I recognized some Chick Tracts at a food truck I went to and had to explain to my friends why I was amused or knew what they were.

If you're enjoying A Better Place and haven't read Demons Mirror (Tapas link) already, I'd recommend it. Same author/artist. Unrelated story, but some similar themes.

I think it's an issue with how Allison composes his panels. He tends to center the speaker in a panel and have the person they're speaking to on the right so that the panel reads properly. You generally don't want to block the speaker's face in a comic since expression is so important and hiding the face can make identifying the speaker more difficult, thus the weird mouth covering.
I prefer the interpretation that everyone in Tackleford is just really, really bad at whispering.

This is different from tablet games and the internet today because,
You can't carry a TV around with you 24/7 and use it between classes, while you're on the bus, when you're in bed. I'm not saying that phones are the devil, but cell phones are a way bigger part of a kid's life than TV ever was.

I never set up an RSS feed so I check my webcomics manually, like an animal. It's part of the reason why I only check like five webcomics these days. I keep meaning to set up an RSS feed but ehhhhh

If I remember right: all the animal species in the world are sentient, but predators still hunt, kill, and eat prey.
This is true, and I think there's additional weirdness like it being illegal for prey animals to defend themselves with guns and stuff. Also some animals wear clothes and some don't which is really weird.

It turns into a choice between elaborate pages and more thought-out plots and smaller, simpler pages and weird half-baked plotes. Gives you respect for newspaper comic creators, or even people who try to carry the torch of newspaper comics on the internet.

Like the Kevin and Kell guy is weird with his world where murder is rampant (and now a character is getting charged in court for all his one-off gag murders? Weird) but he also runs two other comics at the same time and it looks like they all update daily.

You can go back, the only major revision was the last page, as far as I know. The latest page, episode 250, was previously Hannah killing Nina, which prompted her brother to use his up-till-now unused power of exploding. It didn't seem to kill Hannah, but it did take big chunks out of her -- which is why the upper Hanner here is missing a second arm and a chunk of her torso.

e: oh yeah 249 didn't previously have a second Hannah hand in the final panel

Parasocial relationships get crazy. I don't really watch Ludwig, but he put out a full video about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzyQbfh4t_8
Streaming/live content, comments, and the general connectedness of the internet (it's not like you could tweet at a celeb 30 years ago) are definitely exacerbating things, and while it shouldn't be necessary, it really is necessary for these lines to be clearly drawn. Especially at the end of this video where he talks about not getting too engaged, which is something I've seen in the vtuber space — can't find it right now, but there was a clip of someone responding to a comment along the lines of "I'm only happy when I watch your content" with kindly saying "that's not healthy, you need to figure something out."

e: to be clear I mean they phrased it more kindly than I did, not that what I said there was particularly kind

It actually has quite a lot of pages at this point (1598, 1126 in the main chapters), and it very conveniently has a timeline:

megatokyo FAQ posted:

Piro and Largo have been in Japan for about two months. Chapter 0 spanned fifty-two days and each chapter after that through Chapter 9 is one successive day. Chapter 10 picks up again nine days later. Chapters 11 and 12 are each one subsequent day after.
It's on chapter 13, but I don't think it's progressed much beyond that. Chapter 0 (129 pages) was 2.5 pages per day, chapters 1 through 9 are 38, 70, 88, 97, 105, 86, and 118 pages (all per day). Chapter 10 is 110 pages; chapters 11 and 12 are 125 and 147 pages; chapter 13 is currently at 13.

Overall that's ~19 updates per day. Cut out chapter 0 and it's ~47 updates per day (if you include the timeskip before chapter 10).
