Most recent update: Ashton V: No safety in numbers Time to re-visit Spook-tober! So i've picked up The Letter - A Horror Visual Novel from Steam. It's supposed to be pretty good for its genre! Let's see what Wikipedia says. Wikipedia posted:The Letter received almost uniformly negative reviews from critics. As of November 2014, the game holds an aggregate 12.52% on GameRankings, and 14 out of 100 on Metacritic, where it also ranks as the fifth worst-reviewed game ever released, as well as the number-one worst-reviewed adventure game. Both of the aggregate scores are based upon four reviews. Criticisms focused on the lack or the poor quality of gameplay, presentation, production values, plot, and length. Some reviewers asked why Nintendo approved it on the eShop at all, and others stated that they did not think it was really a game. So, this is what happens when you title your game something as generic as "The Letter" - false positives. This game only recently came out and has nothing in common with the 2014 WiiU game of the same name. Maybe this is why the devs always specify "A Horror Visual Novel" when they name the title. Table of contents Character profiles and timeline For real now: What is this game? The game was released on the 24th of July, 2017 on Steam after a successful kickstarter by a development team from the Philippines. Yeah, despite what it might look like, this game is not from Japan. I had to look this up, because i had no idea this game was a thing until someone in the Steam thread on the SA forums mentioned it as a good example of a VN, together with names like Zero Escape and Ace Attorney. It caught my interest then. You said Visual Novel? Isn't that those anime dating smut games? Some of them are, i guess, but i don't touch those. I tend to keep to the Thriller and Horror genre in interactive fiction, since those often offer you the opportunity to "get rid" of characters you don't like by directing them into obvious danger. This makes it sound like i play a lot of these, but honestly, this is the first VN outside of Ace Attorney and 999 that i've ever played. Also, even NieR: Automata had VN elements So there's no porn in this, right? Well... There's like two pictures of sex scenes, and like two more that are kinda risque. The LP has already passed the sex scenes without encountering them, since they're easily avoidable, and not really titillating either. In case anything risque happens, i'm tagging these updates with warnings. And anway, what's a summer horror flick without some shagging? No one's going to ask for a gore warning, right? Does this take place in a Japanese high school again? No! It takes place in and around a fictional mid-sized city in England, named Luxbourne. And aside from one grade-schooler that appears, the youngest person we encounter in this game is 26 years old! It's all (irresponsible) adults, all the time! This also means you'll be subjected to funny mangled European accents, including but not limited to Irish, Scottish and German. So what's supposed to be so good about this one? The Steam page will show you reviews praising how scary this game is. This is kind of a trap. As far as i can tell, the game doesn't really know what it wants to be, despite its insistence on being a horror novel. The horror elements sometimes seem like an afterthought sprinkled in in irregular intervals, as if to keep you from being bored with the unfolding tales of unrequited romance, marriage drama, british high-society parties and murder mysteries. The real strength lies in its reactivity to the player's choices, though. Even though the choices in the game are binary, and not all of them are super important, the game is long enough that by the end, the game keeps track of and reacts to quite a lot. So much that the dynamically built route flowchart for the last route can bring most PCs to their knees, freezing even high-end machines for a couple seconds. The game has been patched once or twice to make it load more efficiently, but it's still quite a monster. The game goes from building ~260 individual nodes in Route 1 to building over 5000 in the last one. There's like 90 different "Where are they now" ending epilogues possible depending on the choices you make throughout the game. ... So how's the writing? Eclectic. It does a decent job of making the various POV characters seem different, so much that i sometimes suspect the different routes might have been written by different people. In one route, the internal monologue is interesing and insightful, and in the next it makes you either want to fall asleep or strangle the character. YMMV though. Spoiler policy? Due to the nature of the game, please don't post spoilers for things we have not already passed in the LP. Since there's so many branches and paths not taken in this LP, it's okay to discuss what would have happened at this point if we had taken choice X earlier in the game, but please don't discuss or even hint at previous choices' impact on future things. This can become very difficult since we're gonna see the same week 7 times at various points and it might be hard to remember what has happened and what hasn't, so when in doubt, don't. Okay, I'm still here. Let's get started then. Sure thing. Have a prologue, straight from the game. Music: Ambience Rain The Ermengarde Mansion. It was built for Lord William and Lady Elizabeth Ermengarde of Luxbourne, humble ambassadors of peace and beloved by their people. Both were well-known for their compassion and generosity, never failing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Under their influence and wealth, what was once a small, sleepy village grew to a prosperous and bustling town. However, the seasons of joy eventually ended when the good nobles perished at the hands of a great plague. Their riches and legacy were henceforth passed on to their only child, Lady Charlotte Ermengarde. … The mansion has stood since the 1620s—a witness to a very long history of joy and pain. After Lady Charlotte committed suicide, the great house was eventually left uninhabited. (*thunder strikes*) And that is when it began. Surrounding villagers spoke of seeing and hearing unearthly things; of cries and howls that filled the nights and hearsay of a mysterious woman roaming the hollowed halls aimlessly. People who dared enter its walls were simply never heard from again. Even after four hundred years, these stories remain, much like the house itself. Whispers about the once great house, its legend and its curse, still fall upon the villagers' ears. In spite of this, the current owners are convinced that these stories are nothing more than a hoax. With little regard for the truth, they had Briar Realty Corporation place the property back on sale. Like Pandora's box, the secrets that lie inside await to be discovered by brave souls. No matter what happens, take care not to be consumed by the curse. … Good luck. HenryEx fucked around with this message at 21:15 on Jan 16, 2018 |

