Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side, Chapter 18: Back to the lecture at hand Okay gang, I think I have my sea legs back under me. Let's try and figure out where we were when we left off back in 2015. 12/25: Status report  Academics: 129/150 Art: 145/150 Athletics: 136/150 Charm/Looks: 63/90 We have a year and change to pick up a total of 67 stat points. This should be easy.     Haruhi is still the best. That's good to know. 12/31: Oh is THAT what we did  Siren: When I think about how this year went... Siren: I worked pretty hard at my job. Siren: That's about all I can think of. Wait, that's the takeaway from this year, Ren? We're best friends with Harry, we've been on amazing adventures with Haruhi, and all you can think about is working at a flower shop two days a week?  Yuu: Evening, Sis! What's up? Siren: I was just thinking about some things. Yuu: Oh, okay. Hey, can we watch the red-white show again this year? I brought a TV guide! Siren: You're pretty gung ho about this. Siren: Say, do you remember which team won last year? Yuu: Uhhhhh, I think it was the white team! Probably. Maybe? Siren: Haha, sure. I hope you can make it all the way to the end this time. (later) Yuu: Two hours to the new year. Yuu: I'm tired... Yuu: No I'm not. I can stay awake. Yuu: I'm definitely making it all the way to the end this year... Yuu: C'mon, kid, you can do this. Siren: If you're sleepy, why don't you just sleep? Yuu: I'm not sleepy! Yuu: I know! Let's get the soba ready! I'll help this time. Siren: They should have the soba ready by now, I think. Siren: Can I change the channel? Yuu: What? No! Super Charger hasn't come on yet! Siren: (That's the end of the year. It felt so long, but went by in a flash. I wonder what next year has in store for me?) Continuity note here: Super Charger was an indie rock band you could see at the concert hall in February 2005 of the first Girl's Side. By this point, the end of 2007, they appear to have become a big enough deal that they appear on Kohaku. Siren: Oh good, so you are coming. Where should we meet up? Teru: I'll swing by your place. If you make me wait outside when it's this cold, I'm probably gonna die. Siren: Cool, I'll be waiting. Siren: (What should I wear?) Siren hasn't bought a new kimono since last year, so I'm just pasting that picture for reference   Teru: Ren. Happy something something. Siren: Happy new year! Teru: Whoa. You're in a haregi. Siren: Yep. What do you think? Teru: Huh? Um, uh, well, it doesn't look bad on you, exactly... Siren: Pick one, good or bad? Teru: Good. Siren: (why couldn't he just say that straight?) Teru: Okay, let's get out of here. If I stay warm and comfy in here much longer, I won't wanna go back out there. As you may recall if you re-read the archive, this is how last year went, when Teru was more neutral about things: quote:

Teru: Cool. I'll stay right here. Good luck.  Siren: You're not getting out of this one either, Saeki-kun. Teru: What? Do you see how long that line is? Siren: (I hope I get something good!)  Siren: (My fortune is...) Siren: 中吉, "Moderate luck". Nice! Siren: (What did Saeki-kun get?)  Teru: "Moderate luck", it says. Siren: That's good, isn't it? It lets you be optimistic. Teru: Then what about Great Luck? Is that worse? Siren: Ummmm... Teru: See? What's the "Moderate" part supposed to mean, anyway? Teru: And what about just regular "Lucky"? I don't know if it's better or worse than that one. Teru: This is all so lame. Siren: (I see he's getting this year off to a questionable start too.)  Teru: Alright, I got my prayer for the cafe's success out of the way. Teru: Say, what'd you pray for? Siren: That's a secret!  Teru: Fishy. What're you hiding from me? Spit it out. Siren: Sounds like it's a good time to head home! Teru: Hey, wait up!  Siren: Thanks for walking all the way home with me. Teru: You're welcome. Teru: So, do I get to hear what you wished for now? Siren: (I hope this year is a good one!) 1/6: A walk on a wintry beach This event took me a bit by surprise, mostly because this was all planned two years ago. How do I do this, again?  Big coat, short skirt, this seems fine, right? No?  Teru: Sorry I'm late. Were you waiting long? Siren: No, I just got here too. Teru: So you're saying I could've taken my time? Siren: No... Teru: I'm kidding. Wanna get going?  Teru: Awesome! There's no crowd, and the air is clear. I love the beach in winter. Teru: Let's go for a walk. Teru: Coming here when it's cold shows you a completely different side of nature, don't you think? Option 1: Makes me feel a little sentimental. Option 2: I wonder if we can find any sea urchins in the rocks? Option 3: Look at that couple over there, don't they look warm all snuggled close like that? As is often the case, there's one obviously bad and trollish response, and science demands that we must choose it. Siren: Makes me feel a little sentimental. Teru: Yeah, I guess it makes you think of summer, doesn't it? Teru: But I like it here in winter, too. Siren: (I made a great impression!)  Teru: I just haven't been able to wipe this smile off my face all day. Teru: It's gotten kinda late. I'll walk you home.  Teru: What do you want? You're heavy, get off. I tried this again in in a different save and he said "you can come closer if you want to", so I honestly have no idea how skinship works. Next time: Kitchen nightmares

Now that I've re-read this LP (I'd forgotten how beautiful the troll-off with Teru was!), I'm wondering, does Haruhi always go for Harry or does she choose different boys?

All of the friends in TMGS1 and 2 are tied to specific boys, yes (the ones tied primarily to the same stat they are, e.g. Fashion for Harry and Haruhi). The friends in 3 are completely different; they're actually your info person and your fashion tipster and also are extremely great.

I remember being warm to Flower Guy in the last iteration but rereading... he's just kind of a good buddy, while Teru is actually interesting. And I kinda love that the best way to get him is to troll him right back and otherwise not put up with his crap.
