But wow, the sincerity-to-gag ratio for that ep was the highest it's ever been on the show, and that made it unexpectedly great in a way different from other great Nathan episodes.

The voiceover and double-shot that's like "When you focus on your career so much that you have nobody to connect with" or whatever was some high level self-critique.

Beautiful episode. Really liked Nathan's arc this season, how the show has an awareness of its increasingly grandiose plots, and how that fact is woven into the story of his character

Wait, tour? Is she a dancer too or is roving escort a viable career option for some folks?

I've never hired an escort, but I can confirm that many of them do travel from city to city. I guess being the new girl in town can be more lucrative than just relying on regulars, especially if you travel to wealthier areas, or to a place you expect a lot of unaccompanied men to be like a big convention or something.

I live in Little Rock and freaking LOVE Nathan and I am so sad that he was apparently here for weeks and I never ran into him in bar or something. I knew the park he met Maci at. A girl was recently shot there through the leg witha hunting arrow. GO HOGS. Lol. Seriously, I also know that psychic he saw and I used to work in the same building as her. I am surprised they didn’t show it, it’s right by the Ville Marre, the house that was on Designing Women.

I love u Nathan. Please come back and make an honest woman of Maci and live here forever.

Am I the only one who gets Robert Durst vibes from Bill? Not that I think he’s a serial killer, just a dude who got burnt out from the LA thing. Strong episode.

I love that Nathan sometimes ignores the premise of his show to instead present a hilarious biography of a strange, endearing LA individual. We learned so much about Bill this week, and I really enjoyed how sincerely and evenly the story treated him. This felt like a very positive story to tell.

Bittersweet, perhaps. He was never mocked for his decisions, although Nathan's reuse of him on the show is/was a joke in and of itself, as was cutting the worst parts of his impressions into the show. This isn't a story anyone else would tell, which is sad, but it puts a very human face on a recurring gag. I hope that after all of this that Bill is happy, and that Nathan is happy with whatever he decides to do next whether that's another season of this show or something altogether different.

Yeah but he made it very clear that Bill constantly shows up at Nathan's house or studio and just hangs out, it seems pretty mutual to me. And the guy is 78 or whatever, I'm sure he's grateful for any work and paycheck and attention he's getting.

I hope him and June went on more dates :3:

Nah, the bar was empty and he asked politely.

The bigger issue is how creepy and pushy he got during the Frances Rehearsal.

That was super creepy, and I was kind of stunned that Nathan was willing to take him to see her after that, especially without the camera crew. I couldn't help thinking that the ending with him being satisfied with a phone call seemed awfully convenient given that he seemed like someone who should be nowhere near her.

Anyone feeling bad about the way the show used him probably shouldn't worry too much given that he not only continued to hang around after his earlier appearances (as other people noted), but he seemed to be kind of manipulative himself, as when he showed up with a gift and then immediately asked for the phone number of the actress who played Frances. Plus this is a guy who gave up love (at least in theory--he was already cheating on her) for fame, so a little embarrassment for the kind of exposure he got, including a live showing of this episode in front of a sizable audience, probably felt pretty good to him. His niece didn't seem to have any problem with what was going on anyway.

Probably because the guy that gave up the love of his life to go to Hollywood is finally getting a role on a tv show.

Is there anyway for Canadians to watch this show? MUCH has the 4 newest episodes up, I want to watch it from the beginning. Most websites allow you to login with your cable provider, for some reason Comedy Central Canada doesn't have that up and running, despite suggesting that full episodes are available.

It was a great episode, but the cringe finally got to be too much for me. I had to skip through a fair amount of the preparatory acting session and maybe half of the phone call itself. The fact that Bill took off to LA and cheated and obsessed and had a bizarre sense of entitlement just really disturbed me. The escort kiss was downright pleasant in comparison to Bill's winning personality on full display.

When Nathan Fielder had a markedly stronger sense of social awareness than you do, y'all got issues.

This was a REALLY interesting and crazy episode of television. On one hand you have the simple hook, which is a road trip and search for a lost love. But then it ends up as this weird meditative thing where Nathan and Bill sequester themselves in the middle of nowhere and really explore what's real and what's fake. Bill ends up falling for an actress who plays the woman he supposedly loves, and Nathan ends up with a woman whose profession is literal performative love. The ending is filmed in an uplifting way but in reality both main characters have settled on a fake version of what they really desire. And the whole thing isn't scripted, it's real! Or is it? Nobody knows and that's the whole point!

Yeah, I think the hooker scenes were his only real comedic release for the entire episode. He clearly saw the comedic potential of finding Frances, but somehow I doubt even he thought it would take the turns that it did. The hooker stuff allowed him to get completely into character for probably the only times in that 90 minutes of television. I dislike cringe in general, but I thought they were hilarious.
