The more I think about it the more I feel like probably the best joke in the show was Kraz's fate. The entire time I was watching him act so wildly inappropriately I was thinking 'How the gently caress is he still employed?' Then he gets fired instantly after the first episode is uploaded. I love how he STILL tried to act like the cool teacher even in his lovely garage apartment while lowkey begging for work. Also: "I mean as a teacher I can't say a student is....unbelievable hot so I won't but...wow dude" OldTennisCourt fucked around with this message at 13:56 on Sep 22, 2017 |

The line about how Dylan hates squishy toilet seats because it feels like you're pressing your butt against someone else's butt and pooping in their butthole made me loving howl. The way it was delivered was loving hilarious.

I've never seen or heard of squishy toilet seats before. Is that an actual thing in the US?

I just finished this. I thought it was absolutely amazing. It perfectly satirizes this new trend of narrative true crime shows/podcasts while also completely deconstructing it. I forget which review I read, but the guy said it was really good but it shouldn't have been marketed as a comedy because it's not that funny. I completely disagree, this is the hardest I've laughed at a show in a long time.

The handjob recreation scene was not only stomach cluntchingly hilarious but one of the best satires on true crime TV shows I've ever seen. Watch that scene and then go watch a couple episodes of Forensic Files.

The sincerity is what makes it so funny though, much like Nathan For You.

Finished watching this today and I echo the positive reactions. This show had the same show runner as Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous, very similar in tone of realistic exaggeration and bittersweet realism. I hope there's a season 2, but I have no idea where they would go with it.

I had to use one of these for a few weeks after I had major back surgery. Except mine wasn't squishy. It's because I didn't have the strength to get up from a sitting position that is as low as a toilet seat. Adding a few inches to the height of the seat made it a lot easier to stand up.

Sure, but making it squishy would probably make it harder to stand up again.

One thing that bothers me (whole show) is the lack of follow up on the roofie accusation. I think it's probably a missing piece of the puzzle, but not a pleasant one, and I can't tell if Peter's failure to look into it is intentional or not.

It's said a bunch of times that you can't believe a word the guy says as it's all a way of trying to fit in. And yes, I'm one of the 'not laughing that much' guys but the handjob recreation was definitely a time I did. And the 'bad idea' line was great. They had to play it straight and just rely on the absurdity of the situation for the majority and I respect that.

I like how social media became a panopticon of sorts and they were able to piece together information because everything had been exhaustively documented. The gathering of evidence seemed very organic and didn't stretch belief. Soooooo glad social media didn't exist when I was in high school.

I feel like assembling a timeline of a frat party from videos posted on social media to see who was guilty of the crime of the week would be something they would have done. And then there would be a B plot of Tutuola making fun of teenagers with their Snapgrams and then someone would track him down through his Twitter posts.

They also seemed pretty plugged in to what social media kids actually use, as opposed to making up a bunch of fake social media brands and having 32-year-olds playing teenagers get caught using Tweetface. That's the first time I've ever seen Twitch or game streaming used as a plot point. I'm old as hell and don't know poo poo about kids these days, but the show seemed very authentic.

Yeah, they clearly put the effort into not making an embarassing alternate social network, which goes a long way in suspension of disbelief. Everyone using Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter works fine.

They go so, so much right... but they used Segoe WP, the font used in Windows Phone, for the iMessage sequences. *eye twitches* They got everything else right, though. Besides the private Twitch stream, those have apparently been disabled since 2013. And I don't think Twitch streams are geotagged, either (but that's irrelevant since she's clearly in her bedroom) asecondduck fucked around with this message at 16:36 on Sep 25, 2017 |

I know we're pretty cold on Alan Sepinwall these days but he finally got around to American Vandal on the TV Avalanche podcast he does with Brian Grubb. They both LOVED it, and he found the perfect comparison: "Galaxy Quest for True Crime docs." That's exactly how I'm pitching it from here on out. It's absolutely bang on.

A parody that manages to be both completely brutal in nailing every single cliche, but clearly done from a place of love, to the point where it's a great example of the thing it's trying to parody.

I guess he could have got them from the original uploaders that had them saved on their phone but still a bit of a stretch

I binged this, and loved it. 'The Galaxy Quest of true crime' comparison fits perfectly especially since it ultimately winds up played straight with Dylan's life ruined by the accusation and him falling into the role society assigned to him. It's not about dicks...it's about the justice system. Somebody pointed out on Twitter that Christa's cast switches legs. Continuity error...or proof of her guilt?

Just finished binging this show last night. Goddamn I can't get over how good it was! I'm recommending it to everybody I know, especially if I know they watched Making a Murderer or listened to Serial. The casting, writing, acting, and directing were all perfect. As a part time teacher I spend a fair amount of time with high schoolers, and I just really loved how three dimensional all of these characters were.
