So I'm continuing my viewing of Ex-Aid. Up to 23 right now.

Ahahahahahahaha what the hell Maximum Mighty X is so incredibly ridiculous. I'm not even sure what I'm looking at but I love it. :allears:

EDIT: So much for Kuroto being a god. :stare:

On to episode 24!

I think my favorite translation quirk was when OT translated the Go-Busters' 'Go-BusterOh' as 'Go-Buster King'...

...only for the series to later introduce a mecha called Go-Buster King, so they just called it Go-BusterOh. :v:

The naming scheme actually worked out better that way, IMO. It fit better with the origins of the mechs and the show's theming, but still. Translation is an imperfect art, and we are lucky to live in a golden age of toku fandom with so many great teams blessing us with their work.

Starting episode 25 of Ex-Aid. You guys weren't joking when you said that Kamen Rider Chronicle was literally Pokemon Go, huh?

EDIT: Nico is still super annoying. I can deal with annoying characters if they actually add something to the plot, but...ugh. She's done next to nothing since her introduction. She's easily my least favorite character in the whole thing.

On to episode 26.

SHIN EDIT: Of loving course there would be a Gashat based on a dating sim. :allears:

Eh. She's just not doing anything for me. In the twenty-seven episodes I've watched, she's done nothing save for yelling at Taiga to beat up Emu, and then following him around and just generally being annoying.

Episode 27 is an attempt at doing something with her and trying to make you feel something for her, but...it's just falling flat for me. She's had no character development up to this point and really she barely has a character, other than 'mad because Emu beat her at Tekken'. Maybe she gets better from here on out, but for now, she's coming across as an unneeded and generally annoying side character.

Am I remembering the end of Gaim wrong? :psyduck: I thought it ended with Sagara going 'yo you have the power now Kouta, now destroy the world', and Kouta going 'no gently caress that' and transporting the entirety of Helheim to another planet at the edge of the universe?

It's been a while, but I very much remember Kouta going 'your system sucks I'm doing it my way' and just loving off to keep Helheim trapped on it's own world.

Maybe I need to rewatch the last bit of Gaim again...

A survey asked unmarried Japanese women which Kamen Rider actor they would want as their boyfriend.

The results were kind of surprising to me.

18% – Fukushi Sota (Kisaragi Gentarou, Kamen Rider Fourze)
17% – Suda Masaki (Phillip, Kamen Rider W)
14% – Takeru Sato (Ryotaro Nogami, Kamen Rider Den-O)
11% – Takeuchi Ryoma (Tomari Shinnosuke, Kamen Rider Drive) AND 11%- Hiro Mizushima (Souji Tendou, Kamen Rider Kabuto)
5% – Joe Odagiri (Yusuke Godai, Kamen Rider Kuuga)
4% – Jun Kaname (Makoto Hikawa/Kamen Rider G3, Kamen Rider Agito)
3% – Toshiki Kashu (Shouichi Tsugami, Kamen Rider Agito)

I, uh, can't say I was expecting Gentarou to be number one.

Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger and Kaito Sentai Lupinranger

according to some rumors, both Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger and Kaito Sentai Lupinranger will be a part of the 42nd season, it will be two storylines taking place in the same world and both team will alternate each week, with stories still connected and intersect with the other.

By its mid season the shows will eventually merge as one, forming one cohesive story.

Patoranger and Lupinranger will also have separate toy lines until the merge, and once the merging happens the new toys will be able to combine and interact. The release a third wave when the shows become one.

Another interesting note, is that one of the Rangers of Lupinranger being a spy for Patoranger ! And will bounce between both shows. That will give both sides a basis in story continuity, and may will be the reasons for the story and teams to merge.

This could be one of the coolest seasons of Super Sentai !!

It seems plausible, and if this is what the new show does end up being like, it could make for a pretty interesting season.

Did episode 39 of Ex-Aid have a different director or something?

This shot/reverse shot conversation on the rooftop between Emu and Parad feels really weird and out of place. I get what they're trying to do, but...eh. It seems off to me.

EDIT: Regarding Ex-Aid episode 40...

MASAMUNE'S RESET. WHAT. HOW IS THAT EVEN FAIR?

Yeah, okay, starting episode 41 and that's a hell of an asspull. Everyone's driver is back, Nico is cured, the worldwide release of Chronicle is canceled, and Hyper Muteki is gone. That's way too convenient for my tastes.

Feels like they forgot they only had a few episodes left and went 'whoops, guess we should just magically fix everything!'

For real, the last episode feels like fanfiction written by someone who just really wanted SPOILER to have a happy ending.

It basically was fanfiction. It's one of the few episodes that wasn't written by Urobuchi, and honestly they're all skippable, IIRC. They're mostly movie tie-ins and weird crossovers and I don't think any of them really tie into the plot?

I still like Gaim. It has it's issues, but I think it's a solid mid-tier series.

What? You must be kidding, or haven't kept up with current stuff because there's no real difference to how Akiko, Hina, Rinko, Satonaka, Kiriko, Mayu and Yoko were treated compared to Popipipopo and Nico, and in general Misora and Sawa were at least as bad as Yuki and Miu who are sort of at the bottom there. The closest you can say is hey, at least some of them got to be Riders themselves, but they had mostly no real thrust and the couple of times they had some level of plot-pushing competence, especially Popipipopo and Nico here, instead they shed the spotlight for some male character to take over instead.

Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't really lump Akiko in with the rest of them. She was awful for the first bit of the series but she toughened up pretty quick, and she actually made an effort to throughout W to go out and help with cases. Y'know, she actually tried to do detective work to help the detective agency. :v:

It's been a long time since I've tried to suffer through Wizard so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of it's issues was that due to it's setup, the villains literally could not make progress? That if Haruto failed even once he would fall into despair and then Dragon would take over and escape? So they kept making the aforementioned 'negative progress' because the show would have been over otherwise?

God, I remember being so hyped for Wizard before it's release. His suit design was slick as hell and W / OOO / Fourze had been a mostly solid series of shows. Wizard should have been able to knock things out of the park. :negative:

It hasn’t gone up on the site yet but it was just revealed at the 50th anniversary press conference that Hideaki Anno is writing and directing Shin Kamen Rider, a movie that's gonna be released in 2023.

Anno did Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman (coming later this year) and they both are pretty subversive and interesting takes on the franchises so it'll be really cool to see what he does with this, especially given it has more than a year of production time.

Official website: https://shin-kamen-rider.jp/

Judging by the image that pops up it seems like it’s basically Kamen Rider The First Version 2.0

This is the best fuckin' news to wake up to, holy poo poo.

Larryb posted:

That said, I wonder how they’re going to spin the original Kamen Rider story this time

If we're going off of Shin Godzilla rules, the movie is going to largely consist of the heads of Shocker sitting around Shocker HQ discussing how best to handle Kamen Rider. Every so often it cuts to the quarry and we see Kamen Rider kicking a monster into next week, before cutting back to Shocker HQ and all the Shocker heads debating what to do next.

I am one hundred percent down for this.
