I got Mothra for Christmas! I watched it, and y'know, I'd always kinda assumed that the original Mothra movie would have some kind of explanation for the foot-tall twins. I guess not, I guess that's just always been an inexplicable part of the Mothra mythos.

Couldn't they have just been like, Vernage speaks with Misora's voice now. Maybe added some reverb or something if they were worried about the audience being confused. It seems like that would've been way easier than rewriting the plot of the show.

If Aruto is a cyborg or something, that would suck. His whole deal is that he's a human who loves humaroids, and sees them as the fulfillment of humanity's dream. If he's not human himself, then that kinda fucks up the whole thing.

deadly_pudding posted:I'm just saying it's weird that Aruto seemingly popped out of existence as a tragic child and then popped back in as a failing comedian with No Life At All. Like, it's weird that he has no friends or anything until he meets Izu, but also doesn't think he has amnesia or something. His dad was a robot. And his grandad was a super rich dude who Aruto didn't seem to be very close to. I would assume it's a deal where Aruto's birth parents died early on, his granddad gave him a robot dad to replace them. And after robot dad died Aruto lived alone while being financially supported by his granddad.

People were talking about Aruto not having any relationships before the show started, but I think the reason Zero-One isn't really pooping for me is that Aruto doesn't have many strong relationships now. Ever since Isamu got over his hatred for Humagears they haven't interacted as much. And I feel like you could count the number of times Aruto and Yua have even talked on both hands.

lmao according to the little book that came with the Ultra Q bluray, Tsuburaya was enticed to make the show when the network promised to buy him some super expensive machine for making composite shots better. And I can believe it, I noticed while I was watching Mothra that a lot of the composite shots looked terrible

The turtle episode of Ultra Q kinda sucked. The plot made no sense, "turtle that's significantly bigger than that specific species of turtle gets but is about as big as the largest turtle species" is a terrible monster, and the way it moved was so obviously human it was kinda disturbing. But then the show won me back with the awesome rock monster in the next episode. Although the Tarzan part was weird. A 4 year old kid went missing in the public park near his house, and then fifteen years later shows up as a nonverbal feral man, and everybody just kind of accepts it? Like, they can't do anything about it because the only cop in town isn't fast enough to catch him.

I love that the giant mole episode of ultra Q the problem is just a giant mole. It does mole standard mole stuff, but it's way more destructive because it's a giant mole. One hole is enough to gently caress up a whole field. Instead of eating some crops, it eats all of a farmer's livestock. Giant mole. And then the response is insanely disproportionate. They shot 50 missiles at it to scare it so much it digs straight down to escape, all the way to the earth's mantle, thus being destroyed by lava and also creating a new volcano. And everybody just stands around smiling. We did it! No more giant mole problems!

aright, I finished the second disc of Ultra Q. here are my thoughts. Baron Spider: Standard haunted house story, but the ghost is also a giant spider. Good stuff Underground Super Express Goes West: Aww man. This episode should've owned. Great monster, great super train. But the kid comedy really drags it down. Like, when it all comes together and you got a kid trapped alone on a runaway super train with a monster that is violent but not malevolent, that's great! But there's also only two minutes left in the episode because they spent so much time on literal two kids in a trenchcoat antics. Balloonga: Really good. Almost to Mammoth Flower and Peguila Is Here in terms of me wanting it to be a full a movie I Saw a Bird: Not bad. Story was alright, and the city destruction, although it was very short, was fantastic. So many roof tiles getting blown off! Also a good chance for the crew to prove that that they can make a bird puppet that doesn't look as bedraggled as Litra Garadama: I love him. Tokyo Ice Age: Hell yeah it's my boy, Peguila! Make a Peguila movie Toho you cowards! I don't know if I've mentioned this before but even if I have it bears repeating, the lady reporter is total wife city.

I just found out there was a 200+ episode long Godzilla TV show where instead of guys in suits they just help up Godzilla toys in front of a background and wiggled them around. I desperately want it to get a bluray release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG8shc73XOQ

I don't know much about Ultraman, but I had seen images of Kanegon before. I watched the episode of Ultra Q that introduces Kanegon, and it wasn't bad. I haven't really enjoyed the kid antic episodes before this, but Kanegon's Cocoon was pretty good. The fantastic monster design helps. But It does color my idea of the future Ultraman series to know that Ultramen regularly have to deal with children who have been transformed into coin purse monsters because they were greedy. I never saw that Matt Damon movie Downsizing, but now I'm just gonna assume it's The 1/8 Project but not as good.

If a dub exists, like for Kabuto as The Divine Orator says, that would be a fun bonus to include on the disc but I'd prefer if they didn't waste time and money on making new dubs. Just put the shows on bluray with professional subtitles and I'd probably end up buying all of them.
