Pacific is still on schedule.

Italy's one fighter gets a little better.

And their bombers reach maximum effectiveness.

The Norway raiders are back. Time to kill them.

A cheap corps. Sure, I am going to have to use some corps on anti-partisan duty so this is a good deal.

Weather is clear and the Russians bomb me a lot.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

December 9

And the weather is clear for me too. across most of Russia.

Iceland continues to be slowly taken as we head towards the capital. Greenland landing next turn.

The fleet is mostly repaired. The Swedes and a few German destroyers hunt for subs.

I need air and tank support to keep advancing here. All reinforcements are earmarked for this area to take Stalingrad in '44.

The air strikes weakened the Moscow defenders but not enough to take the city:

Still pocketed but still not a concern:

The Swedes close on Murmansk:

Germany buys an HQ and two cavalry units for anti-partisan work.

End Turn

More of this rubbish?

Intel is maxed out.

Looks good.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

December 31

I land in Greenland and find British tac bombers there. Odd choice, I would have favored Maritime. I damage them and force them out of the port but cannot move in:

Iceland HQ waits for army to catch up.

Turkey is still the same old.

The Stalingrad front gets a bunch of new equipment including tanks and rocket artillery:

That is a lot of units:

Germany buys its final HQ.

End Turn

Up to 43%.

Okay.

Partisan infestation just keeps getting worse. Going to buy more corps from my minor nations and move some corps onto anti-partisan duty. They are also difficult to clean up in winter when my forces are slow and attack poorly. Come spring I should be able to get the problem under control.

I think I can take Moscow and Stalingrad in '44 which should give me the win if I understand correctly.

Greenland falls. I start moving the fleet near Iceland to try to destroy any ships in the area when an Italian battlehship randomly runs into the carrier Ranger:

I also find a destroyer escorting it. Italian battleships and German subs bring down the Ranger but the destroyer is only damaged and might escape.

Nothing in Turkey.

A little progress towards Stalingrad:

My units continue to attack the AA in Moscow in order to keep its entrenchment rating down while I wait for the skies to clear:

This front will be static until the snows melt and I can attack a little:

First rebuilt German fighters get to the front.

Germany buys a Swiss chit. Italy buys an AA chit and an Advanced Aircraft chit.

Germany buys two Hungarian and two Romanian corps to use for anti-partisan work.

End Turn

Good.

The American destroyer runs into an Italian battleship during its escape and goes to the bottom.

While snow is off the ground it is still snowing over Moscow and the planes will be grounded again next turn. I just need one clear weather turn.

March 24

A new battleship, the Hindenberg, is launched.

Looks like they may have avacuated Iceland. Saw some planes but they fled:

In Turkey the Germans wipe out some Russian tanks and I pocket an overeager Russian corps:

A little more progress. Need to take Rostov:

Come on weather.....give me Moscow:

Should be able to get out of here and break the pocket next turn:

The Swedes take Murmansk and hopefully cut the Lend-lease line:

Italy buys two Long-Range Aircraft chits.

Germany buys all of its three mechanized units, both its special forces units, and the last heavy artillery. These will all be done this summer.

End Turn

Good.

Better.

They just switch to Archangel. Hopefully fewer supplies get through there.

I think this is the first time Italy breaks 300.

Soviet strat bombers bomb a few captured mines.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

April 15

The weather clears over all of Russia!

Iceland will fall next turn but looks like the Allied fleets already left.

Things are improving in Turkey as once the trapped unit is dead the Russians will finally be completely expelled from the country:

Rostov falls. The last city before Stalingrad:

In heavy air bombardment Moscow is taken. Not ideal for weakened tanks to hold it but might be able to repel attacks. The bombers start to be sent south to support the Stalingrad offensive. I hope Stalin decided to stay in Moscow so the morale hits harder:

The pocket is relieved and Finland and Germany wipe out a number of Russian units in the area:

The Swedes head south with the objective of taking all the towns on the Finnish border and then Archangel if necessary.

Germany buys three armies.

End Turn

Down to 52%. The government moves to Kuybyshev.

Germany is up to 117% and Italy is at 133%.

