Also, gently caress it. The Edmonton Oilers will win the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Going to go all-in on this, even if the Oilers made moves that counteract such an act (Chiarelli :argh:).

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Atlantic

1. Boston - Strong possession team, Bruce Cassidy had them playing very well when he took over and I expect that to continue
2. Tampa - Tampa's a scary team when healthy, even if they lost Drouin and signed Girardi
3. Montreal - Carey Price's gonna drag this team into the playoffs yo
--------------------
4. Toronto (WC2) - Improvement of the kids helps keep them in a playoff spot
5. Buffalo - They take a step forward, but they're not strong enough to make the playoffs yet.
6. Ottawa - I feel that they're just Erik Karlsson and nothing else and were fortunate to make the playoffs and ECF last season
7. Florida - Dale Tallon's blowing it all up!
8. Detroit - Ken Holland, NHL GM

Metropolitan

1. Pittsburgh (East/President's Trophy winners) - No reason to bet against the back-to-back Cup winners when their closest regular season competition (Washington) got worse.
2. Washington - The window's looking closed, but they're still going to be a really good regular season team.
3. NY Islanders - The loss of Capuano and the gain of Eberle helps propel the Islanders into the playoffs.
--------------------
4. Carolina (WC1) - I think their gamble on Darling works and helps them return to the playoffs
5. NY Rangers - King Henrik is getting older, they've traded away their top center in Stepan and I'm unsure that the whole of the team can keep up in a competitive Metro division.
6. Columbus - I'd bet on the team that showed up in 2017 to show up this season, and not the team that showed up in 2016.
7. Philadelphia - I originally had them 6th, but then I remembered that their goaltending duo was Michal Neuvirth and Brian Elliott. Neuvirth was bad last year and Elliott has sucked for every non-Blues team he's played for.
8. New Jersey - They're rebuilding, and the Atlantic's really tough. Recipe for disaster but a high draft pick.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Central

1. Minnesota - Hard to bet against a Bruce Boudreau team having regular season success
2. Nashville - That top 4 D is very sexy when healthy, even if their scoring is not up to par.
3. Dallas - The Stars are healthier this season and Bishop is a better goalie than Lehtonen or the departed Niemi
--------------------
4. Chicago (WC1) - They lost Hossa, Hjalmarsson, Kruger, Panarin and TvR while picking up Saad and Murphy. I think their time as a threat is done.
5. Winnipeg (WC2) - I think their goaltending won't be as atrocious as last season and help them towards another first round sweep a playoff berth
6. St. Louis - They've just been getting weaker and I think Winnipeg ends up overtaking them for 5th in the Central
7. Colorado - Has Joe Sakic been fired yet?

Pacific

1. Edmonton (West winners) - McDavid and Talbot are going to carry the Oilers, baby
2. Anaheim - Admittedly, I thought they'd be forced to lose one of their top young players but McPhee sucks, so a strong team still remains.
3. Calgary - They upgraded their D, but their forward depth is still suspect and goaltending is still not great.
--------------------
4. San Jose - They're older and missing Marleau. They're going to miss out on the playoffs.
5. Los Angeles - Hard to know how they'll do with John Stevens coaching them instead of Darryl Sutter, but I don't think it leads to a playoff berth.
6. Arizona - John Chayka's taking this team in the right direction, but they're not ready to compete.
7. Vancouver - Canucks fans are hoping for 31st. Naturally, the Canucks will overperform and get like 28th or something.
8. Vegas - Not a big fan of the selections George McPhee made.

I don't think I like anyone that much this year and the Rangers seem right there with the other contenders.

I mean I guess the Penguins are still the best team on paper but they barrrrrely got through Ottawa and Washington last year and looked like poo poo for a lot of the Nashville series I don't see a threepeat.

Like it seems strange to say with a two time defending Champ but it's super wide open this year.

I kinda cheated because when I was putting my predictions together, the first news of, "Jagr and the Flames are talking" had just come out.

Dallas finished below Winnipeg last year so on your model it's impossible that they have less of a point increase.

And all the confidence in Dallas from you guys really warms my heart after last season. Last season... *shudder*

Not losing approximately 500 games to injury and having something resembling an NHL goaltender will do wonders for them.
