More people should read Awful Hospital so I'll take you up on that

Awful Hospital: A story about a mother trying to find her son, who's sick. The story is planned out, but has heavy audience participation through user suggestions. Body horror and impenetrable terminology leave you just as freaked out/confused as the main character most of the time. The body horror isn't too bad, but enough to be genuinely creepy at times.

I've been meaning to make a thread for Awful Hospital for a while and maybe I'll actually do it one day

I can't read/watch it because this webcomic includes stuff not viewable on mobile in the year 2017. I'm not getting out of bed for this poo poo so I guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see the thrilling culmination of two solid years of work. Boy, I can't wait. :geno:

That's not a dig at Prequel by any means, it has a pretty decent chunk of fans. Homestuck's fanbase was just so loving massive it managed to accidentally ddos like four different sites within ten minutes each just trying to get to the flash. It was wild.

I thought there was nothing Kazerad had left to show me that could make me dislike him any more than I already do, after such gems he's posted here like intentionally going to sites where people are drawing porn of his character and drawing custom ads for them to get them to start reading, or his lovely puppetmaster thing where he claimed Prequel was just an experiment in how much he could manipulate people and get away with it, or even that one time he tried to rip an artist off and pay them in gift cards to Red Robin or something and was super confused as to why people thought he was an rear end in a top hat.

Silly me.

For anyone that has played the Prequel flash, is there rotoscoped animation? I remember that being one of the reasons Kazerad mentioned in the old thread about why it was taking so long to create. I'm curious if it's even in the final product at all.

"Why do people like this porn comic?"

Probably because they find it arousing! :ssh:

If that's directed my way, it's the webcomic part that confuses me.

It's not about the fact that it's porn, it's just that most webcomics update, what, one or two times a week? Maybe three? If you have a sex scene that lasts, say, six or seven pages, that's like three weeks before you can enjoy the scene as a whole. I had the same issue when Blaster Nation ended and I checked out their other comic to see if it was worth following, they spent nearly two months on a single sex scene. I can see people enjoying it during an archive binge or something but that sounds miserable to sit through, especially given that the comic appears to have an actual story it's trying to tell that apparently constantly gets put on hold for a month or two so people can gently caress.

Well I mean you could use the same argument for any action heavy scene lasting longer than four pages or so.

An action heavy scene with events unfolding is not the same thing as a sex scene, sorry. In an action heavy scene individual pages can still stand on their own to an extent, and even when things get bogged down like Fangz mentioned events are still occurring. Pages in a sex scene are too linked intrinsically to do that. The story is literally coming to a halt for weeks.

im permabanned poster avshalom. i first started reading something awful when i was about 12. by 14 i got really obsessed with the concept of "trump" and tried to channel it constantly, until my thought process got really bizarre and i would repeat things like "my rear end has pastel colours and rounded edges, Sad!" and "less cute, more nipples" in my head for hours, and i would get really paranoid, start seeing things in the corners of my eyes etc, basically prodromal schizophrenia. im now on antipsychotics. i always wondered what the kind of "liberal" style of something awful was all about; i think it's the unconscious leaking into the conscious, what jungian theory considered to be the cause of schizophrenic and schizotypal syptoms. i would advise all people who "get" something awful to be careful because that likely means you have a predisposition to a mental illness. peace.

Not only was there an entire community behind those sprite animations, I also at one point discovered there was an entire subgenre of sprite animation entirely focused around maplestory sprites.

They're actually incredibly well animated too, if you've seen sprite animation released in like the last five years or so (the best example that comes to mind is that one death battle series on YouTube) there's actually a pretty decent chance they're linked to that scene. It's pretty wild.

That’s actually a plot point explored in a side story, there’s a character that’s always kinda wanted to do cool magic poo poo like her friends but when she awakens and gets spells of her own it turns out the only reason she can even cast her spell is because there’s a shitload of ambient magic in the air where she lives. In any other circumstance she’d never be able to cast it period, but the story's established that magic has a flair for the dramatic, so...

I mean, spells derived from fetishes? The gently caress?

The comic is weird and a few characters end up getting magic that pulls from their ~deepest desires~ (weird gender changing poo poo) but the way magic is handled is that it gives you exactly what your subconscious wants until you accept it and then you can start getting different stuff. So a couple characters that have weird gender issues get gender stuff at first, an insecure girl starts out with spells about scoping out her surroundings, etc

It’s still really hard to ignore once you notice it like someone mentioned already but like any insane pet project that probably should have been let go ages ago, egs is nothing if not consistent with its own insane rule system

You can post them anywhere but I personally refuse to read webcomics on tumblr unless the css is heavily modified to have the usual navigational tools and a functioning archive. Even then it’s a maybe, given that tumblr can be weird about cropping images so you have to click on it to get the full thing. Blogs usually have the same problem w/r/t readability, I’d honestly rather read something on like smackjeeves or other similar sites that offer more easy to use setups. Most comics that start getting serious tend to break away after a while for the freedom having their own site provides anyway.

I used to have dozens of webcomics' rss feeds when Google's was a thing, but when they killed it and I tried to move to Feedly it never quite felt the same. I gave up after a few weeks and have around a dozen or so regularly updating comics I just check manually now.

It turns out when you have to keep track of stuff yourself it pairs what you're willing to put up with the gently caress down. There were a lot comics I was following that were incredibly mediocre but I put up with because rss made following them easier. I still throw interesting comics into a bookmark folder for later reading but don't usually find myself coming back to them. Just don't have the free time I used to, I guess.

1) Bun-bun is in fact Lord Sluggy, the ancient god of power from the forgotten kingdom of Mohkadun. After their chief god threw a hissy fit and removed himself beyond time and space, every other god found themselves at a loose end. Basically every supernatural figure in the comic ever (Uncle Time, the moon twin, etc) is one of the gods of Mohkadun gone "freelance."
2) Bun-bun was defeated by the holidays after nearly killing them all and thrown out into timeless space (again). He wound up following his past self to find the way out because he didn't remember it (because he beat himself up and gave himself head trauma). He is now hiding in a box in the spaceship Zoe and Gwynn took to get to space.
3) Somehow the comic's navigation became even worse.

I'm not entirely unconvinced Sluggy Freelance isn't real and that I just imagined it during a particularly bad fever dream

Later she kicked me out of the d&d group we were both part of because she wanted to run a game and my new job meant I wasn't able to make it to meetings sometimes which was pretty lovely of her but now I'm in a way better group so it all turned out fine on the end v:v:v

It’s hard to recommend it to new people because the hype surrounding it was very much a “you had to be there” thing but getting drawn into the whirlwind of hype that was homestuck was some of the most fun I’ve ever had with any media literally ever.

I dunno if a comic will ever match that level of insanity again tbh. Like I’m honestly not sure how a comic could whip people up into that level of frenzy again where they do things like accidentally ddos multiple sites (including a popular filesharing site) in an attempt to view a single update.
