Turbo Duels, and by extension Wheelie Breakers, is a sport for grown-rear end adults to compete in. Kids can duel the boring old-fashioned way until they grow up or get the Turbo Duel hoverboard.

For anyone curious, Chorps is referring to the Duel Boards:

Fun fact about the Duel Runners, or D-Wheels as they are known as in the Japanese version: The main characters' Duel Runners each have a unique name:

  • Yusei Go obviously belongs to Yusei.

  • Phoenix Whirlwind, known as Wheel of Fortune and later Volcanic Wheel of Fortune in the Japanese version, which belongs to Jack Atlas.

  • Bloody Kiss belongs to Akiza/Aki Izinski.

  • Blackbird belongs to Crow Hogan.
There are other named ones as well such as Sturm und Drang, German for Storm and Surge, which belongs to Sherry LeBlanc, Greiger's Duel Runner which named The Beast in the dub and is unnamed in the Japanese version, and Delta Eagle which belongs to Antinomy:

As weird as the Duel Runners were/are as a concept, I do like them. The culture around Duel Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh universe was itself already an exaggeration of professional sports culture in the real world and racing is a professional sport.

The fact that some Duel Runners such as the Yusei Go, Phoenix Whirlwind, Bloody Kiss, Blackbird, and Sturm und Drang are "hybrid models" where the Duel Disk can attach to the Runner for Turbo Duels and detach from it for Ground Duels rather than being permanently integrated into it fascinates me as someone interested in theoretical and emerging technology.

Even better is that this hybrid model became the standard for Duel Disks from the Synchro Dimension in ARC-V where it was combined with the normal model from that series which is my personal favorite Duel Disk model to begin with.

About this game... Creebon? Seriously? Creebon? They hosed up a Kuriboh's name?
What's worst is that as far as I know, the name was translated correctly in the actual card game and anime dub:

Also to be fair, Kuriboh has a lot of relatives:

And that's not even talking about the relatives exclusive to the anime/manga:

That's not even all of them. He left out Wretched Ghost in the Attic and the Winged Kuriboh evolutions.
To be fair, the former doesn't have "Kuri" in its name while the latter two are technically more related to Winged Kuriboh than the normal one.

That said, posting for the sake of do diligence:

Kuribon is also an oddity as it's not spelled with an "h" in the TCG.

In regard to the Sphere Kuriboh thing, Konami could have solve it the way later Harpies like Queen, Harpist, Channeler, and Dancer did by including the following effect: This card's name becomes "Kuriboh" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard.

The problem with that is that its actually significantly more limiting than just having the support work them innately.

There's also the similar but opposite problem with Red eyes black chick (who was recently renamed to Black dragon's chick) where now every red eyes support has to have the disclaimer doesnt work with red eyes chick even though its functionally irrelevant.

The "except "Red-Eyes B. Chick"" can be errata'd out and seemingly has for some of them. I'm honestly still hoping that Konami Erratas Toon Summoned Skull, Toon Mermaid, and Manga Ryu-Ran so their effects match the OCG versions like Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon did in Duelist Pack: Battle City.

The main difference is that the line "Cannot be Special Summoned unless you control a face-up "Toon World"." was removed and the line "Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing the same number of monsters needed for a Tribute Summon (normally #)." was reworded as "Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing # monsters, while you control "Toon World"."* meaning that after these Toons Special Summon themselves, they can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard with "Monster Reborn" even if you do not control a face-up "Toon World".

Only Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon received this in the TCG at this time and Toon Summoned Skull has apparently not been reprinted in Japanese since the ruling changing all of their effects was issued meaning its card text is still what it has in the ''TCG'' even though that text would not be correct under the current ruling.

*Manga Ryu-Ran and Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon have # as 2 being Level seven and eight respectively while Toon Mermaid omits " by Tributing # monsters," completely do to it being Level four. Summoned Skull would presumably word it as "1 monster" to match Toon Dark Magician Girl.

To be fair if Toons worked like they did in the anime it'd be too overpowered.

It's the same reason that the legal God Cards aren't as OP as they were in the anime despite replicating their main abilities (destroying all opponent monsters by Tributing two of your own, Gaining 1000 ATK and DEF for each card in your hand, draining opponent monster(s) 2000 ATK and destroying them if the ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, paying LP so that you only have 100 left to give Ra ATK and DEF equal to the amount of LP paid, paying 1000 LP to target one monster on the field and destroy it).

Hell, they were even willing to give Ra its Sphere and Immortal Phoenix forms to give it the ability to be Normal Summoned using three Tributes from either side of the field to that side of the field, then shift control to this card's owner during the End Phase of the next turn, Summon normal Ra with 4000 ATK and DEF despite Ra not being able to be Special Summoned normally and bring it back to life despite the aforementioned weakness.

The Gods can still wreck your face though as Pegasus did to Marik by turning Ra into a Toon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9UQrALFa00

To be fair, most of Yu-Gi-Oh's female cast got hosed over , some just more than others. Téa arguably got it worst since she was never allowed to be relevant in the first place. Hell, the fact that she wants to become a professional dancer is rarely brought up apart from like one filler episode and her duel against a penguin during a filler arc (yes, I'm being completely serious). Alexis and Mai had it pretty bad as well.

In fact the only girl to not seemingly get the shaft is Zuzu from Arc-V who had an active role the whole series.

Blaze Dragon posted:

If by whole series you mean the very beginning, sure. Afterwards Yuzu gets shafted badly and becomes a damsel in distress for the whole loving series. Serena gets treated better, but not by a lot.

You sure? Cause last time I checked, Zuzu still got to duel well into Arc-V among other things and was only a damsel in distress during the finale act in the Fusion Dimension and even after that point she was still relevant to the plot as she's the one that talks to Yuya within Zarc which in turn allowed him to break free of Zarc's control so Ray/Riley could defeat him.

Getting back to Téa though, the fact that she rarely dueled in a universe where your worth is based on your dueling abilities didn't help her popularity. And while her bashers accused her of making friendship speeches despite the fact that it was Yugi and Joey who actually did it most.

In fact the only time I can actually recall her doing this was her duel with Mai where she was standing up to Mai for Yugi after he lost to Kaiba because of a dirty tactic on Kaiba's part.

I mentioned earlier that Greiger's Duel Runner was unnamed in the Japanese version while the dub named it The Beast presumably because of how ridiculous it was.

Worth noting that The Beast was destroyed when he Dueled Crow Hogan, at which point he gets a second Duel Runner that is similar in design to it, albeit much smaller, and contains a sidecar for his siblings:
