You ever do the chicken dance at a wake? That really bothers people.

I'd suggest we get that stubber ASAP and suppress the enemy. I'll get in there and make with the stabs for someone else, preferably the arbite-looking mofo.

There he is!

Linara Lyhte

Linara is a shadow, barely a rustle of wind as she leads her partner through the base. Quickly she spots a tower with a machine gun at the top. She hated being shot at by machine guns - so many bullets, so many chances to die. Primary target number one. She made a hand motion to Ordo - up the tower, steal the machine gun, shoot it at things instead. She had to improvise the last part, but Ordo was used to her idiosyncrasies enough to get the idea.

She waits for their chance. The locals seemed alert - but not alert enough. They were above average for your regular puddies - one of them was even looking up. Fortunately, he wasn't looking up at them as they scaled the tower. Her knifework wasn't excellent - but with complete surprise, it didn't need to be. Between her and Ordo the stubber crew was down in a flash. She looked down at their fallen comrade and waited for the signal, then she hopped up onto the gun and swing it around at the small crowd,

Alright, I'll start this off with a sweep of Suppressing Fire on the crowd around our boy. I'll try not to shoot him.

Josephina

Darting up through the undergrowth as silently as she can, Josephina and Serp make their way to the closest of the perimeter patrol. The guy doesn't even see it coming. A pair of knives dig in and twist, and the body falls quietly. Unfortunately, there's going to be little way to hide the gap in their guard ring now so they take up firing positions to cover the rescue attempt. A thought occurs and instead of firing, Josephina primes a smoke grenade. Everyone's got thermal goggles, so it won't bother them when firing. But it'll cover Abe long enough for him to hopefully crab-walk out of the way on his hands and good leg.

The Two scouts move into position. Linara climbs up the prefab guard tower and takes out the rebel manning the stubber. She quickly notices that the grunt carrying it seems to have a small, almost child-like arm on his left side, which was gripping the handle. Due to having an extra limb, the stubber has been modified with an extra carrying handle to allow better stability on the move; which is useless to the two armed medic-scout. Not dwelling on it too much, she grabs the gun and sets it up on the edge of the tower overlooking the courtyard. Jose meanwhile, sneaks up on one of the other troopers mindlessly wandering about, and quickly dispatches him with from behind, one knife reaching around his torso into his heart, while the other is drawn across the throat for extra effect, and to stifle any scream.

With the two scouts in position, it doesn't take long for the rebel aimlessly looking up into the sky to look at the tower and see the person behind the gun is not his three armed pal. The group quickly jumps into action. Jose, worried about extracting abe, throws a smoke grenade. It rolls a little farther than she wanted closer to their allies on the other side of the compound, but it gets the job done in obscuring Abe, as well as the entire six enemies in the center from everyone else.

Jayne tries to take a shot at the squad, but the smoke cloud from Jose's grenade. Abe sees his opportunity and he leaps up in the confusion and essentially drops a grenade as he limps off. Due to the smoke no one sees Abe limp away or drop the grenade, and a large explosion goes off, and the screams of a handful of the rebels can be heard. Linara opens fore on the group with a volley of stubber shots, but the confusion already caused by the smoke grenade and the frag grenade going off in the midst of the enemies means the additional hail of gunfire doesn't do much to shake their resolve.

After that initial shock, their is a shout from inside the smoke in the middle of the camp. "Nine Damnation, kill someone already!" Gunfire erupts from those still inside the smoke, as well as the four or so that were on lookout and escaped the smoke and the grenade. Most of the shots whiz past the tower, causing Linara to duck, as to with some shots coming towards the general direction of where the smoke grenade comes from. One of the troops inside the smoke manages to shoot Abe in the same leg he landed on, but thankfully the carapace takes some of the blow, and the round itself doesn't do any damage in excess of what the fall already did.

Weber shoots a missile at the location of where the ogryn was before the smoke went off, but the sound of it impacting the ground on the other side (not to far from Jose)) leads him to believe the Ogryn moved.

