I mostly agree with the vid, but I don't think tailing missions, if they're back, will be problem since now you've got an actual bird (with unlimited flight distance, no less) for your Eagle Vision.

Now eavesdropping missions, on the other hand...

I get why people are worried about the RPG stuff, but it's not really that important unless you're really bought into the idea of this being open world. Yes, you can go anywhere any time, but the reality is that the RPG stuff is there to provide a linear progression from area to area, because if Syndicate is any indication, people above your level will be basically impossible, and people of your level are where you're meant to be.

That, honestly, makes it a different kind of lovely, but in that sense it at least has a purpose other than padding gameplay.

E: Of course two days after the game comes out there will be a Youtube video of someone killing the end boss at level one so it probably doesn't matter.

Do people really want a linear path in an otherwise open world game though? What advantage does that bring to the gameplay? Why even make it open world at all if a large chunk of areas are going to be gated by enemies that that are health sponges?

Granted the last AC I played was Black Flag, which still used the old formula. Maybe Syndicate did this, and did it well?

Orv

Syndicate had 4 or 5 power rankings for its map areas, I forget which exactly, and you could totally do things in any order in any area, but if you hosed up the higher level guys did like two thirds of your health a hit instead of maybe 5%, meaning it was all doable, but one missed parry and you were dead.

I expect Origins will be similar, as long as you're not going somewhere a dozen levels above you. Since they've shown levels in the mid and high 20s, I just expect there will be some places you're not intended to go immediately.

Finally have some proper stealth gameplay, this was my absolute biggest worry and I see that it's still extremely viable so that's great.

In the videos I've seen the devs have stated they consider any area 5 levels above you as "very difficult". When watching someone in a video attempt one, his one hit assassination takedown did not kill an enemy in 1 hit nor did a direct headshot arrow.

Seeing someone get up from a full out execution takedown with a hidden blade to the neck is just weird. I'm not sure it will ever feel right.

Yeah, things like that are really lazy when they could just as easily program in that super-higher-level character just being able to parry or dodge your assassination attacks but that's effort.

So, everyone had a decade added to their physical appearance?

Caesar should be in his early 50's, not his late 60's. Ptolmey should be like 11.

Julius Caesar bears a strong resemblance to many busts of him, and the only thing I would point out about his appearance is that he looks to be in his sixties or perhaps a bit older in game but historically he was about 52 when he arrived in Egypt but his hair was already thinning at the time unlike his in-game appearance which is kind of an understandable omission.

I never got why people are so critical of historical accuracy in a series with magical alien precursors and legendary ancient artifacts of power. Alternate universes should be allowed to be different.

It honestly looks like too much game for me to enjoy. I didn't like that about TW3 and that map from Origins is already giving me shingles, especially because you know ubi isn't going to be very strategic about managing quest bloat.

I want to post a table breaking thinking emoji here, I really do.

I guess I get that, but if the game's good I definitely want as much of it as I can handle, since I very rarely replay single-player story focused stuff, so the more time I end up enjoying it first time through the better.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about that too.

I don't have a huge amount of confidence in their writers to even keep the side stuff interesting either, I'm expecting to do rinse and repeat missions of "go here -> kill them -> report back" or variations on escort missions.

But, this could have been a parkour/walking simulator based in ancient Egypt and I'd have been fine with it! :histdowns:

If they can actually incorporate historical tidbits into the exploration and collectathons then it'll be worth it for me too.

One of the streamers at Gamescom said something like "and as soon as I got to this new town, 10 quest markers sprung up in a very small area" like this was actually a positive thing so I don't trust them to rein in the icon overload.

As long as they don't decide that you can only pursue one quest at a time. And have to report to the quest giver before and after doing each quest.