PROFILES Maria Isabella Grace Cruz Santos Birthdate: May 28, Gemini; 26 Years Old Height: 5'2'' (158 cm) Occupation: Estate Agent Nationality: Filipino Religion: Roman Catholic Education: Fine Arts Undergraduate Likes: cinnamon rolls, dogs, food, police procedural dramas & teleseryes, comedies, karaoke She is the third child among seven, daughter of a laundrywoman and a jeepney driver. She went to a public school and was an average student, but took to art easily. Eventually, she pursued a degree in Fine Arts, as encouraged by her father. However, when the man was diagnosed with a terminal illness, she had to stop studying to make money. It was Isabella's aunt who helped her get work overseas in order to earn more money than any local job could get her. Rose Cooper became her mentor as soon as she started as an agent at BRC. It’s been five years since she met her neighbour, Rebecca. She met Ashton during an unfortunate incident involving her first sale at Devlin Court, and later, Zachary through him. Hannah Wright Née Evans Birthdate: April 30, Taurus; 31 Years Old Height: 5'7” (170 cm) Occupation: Heiress (former Finance Manager) Nationality: British Religion: Anglican Education: Master's in Business Administration, Major in Accounting Likes: bouillabaisse, dogs, fashion, parties & dancing, the beach, children, iconic women, charity, math Of the Luxbourne upper classes, Hannah is used to living a life of luxury. Absent parents made her crave for attention, though; something she gained from her private tutors and nannies instead. It was never enough, however. She studied hard in order to make her parents proud, going into business so that she could work alongside them. The challenge in her otherwise privileged life was certainly a thrill for her, at the very least. She had many suitors, dating different men and women. But it was through work that she met Luke. It was love at first sight for her. Upon her parents’ death, Luke proposed to her. That was the move that led to the merging of Wright Enterprise and Evans Incorporated and her subsequent retirement. Their seven-year marriage is strained, but Hannah tries her best to make it work. Zachary "Zach" Steele Birthdate: March 20, Pisces; 31 Years Old Height: 6'0” (183 cm) Occupation: Freelance Photographer Nationality: American Religion: Agnostic Education: Diploma in Digital Film Likes: pie, photography and filmography, documentaries, cooking, acoustic guitar, video games Before his parents' death, he lived in New Jersey where his family owned a diner and bakery. He and his older sister were orphaned due to a hate crime, and they were forced to move to England where their grandparents lived. He had loved cooking and helping out with their old diner, but grew lazy and disinterested after the incident. It did not help that he was one of the few blacks in a predominantly white community at the time. His passion for the visual arts was sparked when he found old polaroids and home movies of his parents. Freelancing helped pay his rent, but the man had long set his sights on the indie film scene. It was during the creation of his first documentary that a robbery occurred and Ashton was there to investigate. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time led to Zachary being placed as a suspect, but the rookie detective helped him clear his name. Marianne McCollough Birthdate: July 14, Cancer; 30 Years Old Height: 5'11” (180 cm) Occupation: Interior Designer (former Architect) Nationality: Irish Religion: Roman Catholic Education: Bachelor of Arts in Architecture Likes: chocolate, cats, classical arts, country music, karaoke, board games, video games, anime and other obscure pop culture items, yoga Left in a dumpster as a baby, she was found by a pedlar and spent most of her childhood roaming the countryside in a beat-up van. Her father taught her how to read, write, and pray. Though an unconventional life, it was all she knew. Child Welfare & Protection eventually caught on and required that she have a proper education. She was provided a scholarship at St. Samthann School for Young Ladies and was bullied for being a charity kid. Marianne only had one friend and was mostly focused on her studies, intent on graduating and returning to her father. A shame that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's soon after. Her work as an architect in Ireland lasted until the Irish economic crisis. She moved to England, and after some time, Luxbourne in search of better career opportunities. Rebecca Gales Birthdate: April 1, Aries; 29 Years Old Height: 5'5” (165 cm) Occupation: History Teacher Nationality: Scottish Religion: Atheist (raised Kirk) Education: Master's Degree in Education, Major in European History Likes: stovies, reading in the library, going to the gym, cycling & jogging, lacrosse, lesson plans Although of Scottish descent, she grew up in Luxbourne and even went to school in St. Goretti. Her parents were professors of European History & South East Asian History at Luxbourne University. They were often busy and that forced Rebecca to be independent early on. Surrounded by books and instilled with a love for learning, she was a star pupil and was often called a teacher's pet for it. Her passion for academics leading to a career in the industry was to be