Okay, Should have said I want ini, but I did not. So for ease, I have rolled your ini for this combat. I am also using the formation rules from Enemies of the Imperium. They are like Hordes, but smaller in scale. If anyone does not have access to those rules, let me know, and I can explain in more detail. The rear end in a top hat in the carapace is the overseer. The Ogryn is an independent character, since to be part of the formation he has to be the same stat lines as the others.

With the two stealth kills, you actualld did half damage to the formation, but the commander managed to keep them rallied together.

Everything went off as expected except for Weber's rocker missed the Ogryn since the Ogryn is in the smoke, and the -20 would have made your hit a miss.

The smoke makes it hard to see, but the absent sound of a Krak missile detonating in flesh made it clear that his shot had missed. Cursing, Darrien kneeled into the proper firing stance, one knee vertical and one knee horizontal, with the weapon's center mass resting on his shoulder.

"Emperor drat it! Darrien, reload!"

As Darrien fiddled around slotting another krak missile into the launcher, Salvus pulled his preysense goggles down into position, painting the world a sea of blue, dotted with red-yellow figures.

Salvus is spending a half-action Bracing, and another half-action equipping his Preysense goggles. Using the Loader talent, Darrien spends his round reloading the missile launcher.

first things first about a formation: the overseer and any weapon specialists can be targeted individually, but it requires a Called Shot action, which is a full round -20 unless you have the applicable talents.

otherwise when you attack a formation, you hit a mook specifically, and not a specialist. I have to double check what a semi or full auto burst does on them. I'm at work right now, so I don't have the rules.

Jayne lays fire into the smoke, and the sounds of more of the meager squad dying are heard; the air filled with moans that go to silence, the smell of burned flak vests and charred flesh filling the air. The enemy seems to be on the ropes, but then the Ogryn emerges from the smoke in the direction the shooting is coming from and looks right at the nearest enemy, Tucker. The ogryn takes off in a stumbling gait charging right at the Sargent. "You hurt my friends!" yells the Monstrosity as it looms over Tucker. "I'm going to break your bones and eat your Marrow!"

This time when Abe throws the grenade, the rear end in a top hat in the carapace armor yells at the squad, or what remains, to scatter. However, thanks to the hereteknical modifications to the grenade's payload, and a few shots from Linara, There is suddenly silence from the smoke. Silence that is abruptly pierced by the shout of the Man in the second hand Carapace.

"I'm going to make you regret ever falling out of the sky you shitstain!" He moves through the smoke to the general direction that Abe scurried off to, and shoots off a quick burst from the stolen Arbites shotgun. It is at this moment that Abe realizes he is only hiding behind a small cot sitting in the open, which will provide him no protection. Thankfully, the madman misses, this time.

Sergeant Hammond Tucker

Tucker grins and circles left, sword purring, and recites a selection from a classic Elysian sermon.

"What greater gift than freedom? What greater kindness than to liberate the mutant of its filthy cage of flesh?"

All of which was just a distraction for Vin to sweep in from the Ogryn's left and jab her monoknife into its ribs. Not a significant wound for something so big, but enough to distract it for a second; Tucker lunges forward with an overhand hack, aiming to bury the blade in the mutant's arm.

Salvus Weber

As Tucker and the Ogryn fought, Salvus kept his weapon trained on the ogryn, waiting for the brute to hold still for a moment, and give him a clean shot. Beside him, Darrien lay down a hail of fire from his lascarbine, aimed upwards at the ogryn's head, to avoid hitting the sergeant. He's aiming at a small moving target, and naturally the majority of his shots fly off into the dark, but one does hit, burning a furrow below the ogryn's right eye. To an ogryn, a wound like this almost nothing - but the unexpected pain is enough to make him pause for a crucial second. Salvus, seeing his opportunity, sends a second missile winging off towards the ogryn.

Salvus takes a half-action aim and a standard attack. Darrien uses the Volley Fire order.

Linara Lyhte

Even from their high perch, the chaos going on below makes it risky to continue firing into the melee. Moreover, there is a prickling on the back of Linara's neck, a growing paranoia that forces here to grab the stubber with Ordo and swing it around the area, scanning everywhere for sight, sound or sign of approaching enemy reinforcements, stubber at the ready on a hair trigger to unleash a hail of lead on anything approaching them...

