Yea I think Gary Car is doing an amazing job. I specifically started thinking this during the engaging coke scene w/ Emily Meade, and then again later when he's amping himself up to stab the kidnapping murderer, he's basically communicating to the audience what's about to happen. I remember watching that scene and thinking "why is he so loving crazy right now"??? It was really well done on his part. The show also kind of sets the audience up by showing women being alone w/ strange, random men over and over, there's even the bait and switch of the role-play rapist in Episode 1.

But I seriously found that angry red bearded guy yelling about his machines to be the most unbelievable thing I've seen in a David Simon production. There at least TWO different mob outfits that tell you to gently caress off, and you still go in there acting like a cartoon to shoot your way into profitability? There's lots of idiots out there but this guy was 1 dimensional.

Then after he gets knocked out, then what? No reprecussions, him just being KOed like, again, a cartoon and everyone still manages to have a good time? Why didn't he just come back if his death wish was to shoot something in that bar then? What'd they even do with him anyway?

Just odd.

You're misinterpreting what happened imo. I think it's possible for mafia members to respect shows of force or strength, if you want something take it kind of attitude. The Irish mafia was definitely going to rough them up until the Italians explained their business interest. But James Franco is not in the mafia or a 'made' guy so if you're feeling salty about money being stolen from you, maybe go get it back with a gun?? And if that doesn't work, well at least you tried. This is believe-able for me in a show about prostitutes, porn, and how many different bars James Franco can inhabit.

It was also the culmination to the upcoming bouncer's origin story which, judging by his previous scenes, kind-of came out of nowhere!

David Simon linked this article on twitter: http://therumpus.net/2017/10/the-peep-kings-legacy-a-family-portrait/

It's a pretty good view on where even the successful people will end up, i.e. hosed up and soulless, as seen from one of their actual grandchildren.

Amazing read, also have to admit I love Simon tweeting it.

I could not manage even one iota of empathy for any of the pimps. Watching their scenes was pretty hard because they are such evil scumbags. There's something about what they do, maybe just the constant unbridled cruelty and dehumanizing of the girls. I found the murderous drug dealers of the Wire far more compelling and relatable.

Pretty sure C.C.'s last scene is supposed to hammer home that mindset.
