AI seems way, way more willing to engage in this game, which is nice. Between that and the sheer number of stacks the various delf, helf, and pirate stacks the AI has floating around in my VH Tyrion game, I'm finding fun battles are a much more frequent occurrence. It maybe goes a little too far though as the AI keeps march stancing and parking right next to my stacks to get smashed.

Did they get AP in later editions of TT? When I played, Shadow Warriors were just skirmisher archers (in TW terms that's vanguard and loose formation) and iirc Sisters of Avelorn (called Handmaidens of the Everqueen at the time) were just Seaguard with better stats

What are you feeding your phoenix? I bombed the poo poo out of a similar battleline, landed all 10 bombs right in the middle of loads of troops in quick succession, and it did maybe 10 or 20% to each. I disbanded it after that, because that was pretty much perfect conditions and it still wasn't very impressive

What does Vaul's Hammer actually do? I used it on some enemy ladders during a siege thinking it would knock them over or something, but there was just a flash of light and that was it.

If you're on defense, use it on siege towers to one-shot them. If you're attacking, use it on a unit on a destructible wall section to one-shot the wall and take a good chunk of the unit with it. It's pretty dumb in that you have to target the unit, not the wall section. If the unit flag is over an indestructible section of wall it does nothing. If there's no unit flag on the section you want to blow up then you're poo poo out of luck

The AI is as bad as ever at allocating its level ups. When I confederated a high-level Teclis he'd completely ignored his spell line in favour of spending 6 points on the first section of the blue line (including 3 points into cheaper recruitment :ughh:) and 9 in the first half of the red line. He had a few levels left so I got him some spells but I'm one point short of being able to get the capstone for that line at level 40 :negative:

That and if you don't take air vs. high elves it's kind of easy to miss that they didn't take it since it means they can't cast tempest anyway and all high elves seem to take high magic since apotheosis works really well with their comps and unforging is required against some lords like Malekith, Mazdamundi and Skrolk.

Wait, unforging actually does something? Is it based on them having magic items or something? The tooltip doesn't say anything to that effect, it just describes it as a single-target nuke like soul leech, except any time I've cast it it's only taken off 1 or 2 pixels of health bar.

OK, I'm sure something in the "pursuing fleeing enemies" mechanics has changed, because good god do units feel terrible at it now. Lots more blobbing, units losing orders and going idle, and surprisingly, your units can take damage even when killing off routers? Something's not right.

Pursuing has been horrible in Total War since at least Shogun 2, maybe longer. Taking damage when pursuing has been a thing for at least that long too. I remember reading somewhere that fleeing units can fight back with a massive stat reduction but still inflict a little damage. I haven't noticed any difference in TW2, it's just as awful as ever.

I'd be on board with ditching the last chance battle, except for one thing: after the final Skaven ritual failed in my game, they got to try again. Fair enough, except the ritual only had one city listed, and it was already a ruin. It stayed ruined for the entire 20 turns and the ritual completed successfully. In that case I was fine with having a last chance battle, because that would have been a bullshit way to lose. I'm assuming it was a bug, but still.

This sounds like a case of intervention armies not knowing how to uncover skaven cities rather than it being a genuine ruin.

Oh, do Skaven get a mechanic where their cities appear as ruins? That would make sense. I've only played as Helfs so far so haven't had much interaction with them. Still doesn't explain how they can ritual with only one city. Unless the others were hidden because they were also "ruins"? That doesn't seem consistent with the one that did show up though.

Can the other faction of your race even do rituals? Fragments should just be shared between same-race playable factions and the required number boosted a bit to compensate. In the HE intro cutscene, Teclis goes to Lustria to help find shards, it doesn't make sense he can't actually share them with Tyrion if the latter is the one doing the ritual.

You don't need to play the first at all. They're very similar but feature different races and different parts of the Warhammer world, and 2 has slightly more polish. However, CA will soon be releasing a combined map featuring all the races released so far. If you want to play that you'll need both games.

e: come to think of it, you could turn that bug to your advantage somewhat. Boot Teclis from the army, put some lvl 1 scrublord in charge instead. Disband every other unit in the army. You're still paying upkeep for an extra stack and a lord, but the lizardmen are paying more.

It makes sense though, you're adding green troops to a veteran unit, so the average troop quality is going down. You can manage it somewhat by topping up one depleted veteran unit from another. The second will still end up losing some veterancy but you will eventually be able to develop a core of seasoned troops this way.

This is interesting info. Though even with this cheat sheet I'm not sure it's worth bothering with treasure hunts, because chances are you just end up getting one of these many garbage events with nothing noteworthy. Not sure what they were thinking with these 500-1000g rewards. That doesn't even pay for the turn of upkeep your army just spent screwing around with this. The ritual currency might be nice if the race actually mattered, but it doesn't at all.

Treasure hunting should be a hero action, not an army thing. Even then finding gold would barely cover upkeep, but at least you'd presumably be getting some exp as well
