let's all have a good season welcoming laugh at the Detroit Red Wings for being capped out (and over the cap before Franzen goes on LTIR) with the roster they have. this season it's going to look something like, what Tatar-Zetteberg-Nyquist Abdelkader-Larkin-Mantha Sheahan-Nielsen-Helm? Bertuzzi-Glendening-Booth? ???Dekeyser-Daley Kronwall-Green Ericsson-Jensen??? that's what a modern cap team looks like. good god.

I love all the sad sack think pieces from Detroit literally begging Yzerman to come back. Why the gently caress would any GM want to take over that garbage fire?

ThinkTank posted:Sven Baertschi - Bo Horvat - Brock Boeser this is horrible too but man, it just amplifies how bad Detroit is - this team has about 6 million dollars more in cap space than Detroit (pre-Franzen LTIRing because it makes the number better). even after LTIR, the Canucks will have about 2.2-2.3 million more in flexibility than the Red Wings. and you gotta squint to see it, but there's some small weak hopes in that Canucks lineup that just aren't even there for the Wings at all

Boston's likely roster/lines below. There are a few names in the top-6 that might seem like a surprise to people who don't follow the Bruins. Marchand-Bergeron-Bjork DeBrusk-Krejci-Pastrnak Kuraly-Spooner-Backes Beleskey-Nash-Acciari Extras will probably be Vatrano and Schaller. If Bjork or DeBrusk struggle as rookies, which is possible, they probably get shifted down and Backes/Vatrano slot in there. Schaller's a guy who will compete for ice time in the bottom 6. Chara-Carlo Miller-McAvoy Grzelcyk-McQuaid Postma Krug is on IR for now after fracturing his jaw in preseason. He'll end up anchoring the second pairing with McAvoy or Carlo depending on how they rearrange things when he's back. Rask Khudobin Subban has been great in preseason but should probably go back to Providence. Unfortunately he's not waivers exempt so there's a real fear that he gets claimed by someone.

Rangers lines at the moment: Kreider-Zibanejad-Zuccarello Nash-Chytil-Buchnevich Grabner-Hayes-Miller Vesey-Desharnais-Carey Fast (IR), Desjardins (terrible and should be released...doesn't have a contract yet) McDonagh-Shattenkirk Skjei-Smith Staal-DeAngelo Holden, Kampfer Big question is whether Chytil sticks over 9 games and if not, how the lines will be configured. Fast will also be back around the end of those 9 games so how does that affect things, etc. Rangers have been talking like DeAngelo will start the season in the lineup but we'll see, wouldn't put it past the coaches to start Staal-Holden and it be a disaster as usual

Leafs: Hyman-Matthews-Nylander Marleau-Kadri-Komarov JVR-Bozak-Marner Martin-Moore/Fehr-Brown Gardiner-Zaitsev Rielly-Hainsey Borgman/Rosen-Carrick Andersen McElhinney Defence still questionable, and I'd love to see some of those forward spots freed up for some guys that are off to the Marlies, but there are worse problems to have. Biggest drain on this team as it currently stands is probably gonna be McBackup. Sparks and Rychel are the only notables on waivers and honestly neither are any good so power to them if they get picked up. Liljegren's probably going to the Marlies and I'd put the edge to Borgman being in the same boat.

Here are the Oilers potential lines: Maroon - McDavid - Yamamoto Lucic - Draisaitl - Caggiula Jokinen - Nuge - Strome Khaira - Letestu - Kassian Pakarinen, Slepyshev Klefbom - Larsson Russell - Benning Nurse - Gryba Auvitu, Sekera (IR) Talbot Brossoit Defensive pairings are pretty well set until Sekera comes back. I hope Russell gets injured so that way Auvitu can get into the line-up in his place. Meanwhile, forward lines have been a mess this entire pre-season, so I'm not 100% sure about what the lines will actually look like. I'm guessing Yamamoto will just get a 9 game tryout before getting sent down to the WHL and having Puljujarvi recalled, but who actually knows as this point.

I don't get what the Red Wings did this offseason. They won 33 games last year and they didn't really *do* anything this offseason, except not signing AA. At least the Canucks made a bunch of savvy UFA signings.
