the thing is you can do pretty much everything with emacs. it has an irc client, web browser, window manager, music player, terminal, and a text editor. but it does all of those things very poorly

i edit text with it, sometimes in ascii, mostly in unicode. sometimes i do serious programming, but generally i use a modern/purpose built IDE for that.

i dont need to touch a mouse to use it. i know how to reach all the commands i need. if I need to edit some code that doesn't have a really powerful IDE tool, emacs is my go to.

sometimes when I need to ssh into a server and edit text (although that rarely happens these days), i can use emacs for that. it's really good at that.

i used vim for several years before emacs and exclusively use vim mode in emacs (which is much better than vim).

when you dont have a zsh config file it will give you a configuration thing that probably gets you 90% of what you want out of zsh. dont use oh my zsh

if you get paged at 3AM and need to use your small-screen company laptop to grep server logs and query a DB and cross check with source code to diagnose a sev 2 issue, emacs is a good tool that can do all of that

actual coding ? not so much
