University of Illinois got their spit test approved for EUA (for real this time, they tried to piggyback on Yale's test back in August and well we know what assume makes).quote:Pioneered by a team of researchers in Urbana-Champaign, the covidSHIELD test requires only a deposit of saliva instead of an intrusive nasal swab. It takes minutes to collect the sample and provides results within 24 hours of the sample reaching a covidSHIELD lab. The test notifies individuals of the presence or absence of the genetic material contained in the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Test costs range from 20-30 bucks a test and any CLIA certified lab can process them. The test has done a pretty good job of keeping infections low on the various Illinois campuses by detecting outbreaks early.

Yay! I was wondering why only university campuses were using that test and no one else. I thought it had already been approved. My wife works for UIC and has done this test multiple times and it is so much faster and easier than the other tests.

Decided to look up my ballot for the upcoming local elections, and wow I knew the suburbs are more republican leaning than the city, but yeesh. No democratic candidates for nearly any positions, it's republican vs "independent" which I then researched and they're also republicans.

Bonus points for the fine being less than the bribe. We really need to up punishments for politicians for all election violations. It's a loving travesty that someone can get elected to office while breaking every election law along the way, and they don't even lose their seat when they're caught.