I'll make an awareness test from my elevated position/preysense goggles to pick out any approaching enemy forces attracted by the gunfire and explosions.

Tucker strikes out at the Ogryn, ripping through his flesh and his delivering a painful blow. The Ogryn Bellows out, "You hurt me, and my friends, I pound you into dirt now!" The mutant raises his large club above his head and lowers it slowly and predictably down towards the Sargent. Tucker bats it aside with his chain sword and slices the ogryn again. The Ogryn converts the parry of his weapon into momentum on a back swing, and nails Tucker on the rebound like the ogryn was trying to clean a rug against a tree; only the rug is a two meter metal bar and the tree is the carapace clad Sargent. Tucker is positive that he would be bruised come the morning, if not sooner.

Jose takes aim at the enemy leader. Jose nails him squarely in the torso, but the lasgun seems to have no effect on the stolen arbites carapace worn by the leader. Jayne's more powerful hellgun would likely have dispatched the leader, if it wasn't for the fact that the weapon was stuck venting heat. She instead takes time lining up a shot in case he is still standing once it finishes venting.

Abe raises his lasgun at the leader and thumbing it to overload, aims at his head and fires. thankfully (for abe) the leader didn't have the helmet that went with the arbite armor he wore, and the leader's head sizzles and burns. The problem this presents for Abe is twofold. First, it seems to enrage the leader, and second of all, the las bolt helps him narrow in on the Osprey in the smoke. He aims and taps the trigger twice, sending a cloud of shrapnel at the Osprey, but Abe manages to quickly roll out of the way.

If that Leader doesn't go down soon, he'll eventually finish off the damage the fall failed to do. Thankfully it does. Weber's Krak missile hits its intended target this time, the round penetrating the Ogryn's torso and detonating, showering the Sargent with gore. Freed from the Ogryn, and with only one target left, the group efficiently dispatch the leader.

The squad is free to survey the scene. If no defenders outside, it would be of little concern to destroy the antenna. Someone could grapnel up to the roof and destroy it, or Weber could make his way up the guard tower and get a good angle on it.

The squad could figure a way inside the concrete structure, though the large reinforced bay door appears to be the only entrance.

great weapons do 2d10 damage, and tucker got hit with one after the ogryn's first attack was parried, and he made the second furious assault hit. Tucker took 10 wounds after armor, leaving you with 4 left.

Once the Ogryn got splattered I just assumed you'd all dispatch the leader with no further wounds. Feel free to search around, loot the dead if you wish, and discuss your next move.

Half-laughing, half-coughing, Tucker gives his chainsword another rev to clear the teeth and wipes gore off his face with the back of his gun hand.

"You know, Weber, I don't recall a single poem of the saints where their duel with some hulking beast was cut short by a rocket. I had him on the ropes, and don't let my cracked ribs fool you. But I kid, lovely shot, well done. I'd say we should just topple that tower from out here and be done with it, but we still don't know what became of Tandem. I'm loath to bring the full wrath of the enemy down on us without giving him a chance to catch up."

Would it be possible to look for Abe's missing companion from up here, something like looking into the woods below with preysense goggles to see if we can see any sign of him?

"Keep duelling Ogryns, sir, and I'm sure you'll earn your place among the revered martyrs. I'd suggest that we should clear out the innards of the station first; this job is too important for half-measures, and if we only damage the antennae, there's a risk the enemy'll be able to repair the station. That'll give Tucker time to catch up with us, too."

Josephina

The first thing she does is to secure the perimeter. Thankfully it seems nobody else came running after that firefight, but Josephina remains alert just in case. That doesn't stop her from going over the dead. Considering just how useless her carbine was, it's probably a good idea to see if she can find something that hits a little harder. Something she'll ditch as soon as they're back on their way to base, of course. No sense in getting chastised (or worse...) for carrying "heretical" weapons into base.

