I think I somehow was able to skip phases 2-4 of the robot boss fight. I had fought him like normal up until his heart popped out after breaking his stomach, chest, and head. Then, I did the ex-super attack while I was using the bombs right on his heart, and then the entire fight ended. Whole fight lasted 47 seconds.

This game has to be one of the best streamer games I've seen in awhile. I'd never play it because I'm not into platformers/boss rush games but the visuals and music make it a joy to just leave running in the background.

If you want to see someone do the entire game in one sitting with all the ups and downs that entails (and not be completely poo poo at it or have a horribly grating voice or any of the other awful habits most streamers have) I highly recommend the Brownman stream on Youtube. It's about 10 hours and he eventually gets an A+ on all the bosses.

And yes, he does make the dumb joke of putting the bit cup on his head. Chat gets what it wants.

Vinesauce goes into an old time radio voice and mic effect during his streams of the games sometimes and it fits perfectly.

The train fight was great, but I also had to use the homing bullet because I couldn't get past the third phase at all (it also ended up being super useful during the last phase, although I think if I didn't use it I still would've had an easier time than the third phase). I totally got hit early in phase 3 though because I was too awestruck at how good the animation was at the train :v:

The homing bullet feels like cheating so I don't like using it often but it's really powerful :(

edit: Does King Dice force you to do all these fights over again if you mange to get to him and die to him? I haven't even gotten halfway yet, but I'm not gonna enjoy that if that's the case.

The horse jockey fight can gently caress right off with all the poo poo that scrolls past you in front of the camera :colbert:

edit: Are you loving kidding me with the start over option on the wheel. gently caress oooooooooooff

edit: You do have to start over at the very beginning :( Game devs PLEASE stop doing this it is so irritating. Like none of those mini bosses were all that hard but having to go all the way back like that if you die is so tedious

Yeah I take back some of my complaint about, after going through it a few times. Some of the fights just take longer than others (the cymbal monkey) and the whole process just feels a bit tedious to get to the final phase, in a way that doesn't with the other fights in the game. Probably because it breaks it up into multiple fights so it feels different.

The hardest mini bosses in that section I found were the horse jockey skeleton and weirdly enough the very first one, the 3 drinks. The horse jockey just because of the stuff that obscures the camera, and I found it really hard to avoid the drink attack where it spills on the ground?? Like I couldn't time that to save my LIFE.

The easiest ones are by far the stack of chips and the roulette wheel. Especially cause the smoke dash just completely ruins her entire gimmick

I really enjoyed King Dice myself. I can see it being infuriating if you can't nail down the timing for getting what you want on the die though.

Hint: if you get Start Over you can usually skip any and all fights by rolling well because there shouldn't be too big gaps between safe spaces to get past with rolls of three,

King Vidiot posted:

Someone earlier in the thread brought up the sound design and I think their complaint is spot-on. Something about the way the bullets all kind of sound muffled adds to the sort of "disconnected" feel of the game. There's not a lot in the way of feedback for weapons hitting bosses. I know that in Gunstar Heroes and Metal Slug, which the game takes a lot of cues from, all you get is that flashing effect and projectile "poofs", but it might've worked better if you had enemies react to being shot the way they do in something like Parodius. It would've been more effort to animate, sure, but not that much more. And they really needed better, and louder, sounds for the weapons. Also maybe a different design for the projectiles for the bosses and the player because they seem sort of detached from the aesthetic.

Something about cuphead was putting me off, and I think it might have been this.

I'm also not a huge fan of having the kinds of RNG that this game has, where you get a branching set of attacks a boss can do and it picks one, so sometimes you fight djimmie and he pulls out the easy as gently caress to dodge swords or he pulls out the scattergun of random garbage that's much harder to deal with if you want the parries. The delta on that split is really big, and there were times at the end I just reset immediately when it was the cats because gently caress those cats. Then you have poo poo like the baroness where you just won't fight like 2 of her dudes, so better hope you get the jawbreaker.