expected of her. She came out of her shell in her high school years and started becoming the spitfire she is now. Before then, Ashton was her only friend, though she found him aggravating at first. Independent and used to taking care of others, it was no surprise when she helped out the young foreigner who moves in next door. Ashton "Ash" Frey Birthdate: December 26, Capricorn; 29 Years Old Height: 5'5” (164 cm) Occupation: Detective Inspector Nationality: American-Japanese Religion: Christian (Non-Practicing) Education: Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Science Likes: taiyaki ice cream, Shirley, Ophelia, old timey action movies and thrillers, kart racing, jazz and swing, Sherlock Holmes, justice There was little love between his parents, and though he grew up privileged, he found little joy in student life. He saw the standard testing system as a chore and considers his popularity among his peers to be an annoyance. Rebecca was the only one he considered a friend in St. Goretti, and he was no better when he went into university. If anything, his indifferent outlook got worst with his parents’ divorce. He initially took Law but was quickly disillusioned by how heavy handed and abused the system was. Forensic Science, on the other hand, became fascinating for him. He served a brief time as a police officer before he applied to join Luxbourne’s Criminal Investigation Department. Early on, he was too eager to deal out justice, but his numerous years in service became quite the learning experience for him. Now, as a detective inspector, he's been assigned to his biggest case yet. TIMELINE Make sure you are caught up with the newest update, otherwise you will probably find SPOILERS here! October 17 - Monday The day of the Wrights's party at their penthouse. Hannah I Hannah Wright threw a party in their penthouse at the Cache. The city’s most powerful were seen, including Chief Inspector Harvey Lee of the Luxbourne Police Department. From him, the socialite heard of the Ermengarde Mansion’s upcoming open house and of the interior designer, Marianne McCollough. October 18 - Tuesday Marianne goes on her first bender. Marianne I An email from the Wrights came, requesting Marianne McCollough’s expertise for their home. What seemed like an innocent commission made a different impact on the famous designer after seeing a picture of the Wright missus… Marianne I Marianne went to The Crawl Bar (also called ‘The Galway Shawl’ by its patrons) for a night out with her close friends, Kam and Haruna. When they left, Marianne was seen with a stranger whom she only referred to as ‘Whiskey’; in turn, she was called ‘Mint’. Marianne II Marianne and Whiskey went back to her condo after having one too many drinks. However, Marianne changed her mind about the one-night stand and ended up sharing tea with him instead. The next morning, the stranger left nothing but a note and a bottle of painkillers. October 21 - Friday The day of the Open House at Ermengarde mansion. Isabella I Before going to the Ermengarde Mansion, Isabella Santos dropped by St. Goretti High School to check on Rebecca Gales. The former reminded the latter to take her flu medicine before leaving. On the way to the mansion, Isabella received a phone call from Ashton Frey, reminding her of Zachary Steele’s movie premier that night. Isabella III While looking for her missing co-agent, Isabella Santos found a mysterious letter in the Ermengarde Mansion’s attic. Driven to fear by what she read inside, thinking it’s the place’s curse at work, she hurried to leave the place, only to meet– Isabella IV Rose Cooper, along with a woman who introduced herself as Marianne McCollough, found Isabella Santos lying unconscious in the mansion’s foyer before the open house’s start. Unable to recall what happened prior, Isabella insisted on working, despite her co-agent’s worries about her well-being… Isabella IV Today marked the open house of the infamous Ermengarde Mansion. Opened to the public for the first time in years, Luxbourne’s most esteemed and prominent personalities gathered to catch a glimpse of the 17th-century property, including Luxbourne’s most well-known couple, Luke and Hannah Wright. Rebecca I Rebecca Gales received a phone call from Rose Cooper after class, asking her to pick-up Isabella Santos from the Ermengarde Mansion. On her way out of school, an excited Kylie Suarez stops her favorite teacher from leaving. Rebecca II While waiting at the mansion, Rebecca overheard a brief conversation between the Wright Couple, their interior designer, and estate agent, Rose Cooper. It was discovered afterwards that Isabella had already left a few hours ago. Hannah III During the open house, Hannah pressured the estate agents to sell her the mansion. The Wrights also met their interior designer. But displeased with her husband’s flirtatious attitude, a disagreement brewed during the ride home. Inevitably, they ended up sleeping in different bedrooms that night. Isabella VII Luxbourne Independent Film and Theatre Festival celebrated its 9th year discovering new creative talents in the film industry. Included in the few showcased this year was Zachary Steele’s, “Bleu Foncé: Dark Times of the Black British”. Isabella Santos, Ashton Frey, and Rebecca Gales were also seen amongst