Looting the dead. Probably not a good idea to swap armor, but a nice weapon could be useful. Even a regular lasgun would be an improvement from a Compact carbine :s

Jayne Canton

"The cooldown on this thing is going to get me killed one of these days. C'mon Yorke, help me check these bodies for souvenirs."

Werix
Sep 13, 2012

#acolyte GM of 2013

The battlefield cleared for now, the squad splits up and begins to survey the field. Jose and Jayne move into scavenge and gather mode. Being a vanguard attack squad and special operations team, this particular action isn't exactly new to the two Jays. In fact, the Ospreys are trained to try and scavenge weapons from enemy forces, so long as they are not clearly heretical. If stuck behind enemy lines for a prolonged engagement, the ammunition for their weapons can run out. Likewise, in situations like this, where the enemy is using a drastically different weapon, solid projectile versus las, firing upon the enemy with their own weapons can cause momentary confusion.

In search the bodies, it becomes clear that the rebels, as reported, are using rather standard solid projectile weapons with a copious amount of non-standard ammunition. Each of the regular grunts are equipped with an autogun and a stub revolver, each of which is fitted with a full metaled densely tipped projectile that would certainly give regular guard flak a run for its thrones, and could even be a threat to the carapace of the Ospreys. The squad leader has an arbites combat shotgun loaded with shells that contain copious amounts of shrapnel; obviously designed to maim more so than the average shot shell.

However, Jose and Jayne find a bit more than they bargained for while searching the bodies and camp. While they find no actionable intel, they do find quite a bit of propaganda. The propaganda takes two forms. The first form are posters that seem rather beat up and worn with age. Each of these posters contain stylized images of various mutants, all of them showing off their various disgusting mutations in the most positive of light. Most of these posters do not have words on them, obviously designed to be viewed by low intelligence mutants with no language skills, but some do have words. Many are just plan one word messages like "courage", "Strength", "Solidarity" and "Unity". The most wordy of posters has a picture of a three armed twist, missing a hand on one arm that says below it, "You put your safety on the line, they get all the rewards" with no Indication of who "they" are.

The other propaganda comes in the form of one poster, found in various sizes all over the camp. Even those not looting the dead see the poster, and are disturbed by it.

Weber Makes his way over to the vehicle bay sized door on the windowless rockcrete box that is the Relay and radar instillation. He sees a simple control panel next to it. He presses the open button. The display on the control panel flashes, "Please insert numerical passcode."

Abe and Tucker walk over to the western edge of the out-cropping to see if they can spot Tandem anywhere. They peer over the edge with their preysense goggles on, but they don't see any signs of heat down there. Either Tandem has moved on, is outside of range or wasn't producing any more heat. Thankfully that question is quickly answered when Linara still watching the switchback road leading up the cliff, sees a lone figure limp-sprinting up the road, weapon drawn. The Medic-scout quickly shouts, and Abe does his own limp-sprint over to see Tandem making his way up the road.

A few minutes later Tandem is with the others in the camp, clearly wounded, and also contemplating their next move.

Okay, so for you battlefield vultures:

There are 12 Autoguns with manstopper rounds
12 stub revolvers with manstopper rounds
one heavy stubber
one poor quality combat shotgun with aumputator shells.

Secondly: The damned propaganda poster isn't ... right. Everyone make a +20 willpower test. Success means you steal yourself against the poster, a failure means something about the poster, speaks to you. Gain either one corruption or one insanity (player choice) as you either find yourself wondering about Governor Kazarak or find yourself struggling with resisting the message.

Tandem is back, but considered wounded

Lastly, the door to the station is locked. A +0 Security test can bypass the security. Otherwise you might need to figure another way in.

The carcasses all get dragged together for easier pickings. Weapons are stripped and pockets run but it looks like discipline was very tight. Not even personal trinkets were in anyone's possession. That's curious, in and of itself. But what might explain it is the ugly scrap of paper slapped up all over the place. Standard phrases urging people to fight for the good of whatever, but it's an ugly thing that makes Josephina uncomfortable to look at. She quickly turns away and goes back to collecting the ammo for anyone trained in the use of autoguns. Once inventory is taken she turns her attention to the station.
