One month ago you made yourself a promise: you were going to turn your life around. You were going to graduate from college, start your own band, and get a superhero girlfriend. Nobody thought you could do it; they said your forgettable name, lack of any personality, and dweeby looks would always hold you down. But you had a plan. You think you’ll start with a new name. Something more memorable, maybe completely original, to fit your new life. >Enter Name >Clevin O'Toole

I thought there was nothing Kazerad had left to show me that could make me dislike him any more than I already do, after such gems he's posted here like intentionally going to sites where people are drawing porn of his character and drawing custom ads for them to get them to start reading, or his lovely puppetmaster thing where he claimed Prequel was just an experiment in how much he could manipulate people and get away with it, or even that one time he tried to rip an artist off and pay them in gift cards to Red Robin or something and was super confused as to why people thought he was an rear end in a top hat. Silly me.

For anyone that has played the Prequel flash, is there rotoscoped animation? I remember that being one of the reasons Kazerad mentioned in the old thread about why it was taking so long to create. I'm curious if it's even in the final product at all.

The tiny character sprites look rotoscoped. Even the dog was rotoscoped! (The dog died during production, apparently, according to the credits.) It's actually a really slick production, visually, but it falls into a lot of the classic pitfalls that old lovely adventure games do. Specifically, it is very caught up in how clever its writing is and forces the player to read through all of it, no matter how trivial or out of the way. This is dumb and bad. If the player knows where to go or what to do in order to make the plot advance, a good adventure game lets them do it even if the character hasn't explicitly figured it out in-universe. Having to click on specific inventory item to make the cloak-recharge cutscenes advance is not great. Just play through those lines in order if there's no action the player is trying to prompt except for passing the time. (Also, it has an invisible player character with point-and-click movement that has collision but not pathfinding, so you can get stuck on things with no obvious means of escape.) Ultimately, it's very visually impressive and I would have been blown away if this was released in the same time period as Homestuck's early pseudo-adventure games. Now, I would much rather have seen this extremely linear chunk of writing just, uh, written out. The jokes are punchy but their impact is significantly decreased by how long it takes (and how hard it can be) to get from beat to beat. Literally just scrolling through text and image panels would have been a fantastic way to get through that material, and it could have been done in far less than two years' time. Kazerad, this was mentioned several times in the Prequel thread before it got closed, but your ideas are too big. If you want readership, which you obviously did at some point because of your ad-buys on furry porn sites, find the right balance of content quality and update rate to actually attract and maintain that audience. I don't know what happened to make this update take two years, but two years is just straight-up too long for an update, especially when you're constantly saying you're still working on it and not just going on hiatus for a while. Focus on the things you're good at, which is your writing and art, and stop massively overreaching on cool-looking but otherwise overblown gimmicks that don't run on the devices everyone uses to read webcomics these days. So, welcome back. I look forward to continuing to read this if you ever stop jerking off over your artistic visions.

Since it's a new thread I figure I'll tell everyone about a new comic I found called Critter Coven. I don't know much about Wiccan and magick subculture but I find it pretty charming and funny. The art and designs are great with a soft warm colour palette. The comic is almost at its one year anniversary but it's been very enjoyable so far. EDIT: Changed to the proper link DoubleCakes fucked around with this message at 23:43 on Sep 22, 2017 |

The distinction is that not only is he bad at making games, he's worse at telling a story, because there are members of his audience who waited a year to see the next part of the story who now can't cuz the game that shows it is broken So yea fair point

Thanks, the new site is much better. In other news, Endtown rolls on. It's back to the titular town in the latest arc with a cannibalistic mystery raising racial tensions. The creator doesn't seem like the kind of guy to make commentary on current events but it's fascinating how prescient the idea of a subterranean colony at risk because of conflicts between tribes of mutants. This is also the first arc in a while to not star Wally and his friends.

I'm a mid-tier essayist at best; the fact that so many people vehemently disagree with the things I write should be proof of my insufficience on that front. AellaGirl hits a lot of the same ideas on definitions and group dynamics in a much more tactful and experienced manner, as well as doing an admirable amount of data analysis on sexuality. If you're going to vaguely reference her, I feel it's only appropriate to directly link her.