the crowd for its premier. Rebecca III After watching Blue Foncé, Isabella tried making small talk with Rebecca, but the latter was in a prickly mood and was not interested. On their way home, Rebecca glimpsed something suspicious sitting at the back seat of her car... October 22 - Saturday The mansion gets sold to the Wrights. Isabella VII Isabella received an unexpected call from her family back in the Philippines. An emotional moment, her mother informed her of her father’s deteriorating condition despite treatments. Nonetheless, the young woman assured her and continued to work hard to be able to support all of them. Marianne II Marianne befriended Rebecca Gales during a visit to the library. Marianne received a call from Rose Cooper afterwards, informing her that the Ermengarde mansion’s floor plans were ready for pick-up at their office. Isabella IX A day after the open house, the Wrights were seen securing the mansion’s purchase at Briar Realty’s Luxbourne Office. Parties involved in the transaction were surprised at how fast it went, but agreed it was to be expected when dealing with influential people like the Wrights. Happy over the sale, Isabella Santos treated her friends to lunch. Isabella IX After a pleasant lunch with Zachary Steele and Rebecca Gales, Isabella Santos received an urgent phone call from Rose Cooper, asking her to meet with the Wrights’ interior designer. Left with no choice, she hurried back to BRC. But on her way, on one of the shops she passed by, a familiar smile greeted her… Marianne III Marianne visited BRC to pick up the floors plans. She was assisted by Isabella Santos, and the two shared a brief talk about art, which ended with Marianne leaving a piece of advice to Isabella. Isabella IX Zachary Steele reminded Isabella Santos of the Ermengarde Mansion’s blessing tomorrow. They will be accompanied by Father Norman, a well-known priest in the Anglican and Christian communities. He is described to be a warm and approachable person, especially by the youths. October 23 - Sunday A blessing and a casualty. Isabella X Father Norman, Zachary Steele and Isabella Santos went to the Ermengarde Mansion for the blessing. There, they encountered the mansion’s new owners, the Wrights. After the blessing, Zachary and Isabella were seen sharing a box of sweet cinnamon rolls at the park. Isabella XI While looking after a lost cat, Isabella Santos met the interior designer, Marianne McCollough by chance. She also happened to be the cat’s owner. The two were seen having small talk before Isabella abruptly left. Isabella XI News broke of Rose Cooper being found dead in her flat the evening before. The authorities classified the crime as homicide, possibly linked to the notorious Anslem Butcher: A mysterious serial killer who had committed brutal murders over the years and left their bodies with his signature phrase, “HELP ME”. October 24 - Monday The mansion's first inspection before the Wrights can move in. Marianne III Marianne visited the Wrights’ penthouse to discuss work with the couple. While waiting for them, Marianne decided to investigate a violent crash she heard. In the hallway, there was something odd… Marianne IV A very spooked Marianne accidentally bumped into Luke Wright. Although things were awkward between the two, Marianne insisted they keep things professional and simply forget about what happened nights ago. Marianne V The mansion’s arrangements were discussed over breakfast. During the meeting, the Wright couple had an argument about the mansion's arrangements. In the end, they decided a visit will settle it. Marianne VI Marianne examined the first floor upon arrival at the mansion. After a small talk with Hannah Wright, Marianne headed for the study. There she saw a ghost from her past reflected in the mirror… Despite that, she gave her word that she would see through the project until the end. Isabella XII Isabella Santos drowned herself with work the whole day to forget about the devastating news of her mentor’s death. However, she ended up stumbling upon the mysterious disappearances of her other colleagues, and just when she realized something important… October 25 - Tuesday The day after Isabella's brush with death in the office. Zachary I A frightened Isabella Santos knocked at Zachary Steele’s apartment in the middle of the night. Shaken, she refused to say what happened. Zachary let her stay, regardless. Rebecca III Rebecca Gales received a housewarming invitation addressed to her parents that morning. After informing them about it, she checked Isabella’s apartment and was shocked to find that she hadn’t come home last night. Rebecca IV Worried about her friend’s behavior, Rebecca informed Ashton about Isabella’s disappearance. It turned out that she spent the night at Zachary’s, and Ashton offered to pick her up. Rebecca went to school after and had a strange encounter in the hallway, with one of the student lockers… Zachary I Come morning, Zachary received a phone call from Ashton, who is looking for Isabella. Zachary informed him that she stayed over and of the circumstances. Before ending the call, Ashton offered to pick her up. Zachary II Isabella saw Zachary taking an unknown medicine, and concerned, asked what it is for. He admitted he’s suffering from a trauma, ever since