CodfishCartographer posted:You know I have to wonder if Destiny 2's exp thing is just an extremely unfortunate bug that got WNF'd in QA, and since the game has loot crates it instead looks like manipulation at its worst. (being optimistic here) Well if the story that their response was to cut that poo poo out immediately then double the experience required for everyone it doesn’t look good.

Whistling rear end in a top hat posted:If you're the CEO of a publicly traded company, you can and will be ousted by your board of directors for doing things that cost a lot of money and get little return. Or your company can get sued by your shareholders for similar reasons. Once you go public, you're absolutely beholden to the people who buy shares in your company to grow it and increase revenue (and hopefully profit) in each successive quarter. Valve don’t have shareholders, do they?

Whistling rear end in a top hat posted:Every company does, it's just a matter of whether they're public or private. Valve is a privately held company. If they were public, I'm sure we'd start to see HALF-LIFE 2018, HALF-LIFE 2019, DOTA: STAR WARS, etc. and so on. Uh, Valve aren’t pumping out trash games but they are turning their popular stuff into microtransaction messes while not making new stuff at all.

I’m expecting one of the next Games-as-a-service inventions to be games where you’re expected to buy lots of microtransactions and season pass dlc but are only expected to play sparingly. It’s probably already a big mobile strategy.

Bungie were talking about wanting people playing around the release of new content and feeling free to take breaks in between with Destiny 2. It’s just an excuse because they hosed up on the amount of content available but it’s not impossible that they could be successful. I bet a lot of developers would be glad to bring in money but cut back on server costs and content creation. edit: World of Warcraft is notorious for letting the game rot for long periods of time between the release of the final raid and an upcoming expansion. People hate it but a lot of people keep subscribing during these dry months. LIVE AMMO COSPLAY fucked around with this message at 06:10 on Nov 30, 2017 |
