qirex posted:e: my idea is twitter but with /topic tags so you could follow only like @qirex/rapconcerts or @qirex/boringtechopinions without having to see the rest of my not-tweets MIT's Zephyr has this in the late 1980s you and your friends would subscribe to a class (which was like a chat room) and your messages could be sent to specific (class,instance) tuples that could be treated like topics, filtered, and so on since messages were always sent to a <class,instance,recipient> tuple, private messages were just messages to <message,personal,user@REALM> while public messages were usually sent to recipient * and of course it was easy to rig up automated systems to interact with and be controlled by it too most clients also supported rendering basic bold/italic/underline formatting with simple Scribe-style markup