his parents were killed in a hate crime. Isabella could only offer him a comforting hug. To lighten the mood, the two decided to cook breakfast afterwards. Zachary III Ashton arrived to fetch Isabella hours later, but she didn’t want to leave after all the food they prepared. In the end, Ashton acquiesced and stayed. The Wrights and Zach’s upcoming gig were the few topics touched during their talk over breakfast. Rebecca V While lining up to buy dinner, Rebecca saw Kylie Suarez with a suspicious man. Assuming it was a kidnapping, Rebecca elected to take the matters in her own hands, only to find out that the man was the girl’s godfather, Luke Wright. An embarrassed Rebecca apologized afterwards. Rebecca VI Rebecca found Isabella going through several papers outside their apartment. When the former asked why she didn’t come home the other night, the latter confessed that she saw the ghost once again. Before leaving, Isabella assured her friend that she’d find a way out of this mess. October 26 - Wednesday The Wrights move into their new home, and many people had too much to drink. Hannah IV The Wright couple moved to their newly-bought mansion today and was already preparing for a housewarming party. Hannah and Marianne were seen having breakfast together, with the former complaining and accidentally divulging too much details about her marital problems. Hannah V Hannah met Zachary Steele, a freelance photographer from Luxury Living, an interior design magazine. Zachary was tasked to interview Hannah and to take pictures of the mansion and its new owners. What should’ve been a professional meeting ended up being friendly and perhaps too personal… Marianne VIII To keep her mind off of things that haunted her, Marianne McCollough focused on assisting the Wrights during their move-in. Later that afternoon, she was seen chatting with Luke Wright, who then demanded she and the rest of her crew take an early leave. Marianne VIII The interior designer once again drank her frustrations away at The Crawl Bar. Albeit heavily intoxicated, she was seen chatting with Ashton Frey, a detective inspector working for the LPD, about Luke Wright. Before abruptly leaving, the detective left her his calling card. Hannah V During supper, Hannah found Luke drinking absinthe and this caused an argument. While Hannah was angered by her husband’s drinking problem, Luke was suspicious of his wife’s activities, having not seen her the whole afternoon despite finishing Luxury Living’s interview early. Then, there was this crying woman... October 27 - Thursday Zach investigates some weird photos from the day before. Zachary III Some of Hannah’s shots from the photoshoot the day before came out distorted after Zachary developed them. He would’ve almost dismissed it as human error if he hadn’t remembered a chilling memory from yesterday’s shoot… Rebecca VII Luke was seen attending Career Day at St. Goretti High School for his goddaughter, where he met Rebecca again. Minutes later, a sobbing Kylie, interrupted their conversation to report a friend crying in the little girls’ room… Zachary V Disturbed, Zachary decided to show the photographs to Ashton. During lunch at the coffeehouse, they briefly discussed Zach’s sister, before the topic veered on the photos. Refusing to believe his friend, Ashton advised him to talk to Andrew instead. Zachary V Zachary met with Professor Andrew Clark at the library. The professor shared a few of his favorite stories about the city, including a friend’s research about its urban legends. When Zach showed Hannah’s distorted photos, the professor only warned him not to be reckless... and that some people deserve what's coming for them. Rebecca VII After the strange encounter at the little girls’ room, Rebecca tried to remain composed throughout her day. As her classes ended, she received a phone call from Marianne McCollough, who asked unusual things about the Ermengarde Mansion. Rebecca IX Luke and Kylie invited Rebecca for dinner as she was about to leave. Despite receiving a text message from Ashton, Rebecca agreed and the three spent the evening at a nearby coffeehouse. Upon returning to her flat, she found a note that Ashton left her. October 28 - Friday The day of the housewarming party at Ermengarde mansion. Rebecca X Isabella and Ashton arrived at Salemwell, having an argument about the missing BRC employees’ investigation. Annoyed by the noise, Rebecca interfered and, in the end, asked Ashton to keep an open mind. Hannah VII Hannah and Marianne were seen discussing the mansion’s finishing touches before the housewarming party. On a whim, Hannah asked for Marianne’s opinion about a certain couple having marital problems. It leaves the former with something to think about, after the latter excused herself from attending the party. Marianne IX Desperate to deal with her painful past, Marianne McCollough excused herself from attending the housewarming party, to search for Amy Lorraine within the mansion. Seeing her ghost in the wine cellar, however, a realization hit her and she finally let go… Marianne IX While trying to escape the phantom disguising as her friend, Marianne discovered an underground prison hidden in the deepest corners of the mansion. Now trapped in one of its cells, she found a recording left behind by