https://globalnews.ca/news/3761000/florida-girl-fatally-shoots-self-candy/ [quote=TAMPA, Fla. – A 4-year-old Florida girl has died after accidentally pulling the trigger of a gun when she reached into her grandmother’s purse for candy. Yanelly “Nelly” Zoller died Sept. 14 at the Tampa home of her grandparents, Michael and Christie Zoller. Her 22-year-old father Shane Zoller told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday that she just wanted candy. Tampa police told the newspaper they are investigating the case, but have no reason to doubt Zoller’s story. Shane Zoller says he was in high school when he became a father, and if his parents had not helped with Nelly, he would have had to drop out of school. He says Nelly was “attached to her nana’s hip” and loved staying at her grandparents’ house. Zoller shared custody with the girl’s mother.] [/quote] Lmao America is awful

When I was a ten year old my uncle had a gun rack that was complete and total free access, I remember it like yesterday, I would grab a shotgun and a couple of slugs and just blast at the air in the field like a munchkin lunatic, those were truly the good old days. Now I realize I am truly fortunate that I did not explode my brains out of my skull and that my uncle was a terribly irresponsible man.

EugeneJ posted:We had a "Gun deaths in America" thread but mods closed it because how dare you point out things like that so often Well, this isn't a gun deaths in America thread. It's about a 4 year old girl shooting herself, probably in the face, trying to get candy out of her grandmas purse. This 4 year old should have known that every responsible citizen has a fully loaded firearm within arms reach at all times, off safety.

Actually safeties don't really matter if you carry in a holster.

Revolvers don't have safeties, but as far as I know some people who carry for self defense intentionally carry guns without safeties, or with the safeties off. The logic being that a gun in a proper holster won't go off, and that there's one less step when you need to use it in a dangerous situation. Others carry guns with safeties and train to disengage them while drawing (also from a proper holster). This poo poo was just lying in a purse though.