That definitely ends oil shipments to the US.

Relatively weak movement but I will take it. Up to 51%.

Another Japanese try.

Germany reaches max fighter tech.

Good.

Germany finishes their second carrier and christens a new Heavy Cruiser group.

I believe taking Stalingrad will end the game. If so I expect the game to last 2-3 more updates.

That happened to me once. I think I mentioned it and that is why I sent a German unit to Africa to take Algiers.

It is not an insurmountable problem but it hurts for several reasons:

- Italy is always behind Germany on tech and has no chance of catching up
- You can buy out the entire Italian force pool and be stuck with Italian money when Germany and its minors need it more
- When you fight Russia if you use a lot of Italian troops they will probably end up occupying a lot of cities and resource sites and that is more money for Italy and less for Germany again.

No way to exchange territory that I know of. Make sure Germany gets other surrendered minors you take and German units occupy higher value sites in Russia when you go in. A little harder but I think it is doable.

Or if you want to be silly get Italy to surrender and then retake France with Germany and then liberate Italy again.

Decided to restart, but I'll keep the mega-Italy campaign save to try later. Could be fun to see what happens from there.

Game is super good. Mechanics are nice and simple but you can tell there's a lot going on under the hood.

I'm hoping for an eventual expansion dealing with China and the Pacific because yeah the base game is pretty fun

May - June 1944
_____________________________________________________________________________________

May 7

Reykjavik falls without a fight:

The fleet redeploys a bit and my subs go back to interdicting the US Arctic convoy route to Russia.

Germans capture another town but can only occupy it with the HQ leaving Rommel exposed:

The air force arrives and will be ready next turn. My strat bombers hit Stalingrad. Tanks begin their push:

Moscow is now held by a strong German army and my troops try to clean up the area:

The forces around Leningrad fall and I push on to Volkhov in the East which is a National Morale town for some reason and work on reducing the Russians to the South:

The Swedes continue their trek south.

Germany buys back both of its diplomatic chits and buys a Long-Range Aircraft chit. Only tech left that can take another chit without overpaying is Rocket tech and next time a little research room empties out I will build it:

Italy buys an AA chit.

Germany buys two armies and two AA guns. The latter will be used for anti-partisan work.

End Turn

I get 24 MPP out of the deal too.

Up to 59%.

Nice.

Could be useful.

Good.

Russians take out an Italian corps near Moscow.

Amphibs appear off the coast of Britain:

Intel also reveals slower amphibs further out.

May 29

Seven US amphibs go to the bottom. US morale down to 82%. Not sure why they are not using their warships as escorts. I know they still have a few.

In Turkey my tanks close on Tblisi, the Russian city that has been running this whole fight:

The drive to Stalingrad annihilates a few Russian units and pushes on. Four hexes to go with little resistance in sight:

A few more Russian units eliminated:

Attacks continue and some of the Finns head North. Rain keeps my planes grounded:

Swedes continue South.

Germany buys back its Swiss chit, Italy buys back its Advanced Tank and Long-Range Aircraft chit.

Germany buys its last army and an AA gun.

End Turn

Cool new toys.

V2 now?

Great.

Slowly rising still.

I am sure that will work.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

June 20

I find one more amphib in the Atlantic and sink it.

Wipe out a Russian mech unit and Turkey pushes forward:

Air attacks clear the road and the charge for Stalingrad knocks out the defenders but units cannot occupy the city. One attack less and I could have had it:

Trying to take the industrial area NW of Moscow. No luck yet:

Still trying to knock out that pocket:

Swedes engage another garrison.

Germany buys two Rocket chits and one Heavy Bomber chit.

Germany buys two AA, a rail gun, an armored train, and a engineer unit. Only thing left for Germany is two rocket units and four destroyers:

Italy buys back the corps they lost near Moscow.

End Turn

I am sure that will be a huge help.

How can the British still be defeating you? What is wrong with you?

The Soviets reinforce Stalingrad and place new construction in the vicinity. Oddly the British sub is spotted off the Northern coast of Russia near the Swedish army. Not sure why it is there.

