I like your style hombre, but this is no laughing matter. Assault on a police officer. Theft of police property. Illegal possession of a firearm. FIVE counts of attempted murder. That comes to... 29 dollars and 40 cents. Cash, cheque, or credit card?

On a different (I think) topic, I'm still interested in this:
I'm curious as what devs think of the whole 'games as service' mantra that's been coming from a certain quarter?
As well as exactly what the phrase "games as service" is intended to mean? I'm slightly familiar with the Software as a Service model, but mostly as "People call SaaS 'cloud computing' and they shouldn't because it's not what was originally meant by 'cloud computing'." Is it a reference to more subscription-oriented (or other continuous-revenue) payment models, the idea of continuing development past the official release date, both, neither? And, of course, thoughts? Good/bad/weird/irrelevant?

If I was interviewing with Sonic team, I'd probably forget to shut up about Chu Chu Rocket and Nights.
Definitely had a similar issue with volition right out of school talking about Descent. I got told at least twice flat out that they weren't going to make another Descent.
I just want you to know this made me laugh. I am a huge Saints Row fan, but I started with Freespace (and before that, the original Descent on a school computer), so I know the feeling.

2D animation also has a few advantages. In particular, getting good soft body secondary motion (e.g. capes, hair) is hard in 3D. It can also be tricky to get good squashes and stretches, if you're going for a more cartoony look. These things aren't impossible to achieve, but they are more work, while in 2D you just draw whatever effect you want.
For anyone curious about the work of replicating a 2D style with 3D models, I recommend looking at Arc System Works. This video runs through the basics of what their 2D artstyle was, and how that normally isn't reproduced with a 3D modeled scene, and the lengths they went to in building 3D models that would actually look like hand-drawn animation:

If you've got an hour and want more than the basics, here is the full GDC talk the other video was drawing on:

Can't ship a game that doesn't have an ending!
While no examples are coming to mind, I feel this is empirically untrue.
edit: I mean, you absolutely shouldn't, but I'm sure plenty of people have.
