I've done it with just alternating L1 and R1 (so you can save some button presses by skipping L2/R2) and swearing like a madman (this is mandatory)

Another thing about ARC builds is that you can use your most damaging hunter tool after parrying an enemy without risks. Augur will also deal increased damage and knock down a lot of enemies so don't sleep on that.

Farewell, good Hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

I finished it! What a grand adventure, that honestly before I bought a ps4 I never thought I’d ever get to experience. I’m so glad I did! My favorite parts of it were the environments, lore, combat, and just how powerful you are by the end. A few of the bosses I kinda hated (or at least found super dumb and annoying) but I enjoyed most of them. Gehrman was a really good fight. Not hard if you utilize all you’ve learned, medium easy to parry, and totally full of unique attacks. It took me twice but holy poo poo am I glad I died the first time. I checked an ending guide just after the first death to make sure I knew what to do with the umbilical cords, and I hadn’t consumed them yet! That was a near miss right there. I’m glad I got that ending, it seemed.. right. I’m the new great one and can be good and do right to the people.

The things that didn’t work for me, I still wish they would’ve been more upfront about some of the story. It would’ve been nice to get maybe 1/5 of a death stranding cutscene info dump near the end or something. Like, the old hunter dlc, poo poo the ending was just.. there. I guess I get it but it seemed totally nonexistent. I also didn’t think it was cool that you could easily miss half the game if you weren’t paying attention. Building Cainhurst and alfred’s quest just to make it so missable seems dumb and bad to me.

I got used to the graphics, but man would this be good with an hdr and 4k remaster. The aliasing seemed better in the dlc for some reason but it’s pretty bad in the main game.

Time for sushi ghost. I imagine parrying will be a joke now.

Also Mortal Shell comes out the 18th and that’s a definite buy. Basically dark souls 4.

This is very much a feature, not a bug, in my estimation.

There's something about Bloodborne (and From's Soulsborne games in general) that I've especially come to appreciate since I started working in game development. On most teams, proposing something like Cainhurst or the Painted World in DS1 - entire areas loaded with unique assets that can only be found blind through careful observation and wild experimentation - would get you laughed out of the room. From shows a tremendous degree of faith in the audience to explore, form a community, and share information with each other, schoolyard Mew Truck rumor-style. It's a deliberate choice supported by a lot of their design decisions (most notably the in-game notes system and focus on replayability), and the payoff is much sweeter when it's cool, meaningful content.

I would feel differently if the game were an incomplete experience without Cainhurst, Upper Cathedral Ward, etc., but it isn't, in my opinion.

The thing about the Hunter’s Nightmare is that it’s supplemental. It’s not required for the actual story of Bloodborne, it just answers some lingering questions. It explains the deal with the doll and Gehrman (he loved his apprentice Maria and couldn’t handle her leaving); why Gehrman has nightmares (he relives his own attack on the Fishing Hamlet from the perspective and emptions of the Child/Orphan of Kos); lets us see what became of Laurence and Ludwig (two pillars of the Healing Church who basically don’t exist in the main game except lore); and lastly gives us knowledge about Kos and how Byrgenwerth got the cord for Rom’s ascension.

I think it’s just that Rom is a “species” of Great One? The one at Byrgenwerth is actually one of Willem’s female students named Rom.

Think of how there are so many Amygdala, including some dead ones in the Hunter’s Nightmare.

My actual weird theory is that Rom is the caterpillar to Ebrieatas butterfly. So the corpse in Ebrieatas boss room is actually her old body from before she underwent a secondary metamorphosis.

There is only one Living Flower in the game minus the Chalices and its in Byrgenwerth which means it HAS to have come from the Pthumerian Cities which were first discovered by Byrgenwerth.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. What happened to you at the start was similar to what happened to me with Dark Souls 1 years ago. I bounced off hard twice because getting fully invested in FROM's design. By the time I got Bloodborne I beat DS1, 2 and 3 (by december '16) and watched some streamers play, but always stopped watching after Central Yharnam because in my heart I needed to experience it as blind as I could. I got a PS4 exclusively to play Bloodborne and ended discovering great games but Bloodborne will always be my system seller and my first platinum. Right now I'm avoiding new playthroughs because I have a huge backlog of good games but I must hoont again soon. Bloodborne is basically on my top three games of all time (Unreal, Bloodborne, The Witcher 3).

The game outright calls Rom a Great One either directly or through achievements. She’s just not a very Great Great One. Considering we know they used a Cord to help her ascend she might even be the most successful attempt in all of Yharnam when the game starts.