some of the mansion’s victims… Hannah VII The Wright Mansion officially opened its doors with a grand housewarming feast. Zachary Steele, Ashton Frey and Rebecca Gales were seen attending. However, what was supposed to be a day of merriment turned sour when Roshelle Lee, the Chief Inspector’s wife, accused Luke Wright of fathering her unborn baby. Hannah IX In the aftermath of Roshelle’s accusations, a devastated Hannah was seen exiting the ballroom with Rebecca Gales and Zachary Steele. Hannah was left in the care of the man, when Rebecca had to go back to the party in search of Ashton. Now alone, the two had a talk, and both were smiling by the end of it. Rebecca XI As she was about to leave the party, Rebecca caught sight of a sulking Luke. She reminded him that brooding wouldn’t fix anything, and that he should be with his wife instead. Before leaving the embarrassed man, Rebecca caught glimpse of a shadow standing behind him… Rebecca XI Rebecca found Ashton waiting for her upon exiting the mansion. Irked because he was nowhere to be found during the entire party, she demanded to know what was going on. When he couldn’t give her an answer, Rebecca warned that they’d still talk about it some other time. October 29 - Saturday The day after drama; Hannah asks Luke for a break and encounters a nightmare in the kitchen. Zachary V Zachary’s nightmares became worse with each passing day. To help clear his mind of the unwanted images, Zach took a visit to the park. There, he met little Kylie Suarez, a precocious young girl studying at St. Goretti. Ashton I Ashton Frey received a phone call from the Chief of Luxbourne Police, first thing in the morning, informing him that he had been taken off the Luxbourne Firm Case. Although his protests fell on deaf ears, this sudden turn of events proved a hunch… Ashton II Rebecca confronted Ashton about what happened at the party the night before. Unable to tell her any details, the latter simply admitted it was confidential. Although Rebecca accepted this, her displeasure remained evident on her face. Ashton II Disturbed by the ruckus outside her unit, Isabella reprimanded Ashton for the noise. The latter noted her disheveled appearance and puffy eyes. Although, before he could ask about it, she brought up the issue with BRC again and insisted they both look into it that night. Ashton II While waiting for Isabella, Ashton called Professor Andrew Clark to inform him of his dismissal from the Luxbourne Firm Case. While Andrew assured him that it was fine, the detective promised to keep an eye on the case. However, a realization cut the conversation short… Zachary VI Upon returning to his apartment, Zachary was greeted by Ashton and Isabella. Now suspicious of what was happening, Ashton informed Zach that he and Isabella will try and get to the bottom of this. He also warned Zach to be careful. Hannah IX During breakfast, Hannah asked Luke for a break; she’d be moving back to their penthouse for a couple of days. Despite trying to remain aloof, her husband accused her of wanting a divorce. Hannah insisted she simply needed a break from him. Hannah IX Hannah called Rebecca Gales, hoping to catch up with an old friend. The talk got interrupted by a horrible clicking and the cry of a woman from the wine cellar… Ashton IV To confirm their suspicions, Isabella helped Ashton break into the Briar Realty Corporation’s Luxbourne office that night. There, the files they found revealed the real deal with the mansion’s sale that was unknown even to Isabella, and something possibly more terrible… Ashton V While gathering what they’ve found, Ashton accidentally brought up Isabella’s father, who had, apparently, passed away the day before. Suddenly, her reasons for trying to fix this mess became clear to him. In his attempt to comfort her, he ended up almost admitting something he’s not yet ready to put to words. Ashton V Ashton and Isabella beat a quick exit after getting what they needed, making sure not to leave evidence of their break-in. On their way out, however, the elevator malfunctioned and dropped them in the building’s basement parking instead, where a familiar face welcomed them. October 30 - Sunday Zach can't get in touch with his friends and goes looking for them. Zachary VII A terrified Zachary went looking for Ashton in the Ermengarde Mansion, but to no avail. He also tried to warn Luke Wright about the spirits supposedly living in the house, but was simply turned away. After hearing a crying woman, Zachary sneaked into the mansion, but was unfortunately spotted by the Wrights’ butler… Rebecca XI With the help of Professor Andrew Clark, Rebecca was able gain access to Luxbourne Library’s restricted section. In there, she discovered numerous accounts about the Ermengardes, all hidden from the public. Her research was interrupted, however, when— Rebecca XII Rebecca was seen limping out of the Luxbourne Public Library late Sunday morning. Checking her mobile, a lone voice mail from Ashton was in it, telling her they need to talk ASAP… October 31 - Monday Hallowe'en Zachary VII When Zachary finally regained consciousness after being knocked out, he found himself locked up in a precinct. A familiar woman gave him a little visit… HenryEx fucked around with this message at 21:14 on Jan 16, 2018 |

