So is Booth on waivers or did he actually get signed? Do I even actually care? And I don't get Pedan over Biega on waivers. Biega is a beer league pylon. The way he misread the play on that one Draisatl goal last game was pretty spectacularly bad, yet he, a yutz at 29 makes the team over a 24-year old who played not bad - at least better than "the Bulldog"

Russell - Benning

Auvitu, Sekera (IR)

Defensive pairings are pretty well set until Sekera comes back. I hope Russell gets injured so that way Auvitu can get into the line-up in his place. Meanwhile, forward lines have been a mess this entire pre-season, so I'm not 100% sure about what the lines will actually look like.

I'm guessing Yamamoto will just get a 9 game tryout before getting sent down to the WHL and having Puljujarvi recalled, but who actually knows as this point.

Honestly, Biega and Pedan are so interchangeable that I don't care in the slightest. Neither is an NHLer on a team even 10% better than the Canucks and aren't in the franchise's long term plans. 24 isn't young as far as hockey players are concerned, so might as go with the devil you know in Biega.

A few posts before this I speculated regarding the actions he made as a result of being braindead. But let's speculate about whether someone who is literally braindead could do a better job than Ken Holland!

Ken Holland: Signed Trevor Daley to a three-year contract.
Braindead zombie: Did not sign Trevor Daley.
Winner: Braindead zombie

Ken Holland: Signed AHL enforcer Luke Witkowski to a two-year contract after he beat up Anthony Mantha.
Braindead zombie: Did not sign Luke Witkowski
Winner: Braindead zombie

Ken Holland: Didn't sign AA due to metaphorical lack of brain function
Braindead zombie: Didn't sign AA due to literal lack of brain function

Sens roster is looking pretty terrible:

Ryan-Brassard-Stone
Smith-Turris-Hoffman
Thompson-Pageau-Pyatt
Dzingel-Brown-Burrows

Oduya-Ceci
Phaneuf-Claesson
Borowiecki-Wideman

Anderson
Condon

The 3rd line is a dogs breakfast, but other than that the forwards aren't bad. They easily could've picked up 2 guys better than Pyatt and Thompson on waivers, but they're on the team to satisfy Boucher's love for terrible grinders.

Defense is an absolute garbage fire without Karlsson. It'll also be bad when he's back, but hoo boy look at them now.

The only thing standing between this team and Dahlin is Craig Anderson.

It's an auction league so there's a draft where everyone bids on players and you have a certain budget for players. Also you get a few keepers every year which are basically dudes you can keep for a certain period of time without having to let them go back into the draft pool, but every year you keep a guy he becomes 20% more expensive than the last season you had him.

It's pretty cool and good

I'm going to pretend you've never played any kind of fantasy hockey so sorry in advance if you already know how it works to some degree.

Everyone drafts a team. In this league each team has slots for two centers, two left wings, two right wings, five defensemen, and two goalies. There are also two generic slots that you can put any forward into (so two extra centers for example) and one extra Utility slot that you can put any forward or defenseman in. You also get two bench slots. There are a bunch of different stats that get scored like goals, assists, face offs won, hits, shut outs, etc., and basically your players need to have more goals or hits or whatever than whoever you're playing to win that category for the week. Whoever wins the most categories wins that week.

Every team in the league has a $500 budget to spend on players and the draft is an auction that you spend the money in. In an auction draft people take turns nominating a player for everyone to bid on. So theoretically you can blow out your budget on 3 or 4 players and they'll all be really good, but the rest of your roster might be lovely. It won't let you spend the entire budget on a single player though since you need to have a full roster.

A keeper league means that you're allowed to keep some players every year which can be good because if you got someone for a good deal last year you can keep him for a lot cheaper than if he were to go back to auction. For example, I got David Pastrnak in the draft last year for $4, and I'm going to keep him this year and next year. He becomes 20% more expensive every year. Our league only lets you keep players for up to three years total, including the year they were drafted, before they have to go back into the auction pool.

It seems likely at this point that this is the Pens roster going into the season:

Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary
Rust-Malkin-Kessel
Hagelin-McKegg-Hornqvist
Wilson-Rowney-Reaves

Archibald, Kuhnhackl

Dumoulin-Letang
Maatta-Schultz
Hunwick-Cole

Pouliot, Ruhwedel

Murray
Niemi

Probably one of those forwards will be waived/traded unless they work something out with Pouliot in the last few days. DP can't be exposed to waivers as someone would certainly claim him so I imagine they'll hold onto him for now and carry 8 d to start the season.