Also because of how the game is structured, if you gently caress up in the first 20 seconds or so of a fight and get hit once, it's feels better to just toss that attempt in the heap and reset. This happens in the run n gun levels too, like in the tree climb one where in order to get the gold coin you have to parry off of the bouncing beetle, but if you miss it, guess what? There's no way to get that coin. I've walked up that hollow and figured I could just follow a pink guy down for a second shot at it, but nope, they all roll into a hole before getting there. Either leave it like a scrub or restart now because gently caress you.

Game's still like a 7/10 and the art style is really neat, but I don't get the constant blowjob it's getting in every review I see and every post about it.

(Also, the parry here is a lovely way to add mechanical depth to your game and sucks, fite me)

I finished this last night. It took me about 6.5 hours and I ended up with 98% completion. I looked at a guide to pick up the last few coins I missed. I think I died 200 times or so.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, and the length felt pretty good to me. It didn't seem padded out, but the run and gun levels did feel weaker than the boss fights. There were lots of cool little homages to old games and different genres, and catching some of those references was a lot of fun. Hopefully they release some more content for it.

I thought the boss rush would be really annoying, but they were all mechanically simple enough that it only took me a few tries.

I agree that some kind of mechanical feedback on shot hits would have been nice, and the RNG on some of the fights was problematic. Some of the attack pattern combos were brutal late in the game (the sea lady with the squid on her head comes to mind).

This game reminded me quite a bit of Furi, though Furi is more mechanically satisfying and wasn't as reliant on memorization.

I agree. None of the dice king bosses have the mechanical complexity of any of the other bosses in the game. You're more likely to gently caress up a dice roll than take a bit once you've seen each of the fights.

in some ways getting a pacifist rank on levels is actually easier than getting an a+/s, since you get the p regardless of your parries/damage/time ratings

the hardest part is generally stacking up super meter to fire off invincibility to get past minibosses blocking your way

You can just go forward to the right up the slope a bit, then jump-dash to the left to get it. I know because I did that on every run of that level because I always pop that dumb beetle with a stray bullet.

Yeah, the only time I parried during that part of the fight was the in between sections to move the cart to where I thought the head was gonna be. If I was wrong well I just sat there and waited. I didn't parry the stupid bricks during that at all, it's just too hard not to get hit. If you're in between the hands, if you just stick to the edge of the platform, the hands won't touch you. I never really had a situation where the brick is coming at me the same time as I'm in danger of the hands

The first few times I got to King Dice himself I thought there was no loving way to win that fight, but after 3-4 attempts, I finally got him down. gently caress YEAH!! Eat poo poo devil!! YUSSSS :toot: :toot: :toot: :toot: :toot:

I'd probably put him at #3 in terms of how difficult I found the bosses. The clown still took me the longest I think, and the bee took me second longest, with this being the third. I still feel like the clown is the only one where the RNG truely hosed me and I didn't feel good when beating him. The other bosses though, it was such an awesome feeling when you finally beat them, especially this last fight with the devil. Literally going YES and doing a little fist pump irl. GOOD poo poo.

The animation on the last two phases for the devil are so good too. The bird had the best music. I kind of wish they had broken up the casino midbosses into full size bosses and made the whole casino its own world? Some of them had potential to be really cool full boss fights. I saw the cigar in lots of promos and I was actually a little disappointed that he was just a fairly easy midboss.

I think some of the most fun animation in the game are the boss deaths

I love seeing what bosses other people found really hard and what they found easy compared to me. I see a lot of people say the dragon and the robot. I didn't find the dragon all that hard, and while the robot was hard, it never felt TOO hard and like I was just loving it up. I also loved the final phase of the robot, it was very tense and fun and the boss itself at that point reminded me of Megaman.

Jinn is the easiest of the three I thought, the pillar phase is easy, first phase is luck of the draw (cats are hardest i thought), the other phases aren't horrible either, there's just a lot to remember and it's a long fight. Baroness requires more reflexes in the final phase and clown isn't too bad up to the last phase where i just unload my super onto him and gun him down before I can get hit too often.

I found the dragon's phase with the marching flames really hard until the lobber let me stand on the top row of clouds. Then I had enough time to react to them instead of hearing the sound and panic-jumping and I could win.