Gotta say "You're not my mom" simply because of the way they both rib eachother afterwards about it. One neat thing about the game is that when it came out, the route visualiser would sometimes crash people's computers because of how many variations and nodes exist and are fully tracked. That was what inspired my purchase of the game and I was not disappointed. It was also funny seeing people complain about names like "Detective Inspector" as if they were mistakes and knowing that no, that's just what we call them in the UK.

It's not impossible for someone to have gently caress-you-I'm-buying-this-house money. Certainly the kind of person who wants a mansion is likely to have it.

Glazius posted:It's not impossible for someone to have gently caress-you-I'm-buying-this-house money. Certainly the kind of person who wants a mansion is likely to have it. Not impossible, but surely the vendors agents would have been told if someone's bought it already, the day it's open to inspections. That being said, if someone DID buy it already, it means we're in for a real short game! our heroine gets a shitload of money to help pay for her dads treatment and decides to fly the gently caress out of england.

Hello, I'm an eccentric billionaire looking to buy a ghost house, let me just pay the descendants with my walkin' around money and then send an Irish giant to icily intimidate the estate agents, who I didn't bother telling about any of this Marianne's accent is extremely bad, it sounds like someone watched Snatch once and went yeah, I reckon I got this down

I've never met an Irish person in my life and even i could tell that her accent is wonky. I did mention that the voice acting in this game comes in varying degrees of quality. That said, aside from the accent Marianne's VA does a decent job, not great but not bad, although we haven't heard enough of her yet to really pass judgment on it. And yeah, definitely check out the part of the video where she introduces herself, if you haven't. It's... something.

