There should have been a consortium of scientists with world renowned reputations that warned us of increased intensity in the storms we now face. I'm turning to religion to save us

00z GFS is the first GFS operational to go far enough west to make landfall... on Long Island as a strong Cat 2 This run would also cause some grand storm surge.

I know it's clickbait, but the ambassador to the US said they evacuated all 1800 people to Antigua. Seems like human casualties were pretty minimal, but the island is completely uninhabitable.

Vox Nihili posted:'For first time in 300 years, there’s not a single living person on the island of Barbuda' Right now, initial estimates suggest that Barbuda will need about $200 million to recover. so it would cost less 2 fix than one of our planes that is used mostly to kill the ppl flying in them

I've been meaning to ask for years, but what does "invest" mean with respect to tropical storms? And how are they numbered?

The Glumslinger posted:I've been meaning to ask for years, but what does "invest" mean with respect to tropical storms? And how are they numbered? Invests are tropical waves that have a chance of forming a tropical cyclone because of their circulation pattern. They're essentially areas to monitor for the formation of a tropical depression. The numbering system is pretty arbitrary and forgettable but wikipedia has it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invest_(meteorology)

Jose is falling apart way faster than the models expected (reality suggests Jose doesn't survive in high shear cold waters but somehow the models think he does). Maria is strengthening way ahead of schedule. These changes will probably keep Maria on a less northern track than models expect. Maria also looks fuckin wicked on satellite and radar today.

dun think anyone who followed the last thread would be surprised jose is falling apart