July - August 1944
_____________________________________________________________________________________

July 8

I found an American destroyer heading up the convoy line to hunt subs. It is quickly dispatched. I realized I left some Italian garrisons in Libya. Loading them up to suppress partisans in Russia.

In Turkey some indecisive skirmishing.

Stalingrad falls under heavy airstrikes and my troops seem free to push forward generally for the first time in a long time:

The other half of Moscow falls and Russian resistance is crumbling. Need to knock out those armored trains and then can press on:

Last supply source in the pocket has fallen. Should be quick to finish it off. The Finns wipe out a Russian cavalry and continue NE:

Swedes overrun another garrison and continue South. Russian corps out in the middle of nowhere for some reason. You can also see the British sub up there doing something.....hiding?

Except for one chit in Anti-Tank weapons I can't buy until I get another level German research as already paid for will eventually get max level in everything:

Germany buys a pair of Rocket units and the last four destroyers. Germany has bought its entire force pool. There is still stuff to spend money on. The minors are not entirely built out yet (particularly Spain).

End Turn

Good.

Up to 68%. A few more turns.

Maxed tank tech.

One level from max.

Maxed AA.

Probably not needed but nice.

Almost to 1,800.

The Soviet Union unconditionally surrenders to Germany. Large portions of land are annexed by Germany and some is annexed by Finland, Romania, and Hungary. Stalin attempts to hold onto power in the rump state formed but is shot by an assassin with unknown motives and a new Russian Civil War begins. The United States agrees to a white peace to concentrate on defeating Japan. The British agree to a truce under conditions that the unconquered elements of the Empire will continue, the government can return home, and they agree to strict armaments limitations (to keep the British Navy from threatening the continent again) to be overseen by the Germans. The British also agree to war reparations. The Commonwealth powers sign a non-aggression pact with Germany and Italy but fight on against Japan. Germany claims the overseas possessions of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal in return for the installation of puppet governments. Germany, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Slovakia, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Belgium, and the Netherlands form a new European alliance under the protection of Germany.

The United States goes on to defeat Japan with the atomic bomb. The United States maintains control over most of the Pacific and provides support to the Chinese Nationalists who win the Civil War and maintain ties with the US to protect themselves against the German alliance. The Germans develop the atomic bomb quickly. A cold war develops between Europe and the Americas with China as an unreliable American satellite.

Post-Game Stuff:

The Americans and the Brits:

A few troops in Canada and a US force in Newfoundland:

A force of five light cruisers and destroyers was coming up the convoy line. Seven slow amphibs were in the Pacific about to be hit by my navy if they continued on.

Lots of planes own here but not a lot of ground units left to hold Turkey:

Not much to keep me from taking the new Russian capital up in Kubyshev. Probably could take it before winter:

Some more planes up here but not a lot more:

Up North nothing but road bumps:

The German production list:

The July/August section also has a bunch of armies and special forces coming in August.

Russians only had six units in the queue. They were about to run out of steam. The British had a few units.

The US was about to get a few more battleships:

US tech was pretty good though I really would have upped naval weapons and warfare and worked a little on AA:

British tech was way behind and they were not working on anything. France started work on Advanced Tanks and Advanced Aircraft before their defeat (kind of dumb).

Russians were behind but not hopelessly so:

Force comparison on land, air, and sea. Germany is winning in all categories but the combined air of the Allies would probably beat the Axis. Not the case on ground and sea:

Green line is German production over time:

Soviet income looks to have been around 800-850 in the endgame. Britain was getting about 150. US was about 800.

Lost units:

Soviets lost 49% of the total losses, British 21%, USA 17%, France and Germany both at 6%, Poland 2%, and Italy 1%.

I was going to show the losses by nation and unit type screen but lpix just quit working. Might put that in tomorrow if it is working then.

I think a little less then half of Germany's losses were in the invasion of the United States. Kind of disappointed I never took out a Soviet HQ. Also think losses on amphibs count double for losses as Amphib transports and the units they were carrying are counted separately. Otherwise US casualties would be lower. Other then naval units I never fought their ground troops outside the landing in the Americas.

Anyways, fun game. Thanks to everyone who read through and commented. Hope you enjoyed it.