Talk about a screw up. Well, if she shows it to rose she's only got to show it to one more person before she's free of the cursechitoryu12 posted:I can't read the name of the mansion without thinking of this: Good to know I'm not alone.

I'll say this for The Grudge - at least it realized that people who live in crappy apartments can have ghosts too.

To be fair, the ghost in The Grudge also did house calls and didn't just wait for people to stumble onto the crappy house's haunted closet.

HenryEx posted:Well, let's look at it this way: Isabella only needs to pass this letter to five other people to get off scot-free. This [/i]unfortunate accident here already brings us to three. Damage done, so to speak. We might as well pass it to Rose, too, to bring us one step closer to peaceful dreams. Although i am told that this is what even the British would call 'A Dick Move'. My instincts tell me that Rose will tear up the letter to try and show Isabella that there is no curse and Isabella will not be free, assuming we show Rose the letter.

I have a hard time distinguishing between bad accent or bad voicework when it comes to Hannah. One thing is for certain though, neither her nor Luke manage in any way to sound upperclass. I, ehr, think I'll stay away from the videos.

Think they're supposed to be nouveau riche, actual upper class english people tend not to have this kind of money Although if these dudes are from the Philippines I'm not sure how familiar they'd be with the intricacies of the british class system in all its horrors

I can only speak with authority on a certain accent we haven't encountered yet, but if they are all as dodgy as that one, i can definitely see why you'd not want to hear that regularly. I don't consume English entertainment media regularly, so i have no frame of reference against which to cringe! Lucky me.

I like this guy for the sole reason that his va isn't mangling a fake accent. Hell, he sounds better than the main character!

I don't blame Isabella for getting pissed, she's obviously freaked out and her friends are acting like she's a bratty kid that needs telling what to do. I mean, I don't expect them to jump instantly to believing her, but a 'hey, I can see this is really serious to you' would be nice.

The (LP) curse hit me too, it seems. All day yesterday my PC was so slow it took like a solid 2-3 minutes to do most of anything, even as simple as opening a new window. Might be time to reinstall my OS (ouch), or maybe my HDD is failing. Either way, i backed up all LP material to Google Drive just to be sure. I'll try to still get the next update out some time later today. HenryEx fucked around with this message at 15:42 on Oct 12, 2017 |
