That's exactly how I felt, this was the episode that solidified things. Great acting from everyone, I especially love Big Mike's growth and recognition as being smarter than just muscle

There are a lot of lovely people in the cast of characters. Off the top of my head, the ones I hate the most include the john who tried to kidnap Lori before getting stabbed by C.C. That was already an incredibly lovely thing to attempt, but then later when it comes out that he's a well-liked school teacher, I hated him a hundred times more.

None are shittier than the chief of the 14th precinct. He's totally giving off the Clay Davis 'total rear end in a top hat but too entrenched in the system to be stopped' vibes

The chief is likely responsible for more misery, and thus has greater guilt and a larger just punishment.

But the idea of a rapist/murderer spending time in front of kids day in, day out, teaching them poo poo... that triggered some real dark poo poo in me.

Huh. I'm really curious about whether Vincent will wind up getting pulled into the mob family proper or just wind up becoming a victim. Pretty much seems like it's going to have to go one way or the other (or both!)

He's a smart fellow, that Vincent. He can play a wise guy just as well as a wise guy can play him. Vincent's even got some tough muscle in his corner. Not a crime family, but he's definitely got teeth that need respecting.

On the other hand, Frankie is a dead man walking. If an irate creditor doesn't get to him first, the superclap will.

edit: I haven't seen the latest episode, so I'm behind on the current events.

Oh yeah, Frankie's days are numbered. No way his swagger and big mouth get him anything other than a tragic and completely avoidable death.

I just hope that we get some sort of fun twin switcheroo scene before his time comes. Maybe it'll even contribute to the cause of death

It's gonna be slapstick when a wiseguy tries to whack Frankie and hits Vinnie instead. Then Frankie has to spend the rest of his life trying to be competent and failing. Afterwards he will go be Richie's second prostitute.

He will get a Polish-American woman pregnant, and she will name their son Roland Pryzbelewski

I liked the moment where white Frankie tells Mike to go get a cab and Mike's like 'We'll be here all night.' Was a short little scene but a low stakes way of pointing out racism.

Several episodes back when Rudy was getting his orders to staff the massage parlor, he was told to choose "nobody made. Don't get caught holding the bag." Seems to indicate that the mob doesn't fully trust their connections downtown and that they'll likely throw Vincent under the bus if their agreement with the city falls apart and the place gets shut down.

The actress who plays the production assistant who refused to be a fluffer was in the Wire. In the Wire she played a heroin addict who turned to prostitution to feed her habit. She gives an incredible monolog about her inner addict and all the poo poo she's done.

I know she's playing two different characters but, when she scoffed like giving a hand job at work was beneath her it was kinda an :unsmith: moment for me.

Professor Shark

I liked her character, for the 3-4 times she was on screen. In the first season she's a high school student scoring an 8 Ball, by the end of the last season she's in treatment and is restarting her life.

I dunno, in the opening scene the two pimps are discussing Nixon's Mad Man Strategy in Vietnam in the present tense. The war officially ended in April 30, 1975, and the AIDS crisis didn't really kick off until 80 or 81.

that aids Crisis kicked off in 80/81 when it started becoming noticed that, hey, all these people are starting to get odd diseases. Whats going on here.

They were getting infected in the late 60s and 70s, but the disease does not start killing soon after infection.

When I was in college in the early 80s, I was working as a carpenter/maintenance guy/painter at the Hotel Washington in Madison Wisconsin which was a residence hotel/office complex/entertainment complex that had two gay bars, a late night diner, a fern bar, and a live music club. When AIDs started hitting it was incredible how many people started getting affected so quickly. 1982 through 1985 were absolutely brutal with so little information on what the hell was happening to my friends and coworkers. As about 60% of the staff, including one of the owners of the building, were homosexual men, the death toll (which did include Rodney the owner) was horrifying.

For the sake of the story, I hope they don't get it - or if they do get it, it becomes a tangentially related subplot. HIV/AIDS/back-then GRID is an important topic, but it's been covered in a number of excellent movies and television series where the disease is the focus (like Dallas Buyers Club or And the Band Played On).

It's kind of like the part in the last episode where Frankie and Black Frankie are following the money: the entire time I felt like they were going to gently caress things up, but nothing bad happened, because something bad happening in that sort of sequence is what you expect. It's plot. If Simon did something like that I'd be disappointed. The real problems come after you can't do anything about them.

Yeah, totally! I kept expecting them to be wrong about the skimming they thought they saw in some way but nope, just simple observation and reporting. It may be boring to some, but to me it's kind of refreshing to just see simple plans carried out in a TV show. It's sort of like one of the things that makes Mike fun to watch in Better Call Saul. The intrigue comes not from some heroic action or quick reflex, but from watching them carry out their plans and appreciating the work that goes into a plan like that.

Agreed on both those points. Simon rarely has a scene go down in a dramatic way just for the sake of throwing some action into the show. Mike from BB/Better Call Saul just going about his business in a very lowkey, methodical fashion is easily the most engaging part of those shows. "This is the job." felt like a like that you'd hear Simon write.

Oh, I thought the time from contraction to death in untreated cases was much shorter, like 2 or 3 years. But I just checked and the World Health Org says it averages 11 years.
